To stop MapMyRun on a Samsung watch, first identify what you want to stop: an active workout, Samsung Health’s automatic workout detection, MapMyRun alerts, or the app itself. These are separate controls. Samsung Health’s workout-detection setting does not turn off a MapMyRun-specific feature.
Stop a workout that is running now
On a Galaxy Watch running Wear OS, swipe right from the workout screen to open its controls, then tap Finish. The same controls include Pause and Resume. Samsung’s instructions apply to Wear OS models; menu details can vary by watch and software version. Samsung’s Wear OS workout instructions.
Stop Samsung Health from detecting workouts automatically
If Samsung Health is recording exercise without you starting it, change its workout-detection setting on the watch:

- Open Settings, then choose Workout detection or Activities to detect.
- Turn off workout detection or disable the specific activity you do not want detected.
Samsung notes that labels and available options vary by watch, software, and provider. This setting controls Samsung Health’s automatic detection; it is not evidence of a MapMyRun auto-start switch. Samsung’s automatic workout-detection guidance.

Silence MapMyRun notifications
If the problem is alerts rather than recording, turn off notifications for the app. On the connected phone, open Galaxy Wearable > Watch settings > Notifications > App notifications, then switch off MapMyRun. You can also manage app notifications on the watch through Settings > Notifications > App notifications. The exact labels may vary by model and software. Restrict MapMyRun permissions
Wear OS lets you manage individual app permissions in the watch’s settings. Use this if you want to limit access rather than remove the app. A running app may need location permission to track a route, so denying it can affect tracking and other features. Remove MapMyRun from the watch
If you do not want the app on the watch at all, try uninstalling it:
- On the connected phone, open Galaxy Wearable.
- Go to Watch settings > Apps, select MapMyRun, and choose Uninstall.
- Alternatively, on the watch, touch and hold the app’s icon and choose Uninstall.
If the watch does not offer an uninstall option, that app cannot be removed through that route on that device. Steps can vary by manufacturer, watch, and software version; see Google’s instructions for getting and removing watch apps and Samsung’s Galaxy Watch app troubleshooting guidance.

If MapMyRun keeps opening by itself
The official guidance cited here does not establish a MapMyRun-specific auto-launch toggle for Galaxy Watch. Do not use Samsung Health’s workout-detection control as if it were a MapMyRun setting. First determine whether the watch is showing a Samsung Health workout, a MapMyRun notification, or the MapMyRun app screen; then use the matching control above. The exact next step depends on your watch model, software version, and what appears on screen.
MapMyFitness also has guidance about keeping its Android phone app active during workout tracking, but that concerns phone background behavior—not stopping the watch app from opening. MapMyFitness’s Android background-app guidance.
