What the Mafia III Xbox upgrade includes

How to get the Series X|S version

A disc-based license may also require the original disc as proof of ownership even after a digital installation is available. Treat that as a requirement to verify in Xbox’s instructions, not as a guarantee for every copy. The safest approach is to check the entitlement shown by the store while signed in to the account that owns the game.
Can you transfer an Xbox One save to Xbox Series X|S?
No. 2K states that Xbox One save files cannot be moved to the Series X|S edition. A separate official 2K response dated October 8, 2026, is explicit: “Save Files and Achievements will not transfer over from your old console, to your new console.”
Plan to begin the Series X|S edition without the campaign progress, collectibles, unlocks, or other state stored in the Xbox One edition. The same limitation applies to achievements: achievements earned in the old console edition do not carry into the new edition. Starting the upgraded version is therefore a new progression path, even when both editions are owned by the same account.

This is an edition-to-edition compatibility limit, not an indication that your old Xbox One installation has been deleted. If you want to continue the original save, keep using the Xbox One edition. If you choose the Series X|S version for its performance improvements, make that choice knowing that its progression starts separately.
Does Mafia III run at 60 FPS on Series X|S?
2K advertises “60 FPS gameplay” for the Series X|S edition. That is the clearest published frame-rate statement for the new version. The support article does not describe whether 60 FPS is a fixed target in every scene, whether a performance mode is selectable, or how the frame rate behaves on Series S versus Series X. No independent benchmark is established here, so do not treat the 60 FPS statement as a scene-by-scene test result.
The advertised frame rate is distinct from the Xbox One X specification. In 2017, Hangar 13 executive producer Andy Wilson said the Xbox One X version could use the console’s additional power “at a consistent 30fps without dropping frames.” That quote applies to Xbox One X, not the 2026 Series X|S release.

Does the new version run at 4K?
The official 2K Series X|S upgrade article does not state a resolution. Therefore, the accurate answer is not established by the cited 2026 support information. Do not describe the Series X|S edition as 4K merely because the Xbox One X edition was described as full 4K.

Loading times, fixes, and backward compatibility
2K says the Series X|S edition has improved loading times and that several legacy issues have been fixed. The article does not provide measured loading durations, a list of every corrected issue, or a before-and-after performance test. The practical expectation is a newer build optimized for current Xbox hardware, but the exact improvement will vary with the console and scene.
The Xbox One edition and the Series X|S edition should be treated as separate products for save and achievement purposes. Owning the older version gives you the upgrade route described above; it does not create a shared progression file between editions.
Can you play Mafia III offline?
