To make Firefox your default browser on Android, open Firefox, go to Settings, and choose its default-browser option. The exact steps depend on your Android version: Mozilla documents separate routes for Android 10 and newer and Android 8–9.
Set Firefox as the default on Android 10 and newer
-
Open Firefox and tap the three-dot menu.
-
Tap Settings.
-
Under General, tap Set default browser.
-
Turn on Set as default browser.
-
When Android shows the browser list, select Firefox.
Set Firefox as the default on Android 8 or 9
-
Open Firefox and tap the three-dot menu.
-
Tap Settings.
-
Tap the Set default browser toggle.
-
On the system screen that opens, tap Browser app.
-
Select Firefox.
If your Android menus look different
Phone makers can change the wording and layout of Android settings, so a screen may not match Mozilla’s documented path exactly. If Firefox’s steps do not lead to the browser selection, open your phone’s Android Settings and look for Default apps or Browser app, then choose Firefox. The precise labels vary by device.

What changes when Firefox is the default
Android uses the default browser to open web links from other apps. After you select Firefox, links tapped in apps such as Gmail or Facebook open in Firefox. Other browsers remain installed; changing the default does not remove them. Mozilla’s how-to was last updated July 27, 2026: Set Firefox as your default browser on Android.
