Magik’s published no-assist route in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a long sequence that starts with a medium chain, delays its launcher, reaches a wall splat, and transforms into Darkchylde for the final extension and Ultimate. Follow the inputs below in order; the two critical moments are waiting for Star-Lord to fall before Down Heavy and activating Darkchylde on the last hit of the grounded follow-up.

Nerd’s Chalk’s guide, updated August 17, 2026, reports 74,745 damage against Star-Lord with no assists. That figure belongs to the guide’s demonstrated setup, so treat it as a reference rather than a guaranteed value for every opponent, version, or setting.

The complete Magik solo combo

Use Quick Skill notation exactly as written. The route does not require an assist and ends with Magik’s Ultimate while she is still in Darkchylde.

Stage Inputs What must happen
Starter Medium > Down Medium > Back Quick Skill + Medium Confirm the opening chain and carry the opponent into the launcher sequence.
Delayed launcher Wait for the opponent to fall, then Down Heavy > Forward Quick Skill + Heavy Do not press Down Heavy immediately; the delay is the first major timing check.
Wall splat Jump Heavy > Forward Quick Skill Use the jump attack into Forward Quick Skill to send Star-Lord to the wall.
Grounded follow-up Medium > Heavy > Back Quick Skill + Heavy Complete the grounded string and prepare the transformation timing.
Transform Four Unique + Quick Skill Press this as the final hit of Back Quick Skill + Heavy connects.
Darkchylde extension Heavy Quick Skill > Heavy Back Quick Skill Continue immediately after the transformation succeeds.
Ender Forward Quick + Quick Skill While still in Darkchylde, use this input for Magik’s Ultimate.

Directional labels are relative to Magik’s current opponent: Back points away from Star-Lord and Forward points toward him. If the sides switch, the direction named Back or Forward switches with them. The plus sign means the buttons are pressed together; the greater-than sign means perform the next action after the previous one.

How to perform each section

1. Establish the starter

Begin with Medium, then press Down Medium, followed by Back Quick Skill + Medium. Think of this as one connected opening rather than three isolated attacks. Confirm that the first two hits are connecting before committing to the Back Quick Skill plus Medium follow-up.

The starter is the easiest place to reset during practice. If the first hit whiffs, stop and try again instead of improvising; the later timing is built around the opponent being launched by this exact sequence.

2. Delay Down Heavy for the launch

After the starter, let Star-Lord fall farther than you would for a normal immediate juggle. Once he has dropped into the correct height, use Down Heavy, then Forward Quick Skill + Heavy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Nerd’s Chalk identifies this delayed Down Heavy as the route’s first major drop point. The guide specifically cautions against treating the launcher as a raw standalone input. If Down Heavy misses under the falling opponent, you pressed too early or began the sequence from the wrong spacing. If the opponent lands before the follow-up, your delay was too long.

3. Convert the launch into the wall splat

When the launcher has connected, use Jump Heavy and then Forward Quick Skill. The source says this route produces its wall splat only once, so do not expect repeated wall-bounce opportunities if the first conversion is mistimed.

Watch the opponent’s position rather than trying to mash the two attacks. Jump Heavy must connect during the launch’s available air window; Forward Quick Skill then supplies the wall-splat hit. If Jump Heavy connects but the wall splat does not occur, check that you are not delaying the Forward input until after the opponent has moved out of range.

4. Finish the grounded portion

After the wall interaction, return to the ground with Medium > Heavy > Back Quick Skill + Heavy. This is the setup for Darkchylde, not the end of the combo. Keep the final Back Quick Skill + Heavy sequence visually separate in your mind because the transformation input is tied to its last hit.

5. Activate Darkchylde on the final hit

Press Four Unique + Quick Skill as the last hit of Back Quick Skill + Heavy connects. This is a hit-confirm timing input: the transformation should begin at the end of the grounded string, not at its start and not after the animation has completely finished.

Activating too late is the most damaging error because the Darkchylde extension will no longer line up. If the transformation appears but Heavy Quick Skill does not connect, you probably waited beyond the final hit’s cancel window. If Darkchylde never activates, verify that Four Unique and Quick Skill were pressed together and that the preceding Back Quick Skill + Heavy actually hit.

6. Extend and finish with the Ultimate

Once Darkchylde is active, perform Heavy Quick Skill > Heavy Back Quick Skill. While Magik remains transformed, use Forward Quick + Quick Skill to trigger her Ultimate. The Ultimate requires the Darkchylde state; it is not the equivalent ender for an untransformed version of the route.

