To change your Samsung tablet’s Home screen, touch and hold an empty area of it. The editing view lets you manage pages and layout, add app shortcuts and widgets, group apps in folders, and change the wallpaper. The exact controls can vary by tablet model, country, and software version.
Manage Home screen pages and layout
- On any Home screen, touch and hold an empty area to open the editing view.
- Swipe through the page previews. To add a page, swipe to an empty page and tap the plus icon. To delete a page, select its preview and tap the trash icon.
- To set the main Home screen, select the page and tap the house icon. To reorder pages, touch and hold a preview, then drag it to the desired position.
- Tap Home screen settings to see additional layout options. The available settings and screens can vary by country, as Samsung notes in its Galaxy tablet Home screen guide.
Add or remove app shortcuts
Swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen to open the Apps screen. Touch and hold an app, then tap Add to Home, or keep holding and drag it to the Home screen page where you want it.
To remove a shortcut, touch and hold it and select Remove from Home. This removes only the Home screen shortcut; it does not uninstall the app from the tablet, according to Samsung’s instructions.
Add, move, resize, or remove widgets
- Go to the Home screen page where you want the widget, touch and hold an empty area, then tap Widgets.
- Touch and hold the widget you want and drag it into position.
- If the widget supports resizing, drag its on-screen handles. Some widgets also have color or transparency controls.
- To remove a widget, touch and hold it and tap Remove from Home.
Widget resizing and appearance controls depend on the widget. Samsung outlines these options in its tablet customization guide.

Group apps in folders
Touch and hold one app shortcut, drag it onto another shortcut, and release to create a folder. You can name the folder, choose a color, and add more apps. To remove a folder from the Home screen, touch and hold it and tap Remove from Home; Samsung says the apps in it return to the Apps screen.
Change the wallpaper
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen and tap Wallpapers. Alternatively, open Settings and tap Wallpapers.
- Choose a preloaded wallpaper or select an image from Gallery. Adjust the image as needed.
- Choose Home screen to apply it only to the Home screen, or Home and lock screens to apply it to both. Tap Set as wallpaper.

What changes with tablet model and software
Samsung UK says supported Galaxy tablets running One UI 7 can use separate app and widget positions and sizes for portrait and landscape Home screens. The same apps and widgets must appear in both orientations, but their positions and sizes can differ. This behavior is not universal: Samsung notes that options depend on the device model and software version. See its guide to separate portrait and landscape layouts.
If a setting or button described here is missing, your tablet’s model, installed software, or country may present different options. Samsung’s Canada support page also cautions that screens and settings vary by country; its tablet guidance does not establish Galaxy Themes as a tablet customization option.
