Apple’s macOS 27, called Golden Gate, makes Siri more capable in three notable ways: it can search personal context on a Mac, take actions in apps, and work with what is visible onscreen through Visual Intelligence. Apple also describes more natural conversations and a dedicated Siri app, but availability and usage limits apply.
What are the three Siri upgrades in macOS 27?
Apple’s feature descriptions point to three practical changes: Siri can look for information in a user’s own content, act within apps, and respond to onscreen material. These are advertised capabilities, not a guarantee that every request will work in every app or situation.
1. Search across personal context
Siri can search personal context such as photos, email, and notes. That makes it possible to ask about information already on the Mac rather than relying only on a general web search. Apple does not claim that Siri will always identify the right item or understand every request.
2. Take actions in apps
Apple says Siri can take actions in apps and respond to current activity. In practice, that is intended to move beyond giving an answer toward helping complete a task. The feature page does not establish that every app supports every action.

3. Understand what is onscreen
Visual Intelligence can use a screenshot of an image or PDF onscreen to answer questions, search, or take action. This gives Siri a way to work from material currently in view, rather than requiring the user to describe it from scratch.
What else is changing in Siri and macOS 27?
Apple describes natural-language conversation and the ability to ask questions using online information. Siri can also continue conversations through a dedicated app. Beyond Siri, macOS 27 highlights next-generation Apple Intelligence features in Photos, Messages, and Safari, refinements to Liquid Glass, and broader responsiveness improvements. Apple does not provide a named performance statistic in the cited feature materials, so those system improvements should not be read as a measured speed claim.
Will my Mac run macOS 27?
MacRumors reported that macOS 27 requires Apple silicon with an M1 chip or newer and does not support Intel Macs. Its compatibility list includes these models and generations:

Because the reported macOS 27 requirements exclude Intel Macs, those computers cannot install this major release. MacRumors also reports that macOS 27 is the last major macOS release to include Apple’s full Rosetta translation layer for running Intel apps on Apple silicon, and that Intel Macs will continue to receive security updates for three years. Treat the security-update period as secondary reporting, not as a direct Apple commitment. If an Intel-only app is central to your work, consider its migration path before moving to an Apple silicon Mac or changing your workflow.
Are Siri AI and Visual Intelligence available to everyone?
Apple says Siri AI is rolling out in English and that usage limits may apply. The feature descriptions do not establish universal availability across languages, accounts, regions, or requests. Before relying on these tools, check Apple’s current availability details for your setup.
