Choose MARVEL Cosmic Invasion if you want a side-scrolling beat ’em up built around tag-team combat and co-op on current platforms. Choose Marvel: Ultimate Alliance if you would rather build a superhero team for a longer-form action-adventure—and can access a compatible copy. The games share a Marvel team-up premise, but they are not the same kind of brawler.

Choose Cosmic Invasion for a direct, cooperative brawler
Its defining pitch is immediate: side-scrolling beat ’em up action, with tag-team character play. Nintendo lists local and online co-op and cross-platform play for the Switch edition. The platform lineup announced by Dotemu gives it a clearer current route if you are buying for modern hardware.

Dotemu announced Cosmic Invasion at $29.99 and as part of Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch. Those are launch-era details, not a guarantee of today’s price or subscription-catalog availability; check the current store listing before buying.
Choose Ultimate Alliance for team-building adventure
If what you want is to assemble a superhero squad and take it through an epic quest, Ultimate Alliance is the closer match. Its team-building focus is clear in Xbox’s official description. Treat the action/RPG label carefully: Activision applied it to the sequel, Ultimate Alliance 2, rather than providing a definitive genre label for every edition of the original.

Access is the practical catch. Game Informer reported that the 2016 digital re-releases of both games were delisted in July 2018, while noting that people who already owned them could keep playing. Check your console or PC library and regional store; do not count on a legacy product page being a current purchase option.

Dotemu’s launch announcement lists PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Nintendo also has a Switch listing. For physical copies, Dotemu announced Standard and Deluxe editions for Switch, Switch 2, and PS5.