Input method: use the notation as written

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls supports two Skill-input methods. PlayStation’s official beginner guide describes motion-based Command Inputs and one-button Quick Skills. Command Inputs do slightly more damage and generate more Skill Gauge, while Quick Skills are intended to make the fundamentals easier to learn.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The published Magik route is written with Quick Skill inputs. Do not silently replace a Quick Skill with a motion command unless you have verified the exact corresponding command in your game version. A theoretically stronger input can alter timing, gauge gain, or the cancel window and therefore stop matching the demonstrated route.

The same official guide explains basic light, medium, and heavy chains, more advanced routes that combine Skills with Assemble Rush, and Training Mode as the place to learn them. Those mechanics explain why the route can link several attack types, but they do not independently confirm every link in this specific sequence.

Why this route works as a solo route

Every listed hit belongs to Magik, so there is no assist call to coordinate, no assist cooldown to manage, and no second character required to extend the combo. That makes the route useful for learning her own timing and for situations in which an assist is unavailable. It also means every drop is directly traceable to Magik’s spacing, timing, or state rather than to an assist entering at the wrong moment.

The route is structured around three changes in momentum. The starter creates the launch opportunity, the delayed Down Heavy keeps the falling opponent at the height needed for the air-to-wall conversion, and the grounded string creates the final Darkchylde cancel. Once transformed, Magik has only a short sequence to spend the state: Heavy Quick Skill, Heavy Back Quick Skill, and the Forward Quick plus Quick Skill Ultimate. Treat the transformation as a resource window, not a visual flourish.

Quick Skills, Command Inputs, and consistency

Quick Skills are the safest way to reproduce the published notation because every timing checkpoint was described using those inputs. They use a single button instead of a motion, which reduces the chance of an accidental direction during a fast jump or side switch. This matters especially at the wall, where Magik can cross through Star-Lord and reverse which side is “forward.”

Command Inputs remain a legitimate option once you understand the route, but they are a separate optimization. PlayStation says they provide slightly more damage and more Skill Gauge. That does not prove they improve this exact combo’s total, because replacing an input can change hit timing or make a link fail. First make the Quick Skill version repeatable; only then test a corresponding motion input and compare the result in the same training setup.

How to practice the route efficiently

Set up a repeatable drill

  1. Open the game’s offline Training Mode and choose Magik.
  2. Set Star-Lord as the training opponent, matching the setup used for the published damage figure.
  3. Keep assists disabled so the drill reflects the no-assist route.
  4. Turn on input display, hit effects, or frame information if your training settings provide them. These overlays help you see whether a directional input was reversed when the characters changed sides.
  5. Reset the position after every attempt. The wall-splat section depends on spacing, so practicing from random positions can hide the real cause of a drop.

PlayStation’s official FAQ lists Training Mode as offline content and states that PS5 offline modes do not require PlayStation Plus. That lets you practice this route without a PlayStation Plus subscription; it does not remove the account or internet requirements for online modes.

Stabilize the route in sections

  1. Starter and launcher: Repeat Medium > Down Medium > Back Quick Skill + Medium, then add the delayed Down Heavy and Forward Quick Skill + Heavy. Do not move on until you can consistently judge the fall height.
  2. Wall conversion: Start from a successful launcher and add Jump Heavy > Forward Quick Skill. Concentrate on the single wall splat rather than rushing into the next string.
  3. Grounded sequence: Add Medium > Heavy > Back Quick Skill + Heavy after the wall hit. Practice stopping immediately after the final hit so you can isolate the transformation.
  4. Darkchylde timing: Add Four Unique + Quick Skill on the last hit of Back Quick Skill + Heavy. Repeat this section until the transformation appears reliably.
  5. Ender: Add Heavy Quick Skill > Heavy Back Quick Skill, then Forward Quick + Quick Skill while Darkchylde is active.
  6. Full attempts: Only after each section is stable, run the entire sequence from the starter. Record which section fails instead of changing several inputs at once.

Use a simple pass-fail checklist

For each attempt, mark four checkpoints: the delayed Down Heavy connects under the falling opponent, the Jump Heavy produces the single wall splat, Darkchylde starts on the last grounded hit, and the Ultimate comes out before the transformation ends. If the first three are successful but the Ultimate fails, do not rebuild the opening; repeat only the Darkchylde extension and ender. This keeps practice focused and prevents a late-state mistake from being mistaken for a starter problem.

