A Marvel Rivals tier list is an interpretation of data, not a universal truth about every match. To judge a hero fairly, compare pick rate and win rate from the same date, platform, queue, rank bracket, role and methodology, then account for team composition and your own proficiency. The official Hero Hot List is the best starting point for filtered numbers; third-party lists can be useful when they explain how they adjust for sample size.

What a tier list, pick rate and win rate actually measure

These terms describe different things, so treating them as synonyms produces bad conclusions about hero strength.

Tier lists are rankings built from a method

A tier list places heroes into ordered bands such as S, A or B. The label may be based on raw win rates, adjusted statistics, observed tournament results, community tracking or an analyst’s judgment. There is no single official Marvel Rivals tier taxonomy that makes every S-tier placement equivalent. Always ask who made the list, which data it used and when that data was collected.

Pick rate measures selection frequency

Pick rate is the share of recorded matches in which a hero appears. It answers, “How often is this hero selected?” It is not the hero’s chance of winning. Because a team has six hero slots, the official feed explains that roster pick rates add up to 600 percent rather than 100 percent when every hero’s appearances are counted across teams.

Win rate measures the result of games in which the hero appeared

Win rate is the share of that hero’s recorded matches won by the hero’s side. It answers, “When this hero was selected, how often did that side win?” It does not isolate the hero’s causal contribution. Teammates, opponents, map, objective, player skill, substitutions and coordinated team-ups all influence the result.

Metric Question it answers What it cannot prove
Pick rate How frequently the hero appears in the selected match population That the hero is strong or likely to win
Win rate How often the hero’s side wins when the hero is present That the hero caused the win or will perform identically for you
Tier placement How a publisher, analyst or community ranks the hero under a stated method That the placement is universal, permanent or comparable with another list

Start with the official Hero Hot List, but verify its live data

The Marvel Rivals Hero Hot List is the primary reference for filtered pick and win rates. Its interface exposes platform, game mode, role and rank dimensions, allowing a PC Competitive player at a particular rank to be compared with a matching population instead of with an unrelated aggregate.

The page’s surfaced update time was 6 October 2026. An accessible rendering associated with that source showed an older date and no populated current table, so do not quote an empty or stale rendering as if it were a current leaderboard. Open the live interface immediately before publication or analysis and record the date shown with the figures you use.

Use the filters in a fixed order

  1. Set platform. Choose PC or console. Input, performance and player populations differ, so a PC number is not automatically interchangeable with a console number.
  2. Set queue. Select Quickplay or Competitive. Competitive matches and Quickplay matches have different incentives, coordination and skill distributions.
  3. Set rank. Use the relevant bracket or all-ranks view. An all-ranks aggregate can conceal a hero’s behavior at your own rating.
  4. Set role. Compare heroes within the role you intend to play. A support, tank or damage hero should not be judged by a role-blind expectation of identical responsibilities.
  5. Record the date and patch context. Save the displayed update date and the season or patch in which the numbers were produced. Rates move as balance changes and as more matches enter the feed.
  6. Read both rates together. Note pick rate and win rate for each candidate, then compare only rows produced by the same filter settings.

Understand the feed’s timing

The official-feed presentation on rivals.gs states that NetEase recomputes the feed about weekly and breaks it down by PC and console, Quick Match and Competitive, and rank brackets. A newly added hero may not appear until a later computation. A missing row therefore does not necessarily mean zero picks; it may indicate that the hero has not yet entered the next published feed.

Why pick rate and win rate can point in opposite directions

Popularity and observed success answer different questions. Players may choose a hero because the character is fashionable, easy to access, required for a team-up, strong on a particular map, or simply enjoyable. Those reasons can make a hero common without making its aggregate win rate high.

A dated example from the same population

The rivals.gs page presents NetEase official-feed figures computed on 6 October 2026 for PC Competitive, all ranks, across 56 heroes. In that snapshot, Cloak & Dagger appeared often but had a below-even observed result, while Peni Parker appeared less often but had a higher observed result.

Hero Pick rate Win rate Population and date
Cloak & Dagger 16.85% 47.84% NetEase feed presented by rivals.gs; PC Competitive, all ranks; computed 6 October 2026
Peni Parker 4.59% 58.05% NetEase feed presented by rivals.gs; PC Competitive, all ranks; computed 6 October 2026

This is evidence that popularity and observed win rate can diverge. It does not establish that Peni Parker is universally better, that Cloak & Dagger is weak in every rank, or that the difference is statistically significant. The figures are an aggregate of games played by different people in different lineups. Use them to identify a question worth investigating, not as a promise about your next match.

