A red or full-looking partition in Macrium Reflect is not, by itself, proof that Windows is broken or that the partition needs resizing. The matching user discussion concerned a likely Windows recovery partition, but neither the post nor the available Macrium material establishes exactly what Reflect’s indicator means or how it calculates the display. Check the partition and Windows recovery status before changing anything.
What does a full-looking partition in Reflect mean?
The exact-match discussion describes a red bar on partition 4, which the poster believed was the recovery partition; Disk Management showed that partition as 100% free. A respondent said that this was normal for a Recovery partition, but that is a forum opinion, not an official Macrium explanation or a verified diagnosis of the screenshot. The thread does not establish the Reflect version or the indicator’s threshold or calculation. Read the ElevenForum discussion.
Macrium’s available knowledge-base material addresses partition properties and resizing in clone or restore tasks, but does not explain the red/full indicator described in the thread. Do not infer a particular free-space percentage or warning condition from the color alone. See Macrium’s partition-properties guidance.

What should you check before taking action?
- Identify the partition. In Windows Disk Management, confirm which partition is being displayed and whether it is the recovery partition. Avoid deleting, formatting, or resizing a partition based only on its color in Reflect.
- Check Windows Recovery Environment status. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run
reagentc /info. Review whether Windows RE is enabled and the reported location. This check helps establish whether the partition is serving as the Windows recovery environment; it does not explain Reflect’s visual indicator. - Look for a specific Windows servicing or update failure. A visual display alone is not evidence of a WinRE problem. Microsoft says insufficient recovery-partition space can cause some WinRE servicing failures. If Windows reports a relevant failure, use the Microsoft procedure only when your Windows version and partition layout meet its stated scope.
When does recovery-partition space matter?
Microsoft’s KB5028997 describes a manual WinRE partition-resizing procedure for a specific scenario. Its applicability depends on the listed Windows versions and layout; among its conditions, the recovery partition must be after the OS partition. The procedure changes the partition layout and includes disabling and re-enabling WinRE, so it is not a general remedy for a red bar in backup software. Check Microsoft’s KB5028997 instructions and scope.

A separate Microsoft notice dated July 16, 2026 says the update covered by KB5120221 requires 250 MB of free space in the recovery partition to install successfully. That figure applies to that named update, not as a universal target for every recovery partition. Read Microsoft’s KB5120221 notice.
Should you resize the partition?
Do not resize it just because Reflect makes it look full. Consider Microsoft’s documented procedure only if Windows has a relevant WinRE servicing problem, your Windows version is covered, and your partition arrangement matches the procedure. The ElevenForum thread later discussed resizing recovery and EFI partitions, and the poster reported completing partition work; it does not show that the red bar required those changes. For the exact Reflect indicator, the available evidence does not establish a definitive interpretation.