Troubleshooting common drops

Symptom Likely cause Adjustment
Down Heavy whiffs beneath Star-Lord The launcher was pressed too early or the starter did not create the expected fall. Let Star-Lord descend farther and confirm the starter before pressing Down Heavy.
Down Heavy hits but Forward Quick Skill + Heavy misses The follow-up was delayed beyond the launcher’s usable window. Buffer the Forward direction and Heavy as the launcher connects, while keeping the delayed Down Heavy timing.
Jump Heavy connects without a wall splat Forward Quick Skill was late, or the spacing after the launcher was wrong. Press Forward Quick Skill during the Jump Heavy conversion and reset to the same starting distance.
The grounded string ends before transformation Four Unique + Quick Skill was omitted or pressed too early. Watch for the last hit of Back Quick Skill + Heavy and press both transformation inputs together at that moment.
Darkchylde activates but the extension drops The transformation was activated too late, leaving insufficient cancel time. Move Four Unique + Quick Skill earlier within the final hit’s connection window.
The Ultimate does not come out Magik is no longer in Darkchylde, or the ender was attempted with the wrong direction. Perform the ender immediately after the Darkchylde extension and verify that Forward points toward Star-Lord.
Inputs appear backward Magik crossed through Star-Lord and her facing direction changed. Read Back and Forward relative to the current facing, not the original screen side.

What the damage number does—and does not—tell you

Nerd’s Chalk reports 74,745 damage against Star-Lord with no assists. The guide presents that as the result of its training demonstration. Damage can vary with the opponent, game version, settings, scaling, hit count, and whether every hit connects at the same position, so the number should not be treated as a universal guarantee.

Use the figure as a consistency check: if your complete route is substantially lower in the same Star-Lord training setup, inspect the delayed launcher, wall conversion, Darkchylde activation, and Ultimate. Do not assume that substituting Command Inputs will preserve the same total; the official guide says those inputs change damage and Skill Gauge behavior.

Magik’s tools in context

PlayStation’s official character guide describes Magik as a close-range fighter who combines the Soulsword with Limbo magic. It also describes Dark Portal as a way to teleport Magik or projectiles around the field. That character context can help you understand her movement and space control, but Dark Portal is not listed as an input in this solo combo and should not be inserted into the route.

The route’s defining resource is the Darkchylde state. The transformation is not cosmetic: the final Heavy Quick Skill, Heavy Back Quick Skill, and Ultimate are sequenced around remaining transformed. If you leave Darkchylde before the ender, the published route no longer applies.

Source and confidence notes

The exact seven-part sequence, its timing advice, no-assist setup, and 74,745-damage result come from Nerd’s Chalk’s guide updated August 17, 2026. That is a secondary demonstration, not an official route confirmation or an independently tested benchmark.

Official PlayStation material supplies the surrounding mechanics: Quick Skills and Command Inputs, light/medium/heavy chains, Skills, Assemble Rush, Magik’s character tools, and Training Mode. The official FAQ supports the offline-practice and PlayStation Plus distinction. Taken together, these sources establish how to interpret and practice the route while leaving the exact long combo at medium confidence until you verify it in your own game version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this really a solo combo, or do I need an assist?

It is the published no-assist route. Every listed attack is Magik’s, and the reported 74,745 damage was demonstrated against Star-Lord with assists disabled.

When exactly should I press Down Heavy?

Do not press it immediately after the starter. Let Star-Lord fall farther, then use Down Heavy and follow with Forward Quick Skill + Heavy. Pressing too early is the guide’s first major drop point.

When should Darkchylde activate?

Press Four Unique + Quick Skill as the final hit of Back Quick Skill + Heavy connects. A late activation leaves too little time for Heavy Quick Skill, Heavy Back Quick Skill, and the Ultimate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I substitute Command Inputs for Quick Skills?

The game supports both. Command Inputs do slightly more damage and generate more Skill Gauge, but the published route is written with Quick Skills. Verify any substitution in Training Mode because timing and cancel behavior can change.

Do I need PlayStation Plus to practice this combo?

No. The official FAQ identifies Training Mode as offline content and says PS5 offline modes do not require PlayStation Plus. Online modes still have their own account and internet requirements.

Is Dark Portal part of the combo?

No. PlayStation describes Dark Portal as one of Magik’s movement and projectile tools, but it is not listed in this route. Adding it changes the sequence rather than improving the published version.

Is 74,745 damage guaranteed?

No. It is Nerd’s Chalk’s result for its Star-Lord, no-assist training demonstration. Opponent, version, settings, scaling, spacing, and missed hits can change the total.

The Bottom Line

Use the Quick Skill route exactly: establish the starter, delay Down Heavy until Star-Lord falls, convert Jump Heavy into the single wall splat, and activate Darkchylde on the final grounded hit. Finish the Darkchylde extension with Forward Quick + Quick Skill for the Ultimate. The reported 74,745 damage is a useful Star-Lord training benchmark, not a universal guarantee.