How to interpret four common combinations

  • High pick, high win: The hero is widely used and performs well in that filtered population. Check whether the result persists across ranks and roles before calling it universally dominant.
  • High pick, low win: The hero may be popular because of familiarity, novelty, team-up demand or a large number of inexperienced users. A high selection rate can also expose the hero to many unfavorable matchups.
  • Low pick, high win: The hero may be situational, difficult to play, newly buffed, concentrated among specialists or effective only in certain compositions. Investigate sample size and role context.
  • Low pick, low win: The hero may be unpopular and struggling in that population, but a small or unusual sample can make the percentage unstable. Look for the same pattern in adjacent rank and mode filters.

Why tier lists disagree even when they use “win rate”

Two lists can use the same word while measuring different quantities. One may rank raw official-feed percentages; another may adjust small samples; a third may combine statistics with expert judgment. Their labels are not directly comparable until their methods are aligned.

Raw-rate lists

A raw-rate list orders heroes by the displayed win percentage. It is easy to understand, but a hero with relatively few matches can move sharply after a small number of wins or losses. Raw rates also mix the skill and composition of the players who selected each hero.

Role-relative lists

Some analysts rank heroes against others in the same role rather than against the entire roster. This can better reflect what a player must choose when filling a role, but it means an A-tier damage hero and an A-tier support hero are not necessarily interchangeable in a team.

Adjusted lists using shrinkage

Counterwatch describes a method that pulls uncertain rates toward a neutral 50 percent baseline. Its stated formula is:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

shrunk = (rawWinRate × matches + 0.5 × 400) / (matches + 400)

The method adds 400 hypothetical coin-flip matches before calculating the adjusted rate. A hero with a small sample is therefore moved closer to 50 percent, while a hero with many matches is influenced more by its observed results. Counterwatch ranks heroes within role using this approach and says its ordering can change during a season as more history arrives.

That 400-match prior belongs to Counterwatch’s list. It is not an official Marvel Rivals statistic, and it should not be assumed to power the Hero Hot List or every other creator’s ranking.

Subjective and context-enhanced lists

An analyst may combine data with map suitability, ability interactions, team-up effects, mechanical difficulty and observed tournament play. Such a list can answer a practical question that raw rates cannot, but its judgments should be labeled as interpretation rather than presented as measured win probability.

A checklist for judging any Marvel Rivals tier list

Before accepting a placement, work through each of these checks.

1. Identify the date, patch and season

Balance changes, new heroes and player adaptation can reorder a list. Counterwatch explicitly notes that ordering may change within a season and that early-season data contains less history. A list without a visible date is difficult to evaluate.

2. Match the population

Confirm platform, queue, rank bracket and role. A PC Competitive all-ranks figure is not a valid stand-in for console Quickplay or a top-rank role comparison. If a list combines populations, treat its values as broad context rather than a precise answer for your situation.

3. Find the definition of win rate

Check whether “win rate” means games won when the hero appeared, rounds won, player-specific performance or a model’s estimate. The official feed’s definition concerns the hero’s matches, while other sites may calculate a different denominator.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Check the sample-size treatment

Look for match counts, minimum thresholds, confidence intervals or a stated adjustment such as Counterwatch’s 400-match shrinkage. The official feed and cited comparison do not establish official per-hero sample sizes, confidence intervals or significance tests, so a visible percentage gap should not be called statistically significant without that evidence.

5. Check whether roles are mixed

A role-relative ranking answers a different question from a roster-wide ranking. Make sure the list’s tiers compare like with like and that a role’s responsibilities have not been lost in a single aggregate number.

6. Read the caveats about team context

Counterwatch warns that aggregate data hides team-up effects and does not encode a particular player’s mastery, map or exact lineup. A list that omits those limitations may be easier to scan but is less useful for a real decision.

Sample size, uncertainty and the danger of overreading a percentage

A percentage is only as stable as the number and composition of matches behind it. If a hero has very few recorded games, one additional win can move the displayed rate substantially. A large sample does not remove all bias, but it generally makes random swings less dramatic than in a tiny sample.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Neither the official Hot List material nor the cited comparison establishes per-hero confidence intervals or a formal significance test. Do not convert a 58.05 percent rate versus a 47.84 percent rate into a claim that the first hero is definitively stronger. The comparison shows different observed outcomes under one set of filters; it does not prove a causal effect.

