There is no source-backed, universal “best” hero in Marvel Rivals Season 10.5. The Version 20261009 balance patch changed enough damage, survivability, mobility, recovery and Team-Up interactions that the strongest choice depends on your role, platform, mode, rank and practiced mechanics. Hulk, Hawkeye and Phoenix are sensible heroes to reassess first because their kits received notable changes, but that is a dated interpretation of the patch—not proof that any of them leads every category.
Season 10.5 went live on October 9, 2026, at 09:00 UTC. Use the method below to turn the October 6 balance notes into a personal shortlist without mistaking a paper buff, a Team-Up condition or an old statistic for current performance.
What the Season 10.5 patch actually tells you
NetEase Games’ Version 20261009 Balance Post, dated October 6, 2026, documents ability adjustments. It does not publish a post-patch win-rate table, pick-rate ranking or role-by-role tier order. That distinction matters: a projectile-speed increase can make a hero easier to use, while a damage increase may matter only when you already land a difficult ability. Neither change proves that the hero wins more games.
The official patch notes identify October 9 at 09:00 UTC as the Season 10.5 launch time. Treat statistics collected before that moment as pre-patch evidence. Treat an editorial tier list published on October 10 as an interpretation of newly changed kits, not as an official results sheet.

The three candidates most worth testing first
| Hero | Notable Season 10.5 change | What it may improve | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hulk | Banner-form Gamma Ray Gun projectile speed increased from 80 m/s to 120 m/s; Gamma Grenade energy gained when it hits Hulk increased from 50 to 100. | Projectile consistency and access to Hulk’s resource loop. | Some additional Wolverine benefits require that Team-Up. |
| Hawkeye | Piercing Arrow speed increased from 130–195 m/s to 140–210 m/s; Crescent Slash recovery was slightly reduced; the initial Hypersonic Arrow damage-field width increased from 3 m to 5 m. | Easier projectile timing, faster recovery and a more forgiving opening damage field. | Psylocke and Cloak & Dagger Team-Up changes are conditional. |
| Phoenix | Cosmic Flames damage rose from 60 to 65; Sparks direct damage rose from 40 to 45 and explosion damage from 15 to 20. | Damage output and detonation pressure. | Detonation no longer self-heals; the replacement is capped bonus health. |
A Tutorial.Games tier-list article dated October 10, 2026 names Hulk, Hawkeye and Phoenix as its clearest Season 10.5 winners. Use those names as a testing shortlist, not a settled statistical ranking.
How to choose a hero on the live patch
- Start with your role. Decide whether you are evaluating a Vanguard, Duelist or Strategist. A hero cannot be “best” for a role you do not want to play, and a strong Duelist does not answer a team’s need for a Vanguard or Strategist.
- Match the patch to your platform, mode and rank. Compare results only when those dimensions match your own play. A hero’s value can change between platforms, standard matches and special modes, or different skill brackets.
- Separate base-kit changes from Team-Up changes. Mark every adjustment as unconditional or partner-dependent. A benefit tied to Wolverine, Psylocke, Cloak & Dagger, Hela, Blade, Magneto, The Thing, Adam Warlock or another named ally may not exist in a match without that selection or teammate.
- Translate each number into a gameplay task. Projectile speed affects lead timing; recovery affects how quickly you can act again; field width affects area coverage; cooldown changes affect ability availability. Ask whether that task is where you lose fights.
- Check current data only after the patch settles. Look for a clearly dated Season 10.5 snapshot with role, platform, mode and rank filters. Compare pick rate and win rate together. A high win rate on a tiny sample can be less useful than a stable result across a large sample.
- Run a controlled personal trial. Play the same mode and role for several matches, record deaths caused by missed cooldowns or positioning, and compare the result with a familiar hero. Do not change several heroes and settings at once; you will not know which change affected your performance.
Hero-by-hero reading of the balance changes
Hulk: faster Banner projectiles and more Gamma Grenade energy
In Banner form, the Gamma Ray Gun projectile speed increased from 80 m/s to 120 m/s. The 50% increase can reduce the lead required against moving targets and may make ranged poke more reliable. The patch also doubled the Gamma Grenade energy Hulk gains when the grenade hits Hulk, from 50 to 100. That is a resource-generation change, so its value depends on how consistently you land the grenade and how well you convert the extra energy into the next transformation or ability sequence.
Hulk’s Wolverine Team-Up received attack-speed, movement-speed, Unstoppable-threshold and cooldown adjustments. Those are not universal Hulk statistics: they apply through the relevant Team-Up configuration. Evaluate Banner’s base changes separately from the Wolverine-dependent package before calling Hulk stronger in every match.

