The most useful Siri commands at home are the ones that match the names, rooms, and scenes you’ve set up in the Home app. You can ask Siri to control lights and other compatible accessories, check a lock, start a HomePod audio request, or control Apple TV playback—but not every command works on every device or accessory.
Control lights, fans, heating, and shades
Ask for an accessory by its Home app name, or identify it by room. Use the names and room assignments in your setup; Siri relies on those details.

Turn on the porch light.Turn off the lights in the bedroom.Turn on the fan in the office.Start heating the upstairs.Open the living room shades.
These requests require compatible accessories added to the Home app. The specific requests and automations available depend on the accessories you have set up, as Apple’s HomePod control guide explains.

Run a scene with one phrase
A scene groups actions for multiple configured accessories. If you created a scene called “Good night,” you might say Set the good night scene or simply Good night. The phrase triggers the actions you assigned; it does not have a universal set of default actions. Apple’s example scene turns off lights, locks the front door, and lowers the temperature.

Check home status and control accessories remotely
You can ask for the current state of supported accessories, for example:
Is the front door locked?Is the garage door closed?Is the living room light on?
To control home accessories through Siri when you’re away, you need a home hub. Apple identifies HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV as possible home hubs. Control Apple TV playback from HomePod
When HomePod is set up to control Apple TV 4K, try requests such as:
Play my favorite show.Pause Apple TV.Rewind 30 seconds.Turn subtitles on.Turn off Apple TV.
Assigning HomePod and Apple TV to the same room in the Home app can make requests simpler because you may not need to say the room or device name.

Ask HomePod to play music around the house
HomePod handles common listening requests, including playback, volume, timers, and room-to-room audio:
Play some music.Set the volume to 50 percent.Stop playing in 30 minutes.Play music in the living room.Move this to the bedroom.Play everywhere.
These are HomePod audio requests; they are not commands that every Siri-enabled device or speaker necessarily supports. Apple’s HomePod audio guide lists supported examples.

Apple’s HomePod guide also covers alarms and conversions. For temperature and humidity readings, HomePod mini and HomePod (2nd generation) include sensors. Apple says sensing is optimized for indoor conditions around 15°C to 30°C and 30% to 70% relative humidity. Readings may be less accurate after extended high-volume audio, and the sensors need time to calibrate after startup.

Set up names, rooms, and a hub before relying on commands
- Add compatible accessories: Set up supported devices in the Home app, then give them clear names and assign them to rooms. Siri uses the names and details stored there.
- Create scenes for routines: In the Home app, configure the accessories and actions you want grouped together, then give the scene a name you can say naturally.
- Add a home hub for remote control: Set up HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV as a home hub if you want to control accessories through Siri when away from home.
- Configure personal requests if needed: HomePod can recognize household members. To use personal content such as messages, calendar information, and calls, set up voice recognition and Personal Content in the relevant Apple device and Home settings.
Apple’s current HomePod control guide search result identifies HomePod software version 27 or later; its setup and audio guide results identify version 26 or later. Check Apple’s current guidance for the software version and device involved, since capabilities can change. Apple also notes that Siri availability and features vary by language and country or region, and the “Siri” invocation without “Hey” is not available everywhere. See Apple’s HomePod setup guide.