Shrinkage is one response to instability, not a magic correction. Pulling a rate toward 50 percent can reduce overreaction to small samples, but it also reflects a modeling choice about the neutral baseline and the strength of the prior. When reading an adjusted list, inspect the formula and the amount of shrinkage rather than treating the adjusted value as an official truth.

Team-ups, maps and player mastery change what “strong” means

Hero performance is conditional. A character can be effective when a particular team-up is active, on a map that rewards its mobility, or in a lineup that supplies the required protection. The same character may be less effective when isolated from that context.

Aggregate rates also blend beginners and specialists. A mechanically demanding hero might have a modest overall win rate while performing very well for experienced players. Conversely, an accessible hero can attract many first-time users whose results depress the aggregate. Neither pattern tells you what a practiced player will achieve without additional evidence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the data to narrow choices, then test the hero in the role, map types and compositions you actually encounter. Keep your own results separate from the global rate: record queue, rank, map, lineup and a meaningful number of games before drawing a personal conclusion.

A practical decision framework for choosing a hero

Step 1: Define your question

Decide whether you want the strongest statistical option in your rank, a reliable choice for a role, a counter to a recurring opponent, or a hero that fits your preferred team-up. These are different optimization targets and may produce different answers.

Step 2: Pull a matching official view

Set the Hero Hot List to your platform, queue, rank and role. Record the update date, then note both pick and win rates for a short list of candidates. Do not mix a current row with an older screenshot or a different mode.

Step 3: Use tier lists as a second opinion

Compare the candidates with a list that explains its method. Mark whether it uses raw rates, role-relative ordering, shrinkage or expert judgment. If its date or filters do not match yours, treat it as directional evidence only.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Step 4: Investigate disagreements

If the official rate looks ordinary but a list places the hero high, look for role context, team-up effects, map specialization or an adjusted sample method. If the official rate is high but the list is cautious, check whether the rate comes from a small or highly specialized population.

Step 5: Validate fit in your own games

Choose the hero you can execute consistently. Track your outcomes over enough matches to avoid judging from a single win streak or loss streak, and note whether the required lineup and map conditions were present.

Common mistakes and how to correct them

Comparing unlike filters

Mistake: Using a PC Competitive number to argue about console Quickplay strength.

Correction: Align platform, mode, rank and role before comparing rates.

Calling pick rate a win probability

Mistake: Assuming the most selected hero is the likeliest to win.

Correction: Treat pick rate as popularity or exposure, then read the separately defined win rate.

Using an old screenshot as current evidence

Mistake: Quoting a table without its compute date.

Correction: Recheck the live Hot List and attach the date and filters to every quoted number.

How to read a disagreement between the Hot List and a tier list

First determine whether the disagreement is numerical or definitional. A list may be based on a different date, role or rank, in which case the two sources are not actually measuring the same population. If the filters match, check whether one source uses raw rates and the other uses shrinkage or expert context.

Next look for a difference in the decision being answered. The Hot List reports what happened in the selected feed. A tier list may be trying to predict which hero is easiest to convert into wins for a coordinated team, or which hero has the best ceiling after mastery. Both can be internally coherent while reaching different placements.

Finally, preserve the uncertainty. Without official sample counts and statistical tests, do not force a tie-breaker from a small numerical gap. Prefer the hero that fits your role, map pool, team plan and practiced mechanics when the evidence does not clearly separate the candidates.

What a well-supported conclusion looks like

A careful statement includes the population and the limitation: “In the NetEase feed presented by rivals.gs, computed 6 October 2026 for PC Competitive all ranks, Peni Parker had a 58.05 percent win rate and 4.59 percent pick rate, while Cloak & Dagger had a 47.84 percent win rate and 16.85 percent pick rate. The contrast shows that selection frequency and observed success can diverge; it does not prove universal superiority or explain the causes.”

That format is more useful than saying one hero is simply “best.” It tells readers what was measured, when it was measured and what the figures cannot establish.

Bottom line

Use the official Hero Hot List to obtain a current, filtered baseline; use pick rate to understand selection and win rate to understand outcomes in the same population. When consulting a tier list, verify its date, filters, role treatment, sample-size method and team-context caveats. A ranking can reveal patterns, but your character’s real strength still depends on the patch, lobby, lineup, map and player controlling the hero.