Piercing Arrow speed increased from 130–195 m/s to 140–210 m/s. The new range can shorten the lead against moving enemies, especially at longer sight lines. Crescent Slash recovery was slightly reduced, which can improve the time between uses or the time before Hawkeye can take another action.
The initial Hypersonic Arrow damage-field width expanded from 3 m to 5 m. A wider field can catch more targets when the opening placement is correct, but it does not remove the need for positioning and timing. Hawkeye also has changes to Psylocke and Cloak & Dagger Team-Ups. Count those only when the named Team-Up is active.
Phoenix: higher damage with a different survival tool
Cosmic Flames damage rose from 60 to 65. Sparks detonation direct damage increased from 40 to 45, and explosion damage increased from 15 to 20. These are straightforward damage gains when the abilities connect.

The survival change is more complicated. Detonation no longer self-heals Phoenix. Instead, it grants 5 bonus health for four seconds, with a cap of 25. Bonus health can help absorb a burst window, but it is not equivalent to restoring missing health. Phoenix’s ultimate can apply two Sparks when its explosion field and shockwave hit enemies, creating additional detonation opportunities under the stated condition. The Hela Team-Up cooldown was reduced from 12 to 10 seconds, which matters only with that Team-Up.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBecause damage increased while the self-heal was removed, Phoenix is a mixed redesign rather than an unconditional buff. Test whether the new bonus-health timing keeps you alive in the situations where the old self-heal mattered.
Cyclops: small per-hit gains and a cheaper ultimate
Optic Blast single-hit damage rose from 22 to 23. Cooldown reduction per hit increased from 0.25 to 0.3 seconds, and Ruby Rage’s energy cost fell from 3700 to 3400. These changes reward accurate, repeated hits and can make the ultimate available sooner. They are most meaningful for players who already maintain Optic Blast accuracy; they do not automatically compensate for missed shots.
Jubilee: more self-sustain, less blind duration
Jubilee gained continuous self-healing during Sparking Sprint and more healing from Firework Finale. Those changes can increase her ability to remain active between engagements. Dazzling Detonation’s blind duration was reduced, removing some control time. Her Blade Team-Up gained an ally-healing effect, but that benefit depends on the Team-Up. The result is a mixed adjustment: stronger sustain and team support in the specified situations, with a shorter blind window.

Gorr: damage and duration reductions traded for a shorter cooldown
Shadow Scythe damage fell from 55 plus 2% of the target’s maximum health to 50 plus 2%. Shockwave damage fell from 60 to 55, and the ultimate duration fell from 12 seconds to 10 seconds. Living Abyss’s cooldown improved from 15 to 12 seconds, but movement speed during it fell from 13 to 10 m/s.

If your play depends on repeated Living Abyss access, the shorter cooldown may matter. If it depends on burst damage, long ultimate uptime or fast movement during Living Abyss, the reductions are direct costs.
Other changes that prevent one-word tier labels
- Devil Dinosaur: base health fell from 850 to 825, reducing his health pool independently of any strategic adjustment.
- Scarlet Witch: Chthonian Burst field damage fell from 40 to 35.
- Gambit: Healing Hearts and Breaking Spades stack charge improved from eight to seven seconds. Ragin’ Royal Flush search range fell from 40 m to 30 m, and its extra jump boost fell from 500 to 300.
These examples show why “buffed” and “nerfed” are incomplete descriptions. Gambit has a faster stack charge but a smaller search range and weaker jump boost; Gorr has a shorter cooldown but lower damage, duration and movement speed; Jubilee has more healing but a shorter blind. Judge the change that affects your actual fight pattern.
Team-Ups can change the answer
Team-Up-dependent adjustments are easy to overstate. The balance post includes changes involving Wolverine, Psylocke, Cloak & Dagger, Hela, Blade, Magneto, The Thing, Adam Warlock and other named allies. A Team-Up improvement is not a base-kit improvement. Before selecting a hero because of a headline buff, verify three things:

Using statistics without being misled
The official Marvel Rivals Hero Hot List exposes filters for platform, game mode, role, rank, pick rate and win rate. Those are the right dimensions to compare, but the page displays an update time of December 30, 2024. It should not be used as current Season 10.5 performance evidence. Its filters do not make its old snapshot a 2026 ranking.
When a current data snapshot is available, use this order:
- Confirm that the collection date is after October 9, 2026, at 09:00 UTC.
- Match your platform, mode, role and rank.
- Check sample size or match volume before treating a percentage as stable.
- Read pick rate alongside win rate; a narrow specialist sample can distort either number.
- Look for several days of data rather than a few hours immediately after the patch.
If no clearly dated, patch-matched dataset exists, omit numerical rankings and use the balance notes plus your own repeatable results. The absence of verified current statistics is a reason to qualify the conclusion, not to fill the gap with a guessed tier list.

Standard matches and the Infinity War event are different tests
The official Season 10.5 update schedules Path to Doomsday: Avengers: Infinity War from October 9 through December 11, 2026, at 09:00 UTC. Event rules and objectives can reward different damage patterns, mobility or survival decisions than standard competitive matches. Keep event observations in their own category. A hero that feels exceptional in the Infinity War mode is not automatically the best choice for ordinary matches.

A practical shortlist for your next session
Choose Hulk when your problem is projectile consistency or resource access
Begin with Hulk if you like his Vanguard play pattern and want to test faster Banner-form shots and improved Gamma Grenade energy. Track how often the grenade hits Hulk and whether the extra energy changes a real fight outcome. Do not count Wolverine Team-Up benefits unless the Team-Up is active.
Choose Hawkeye when you already understand precision spacing
Test Hawkeye if you can use sight lines, manage recovery windows and benefit from faster Piercing Arrow timing. Record whether the 5 m initial Hypersonic Arrow field catches targets you previously missed. The larger field does not replace aim or positioning.
Choose Phoenix when damage pressure outweighs lost self-healing
Pick Phoenix for a damage-focused trial if you can use Sparks and the ultimate’s two-Sparks condition. Measure how often the 5 bonus health keeps you alive compared with the old self-heal behavior described in earlier play. Treat Hela’s 10-second cooldown as a Team-Up-specific factor.

Keep a familiar fallback
Use a practiced hero in the same role as a control. Compare deaths, ultimate timing, objective presence and fight wins over a similar number of matches. A hero with a smaller theoretical ceiling can produce better results when its mechanics are already automatic for you.
Common mistakes after a balance patch
- Calling a buff a win-rate increase: the balance post supplies ability values, not outcome data.
- Using the old Hot List as a current ranking: its displayed December 30, 2024 timestamp predates Season 10.5.
- Ignoring role and rank: aggregate figures can hide major differences between player groups.
- Counting Team-Up effects in every match: conditional benefits require the named ally or selection.
- Mixing event and standard results: Infinity War mode has a separate schedule and objective context.
- Testing too briefly: launch-day novelty and small samples can make a hero appear stronger or weaker than a settled result.
- Reducing mixed changes to “buff” or “nerf”: Phoenix, Jubilee, Gorr and Gambit each demonstrate why the affected mechanic matters.
The defensible Season 10.5 answer
Reassess Hulk, Hawkeye and Phoenix first, because their documented changes are substantial enough to alter how they feel and how reliably they execute their jobs. Then choose among them—or stay with another hero—using your role, platform, mode, rank, practiced mechanics and Team-Up access. No verified source establishes one universal Season 10.5 leader, and the official Hot List’s December 2024 timestamp cannot supply that missing conclusion.
