You can make Windows 11 feel more like a Mac by combining its built-in theme settings with desktop skins and, if needed, app-specific window effects. There is no single Windows theme that turns the whole system into macOS, and Windows’ Mica material is softly tinted and wallpaper-aware—not clear glass. Start with reversible settings, then add optional effects only where you want them.
What a “Mac theme with glass effect” means on Windows 11
A Windows theme coordinates supported personalization options; it does not replace Windows or restyle every app. For a Mac-inspired desktop, separate the job into three parts: the wallpaper, colors and other theme elements; desktop widgets or overlays; and the frames or backgrounds of particular application windows.
Windows 11’s Mica material can give supported windows a subtle, wallpaper-aware appearance. Microsoft describes Mica as opaque: it uses a wallpaper capture for its visualization and adapts as a window moves. That is different from transparent glass or blur. The appearance also depends on the app’s implementation and Windows settings. Microsoft’s Mica guidance explains its behavior and intended use.
Apply the built-in Windows 11 theme first
- Open Settings > Personalization > Themes.
- Select an included theme, or choose the option to browse themes in Microsoft Store if you want to try another one.
- Use the theme’s available personalization controls to adjust the background, color, sounds and cursor. A restrained wallpaper and coordinated colors can create a Mac-like feel without changing system files.
- To enable the system transparency option, open Settings > Personalization > Colors and turn on Transparency effects, if that setting is available in your Windows build.
Microsoft documents the theme controls in its Windows personalization guide. Transparency effects are not a command to make every app window transparent: individual apps and materials determine what appears, and Mica may fall back when transparency is turned off.

Add desktop widgets or overlays with Rainmeter
Rainmeter lets you place desktop skins—such as clocks, system information or launchers—over the wallpaper. It changes the desktop layer, not the window frame of every application, so treat it as a way to add desktop elements rather than a system-wide glass effect.
- Install Rainmeter from its official project site, then choose a skin from a source you trust.
- Load the skin and position it to suit your desktop. To change one skin’s transparency, right-click that skin and use its Settings > Transparency option.
- Before making extensive changes, back up both your Rainmeter layout/settings and the skin files. Rainmeter’s manual covers skins, settings and backup-related details.
Use optional window effects only for supported areas
If the built-in appearance is not glass-like enough, third-party utilities can style particular windows or interface areas. Their coverage is specific to the selected mod, app and configuration—not a universal conversion of Windows 11 into macOS.

Windhawk documents its Translucent Windows mod and File Explorer Styler mod, including effect choices and fallback behavior. Its Explorer styling documentation notes fallback when transparency is off or battery saver is active. Mica For Everyone’s project page describes its supported Win32 targets and identifies its GitHub repository and Microsoft Store as its official download channels.
Test the look and undo problem effects
Change one thing at a time so it is clear which setting or mod caused an issue. Check the apps you use most, including windows arranged side by side and maximized. Look for blur bleeding at window edges, low-contrast text, or controls that are difficult to see.

- If a Windows effect makes content harder to read, turn off Transparency effects in Settings > Personalization > Colors.
- If an optional mod causes visual problems, disable or remove that mod and restart or refresh the affected app as needed.
- If a Rainmeter skin is the problem, unload it; restore the saved layout or skin files if you want to return to your previous setup.
