If voices are hard to hear while music and sound effects dominate, first try your LG TV’s Clear Voice or Clear Voice Pro setting. Then compare the same scene in Standard mode and on another channel, app, or input. Menu names vary by model and webOS version, and a problem limited to one program may come from its mix or broadcast rather than the TV.
Turn on Clear Voice or Clear Voice Pro
LG’s dialogue-focused sound mode emphasizes human-voice frequencies to make speech easier to distinguish from background audio. It can also make the overall sound less blended or natural, so compare it with your previous mode using the same scene and volume.
Use the path for your TV generation as a starting point; menu labels and feature availability can vary by model and software updates. If the labels do not match, check your TV’s manual.

These are LG USA guidance paths; menus may differ by region or after an update. LG’s Clear Voice instructions describe how to enable the feature, while its dialogue troubleshooting guidance explains when the mode may help.

Compare sound modes on the same scene
After trying Clear Voice, compare it with Standard and the mode you were using before. Keep the TV volume unchanged and replay the same scene; otherwise, differences in the program or volume can make the comparison misleading. LG describes Standard as a general-purpose mode and Clear Voice Pro as a dialogue-clarity option in its 2023 webOS sound-mode simulator.
Cinema or Sports modes can make voices seem lower or more masked in some cases. The available modes differ across TVs, so use the choices your set actually offers rather than assuming every LG model has the same list.

Check whether the problem follows one source
If the imbalance occurs only on one channel, program, app, or input, test another source before resetting the TV or arranging service. Some broadcasts place music and effects above dialogue, and a problem confined to particular programs or channels may be related to their audio mix or broadcast signal. LG discusses this possibility in its dialogue and background-music support guide.

Check a set-top box and run Sound Self Diagnosis
If you use a set-top box, check its volume as well as the TV’s. If TV audio is still unusually low, LG recommends its Sound Self Diagnosis feature. The menu path for the test depends on webOS generation; follow the directions for your model in LG’s low-audio troubleshooting guide.
- If the diagnostic plays sound normally, the TV may be working properly and the broadcast signal or connected source may be responsible.
- If the issue appears tied to the set-top box, reset it where appropriate and contact the service provider if the signal remains the likely cause.
- If the diagnostic also sounds abnormal, or the problem persists across sources after these checks, contact LG support for a service assessment. The symptom by itself does not establish a hardware fault.
Use AI Sound Pro only if your TV and audio setup support it
AI Sound Pro is a model-dependent option, not a universal dialogue fix. LG describes it as analyzing content to optimize audio and voices. Its general guidance lists Settings > All Settings > General > AI Service > AI Sound Pro for 2020-and-newer TVs; 2019-and-older models may instead list Sound > AI Sound. Check your model’s manual if those options are absent. See LG’s AI Sound setup guidance.

LG limits AI Sound to the TV’s internal speakers or supported LG soundbars with TV Sound Mode Share. For an external setup, a supported Sound Share device connected through HDMI ARC or eARC may be required. Confirm that your particular TV and audio device support the feature before troubleshooting around a setting you may not be able to use; LG explains the conditions in its AI Sound capabilities guide.

Dolby Atmos playback requires compatible equipment and content that provides Atmos audio, and setup steps vary by LG model and webOS version. Atmos may suit an immersive-audio setup, but LG’s Atmos instructions do not establish that it raises dialogue relative to effects. It is not a required troubleshooting step or a guaranteed fix for quiet voices. Check LG’s Dolby Atmos setup instructions if you are configuring supported equipment.

Consider external audio only after the free checks
If the TV’s built-in speakers remain difficult to use for dialogue, an external soundbar with explicit speech enhancement or volume leveling is one possible next step. Check compatibility with your TV, connection options, placement needs, price, and return terms before buying. LG’s 2025 H7 specification sheet lists Clear Voice Pro+ and Auto Volume Leveler, but that alone does not establish that the soundbar is suitable for every LG TV, room, or budget; see the LG H7 specification sheet. No comparative test here establishes a best soundbar or sound mode.
