As of October 12, 2026, Mallika Srinivasan and Lakshmi Venu say no economic settlement has been reached within their family branch. The dispute turns in part on whether a March 2024 memorandum of understanding (MoU), which addressed TVS brand use and specified business restrictions, also divided family assets. The public information cited so far does not resolve that question.
What Mallika Srinivasan and Lakshmi Venu said
A joint statement reported on October 12, 2026, said: “No economic settlement has been reached within the Venu Srinivasan family.” The statement is their position on economic ownership; it does not by itself determine the legal effect of earlier family arrangements or the MoU.
The distinction matters because management roles, permission to use trademarks, and restrictions on competing business activity do not automatically establish how family assets are owned or divided.
What the March 2024 MoU filing disclosed
In a filing dated March 22, 2024, TVS Holdings said the MoU was dated March 20 and its execution was completed March 21. The named parties were Venu Srinivasan, Mallika Srinivasan, Lakshmi Venu, and Sudarshan Venu. The company described it as a further understanding alongside earlier family settlement arrangements, including matters concerning TVS brand use. Read the TVS Holdings filing.

The disclosed terms included restrictions on Sudarshan Venu and persons controlled by him using specified trademarks, including TVS, in certain businesses. The filing also recorded the parties’ view that the MoU would not adversely affect TVS Holdings’ business or its ability to continue as then conducted. That was the company’s assertion in March 2024, not an independent finding about the family’s ownership dispute.
Why reports differ on whether assets were divided
An October 9, 2026, report by The Economic Times attributed to people close to Venu and Sudarshan the interpretation that the MoU amounted to a division of family assets. Sources close to Mallika and Lakshmi were reported to take a narrower view: that it dealt with brand use and non-compete clauses, not ownership of assets. The parties’ reported disagreement is about the scope and effect of the arrangements; the cited reporting does not adjudicate their legal meaning. Read the October 9 report.

Management, brand rights and economic ownership are different questions
- Management responsibility: who runs particular companies or holds leadership roles.
- Brand rights and business restrictions: who may use specified trademarks, and what activities are restricted under an arrangement.
- Economic ownership: who owns family assets, how they are valued, and whether they have been divided or settled.
The March 2024 filing provides information about the second category and records a statement about business continuity. It does not, on its face, establish that the family’s economic ownership questions were finally resolved. Mallika and Lakshmi’s October 2026 statement rejects treating the arrangements as an economic settlement; the other reported interpretation remains attributed to people close to Venu and Sudarshan.

What remains unresolved publicly
The available filings and reporting do not establish a final public resolution of the economic ownership dispute, nor do they settle asset shares, valuations, or inheritance entitlements. TVS Holdings’ 2024 disclosure was about the MoU and its expected effect on the company’s business; it was not an announcement that the family’s ownership dispute had been resolved.
