The 2022 13-inch MacBook Air with M2, model A2681, remains a capable option to consider if you find a well-kept unit at a price that reflects its age. Its strengths include a sharp 13.6-inch display, MagSafe charging, and a fanless design; its main compromises are a small port selection and native support for only one external display. Whether it is a good purchase now depends on the exact configuration, battery health, condition, and current price—not just the M2 name.
What is model A2681?
Apple identifies this computer as the MacBook Air (M2, 2022). ENERGY STAR’s product record names the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (M2) as model A2681 and lists an 8-core Apple M2 configuration. It is a prior-generation model: Apple’s current Mac comparison page includes later Air generations, so assess A2681 against the alternatives available when you shop rather than treating it as the current Air.
Configurations differ, which matters when comparing listings. Apple lists an 8-core CPU with four performance cores and four efficiency cores, an 8-core GPU in the base configuration, and an optional 10-core GPU. The M2 also has a 16-core Neural Engine and 100 GB/s memory bandwidth. Listed unified-memory options are 8 GB, 16 GB, and 24 GB; storage ranges from 256 GB to 2 TB.
A listing that says only “M2 MacBook Air” is not enough to establish value. Confirm the A2681 model, memory, storage, GPU configuration where stated, and whether it is used, refurbished, or new old stock. Those details—and the unit’s condition—can change how suitable it is for your workload.

What is the screen and design like?
Apple specifies a 13.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit IPS Liquid Retina display with a native resolution of 2560 × 1664, 224 pixels per inch, and 500 nits brightness. It supports P3 wide color, True Tone, and one billion colors. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.
Apple’s June 2022 launch announcement describes an 11.3 mm-thin aluminum enclosure weighing 2.7 pounds. It also highlights a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a four-speaker system, and a fanless design. The fanless construction means there is no fan noise, though this fact alone does not establish how the laptop performs during sustained heavy workloads.

How long does the battery last?
Apple rates the battery for up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 18 hours of Apple TV app movie playback. Those are manufacturer test results, not guaranteed everyday runtimes. Apple says testing was conducted in May 2022 on pre-production 13-inch M2 systems with an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 8 GB of memory, and a 256 GB SSD. The web test browsed 25 popular websites; the movie test used HD 1080p playback. For both, display brightness was set eight clicks from the bottom. Apple notes that battery life varies with use and configuration.

- SILENT DESIGN — MacBook Air features a fanless design that runs completely silent, no matter the task.
Which ports and displays does it support?
The laptop has MagSafe 3, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports. Apple lists support for charging, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt 3 up to 40 Gb/s, USB 4 up to 40 Gb/s, and USB 3.1 Gen 2 up to 10 Gb/s. MagSafe lets you charge while leaving both Thunderbolt ports available for accessories.
Apple specifies support for one external display at up to 6K resolution and 60 Hz. If your setup requires two or more external displays, do not assume a hub will change the computer’s native display limit. A hub or adapter can provide other connector types, but check compatibility with your current macOS version and devices before choosing one.

What can you expect from M2 performance?
The listed configuration and the task matter more than the chip name alone. Apple describes the M2 as having an 8-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, 100 GB/s memory bandwidth, and a media engine with ProRes encode and decode support. These are manufacturer specifications and launch claims, not independent benchmark results.
No independent benchmark scores, thermal measurements, sustained-load testing, or current software-compatibility tests are established here. That means there is not enough evidence to quantify how A2681 performs against another laptop or to give a workload-specific speed verdict. For a demanding workflow, look for tests that identify the exact memory, storage, and GPU configuration, software versions, workload, and comparison machine.

How to judge an A2681 listing
Because this is a 2022 model and current prices and inventory have not been verified, make the decision around the particular unit rather than a general claim that it is a bargain. Compare it with the current alternatives and listings you can actually buy.
- Verify identity and configuration: Confirm model A2681, memory, storage, and GPU configuration. Do not assume all M2 listings have the same specifications.
- Check condition and battery: Review the seller’s description, battery-health information, warranty, and return terms. Ask for clarification if these are missing.
- Match it to your workload: Consider whether the configuration meets your memory and storage needs, and whether one external display and the available ports are sufficient.
- Compare the complete offer: Weigh price against the unit’s condition and configuration, plus the age of the model and the warranty or return protection. Check current macOS support directly before buying; a support end date is not established here.
Apple’s Mac comparison page shows later Air generations for context. Apple’s MacBook Air (M2, 2022) technical specifications provides the model’s listed specifications, while the June 6, 2022 launch announcement describes its design and launch-era features.
