For the least compatibility trouble, have everyone use Lucky Block Challenge 2.1.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, then install the matching LuckyBlockChallenge+Server-[2.1.0] package for a persistent world. Choose a race map for direct competition or a skyblock map for a shared, constrained-survival challenge, and keep the Minecraft version, loader, pack release and map files aligned on every machine.
What Lucky Block Challenge is
Lucky Block Challenge is a fantasy modpack based on the Lucky Block mod. Its central idea is to play custom Lucky Block maps either alone or with friends. The project is categorized for multiplayer, adventure and RPG, exploration, and combat/PvP, so it is designed for more than a single-player test world.

Two named formats are Lucky Block race and Lucky Block skyblock. A race map gives players a direct finish-line contest; skyblock puts the group in a restricted survival environment where progress depends on managing limited space and resources. The pack is therefore best treated as a map-driven multiplayer experience rather than as a general-purpose collection of unrelated mods.
CurseForge reported 1,864,679 downloads in 2026. That number indicates substantial use, but it does not guarantee that two downloads are compatible: the exact Minecraft version, mod loader and pack release still have to match.

Which Minecraft and NeoForge version should everyone use?
Use the current main release identified in the project files: LuckyBlockChallenge-[2.1.0] for Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge. For a dedicated server, pair it with LuckyBlockChallenge+Server-[2.1.0]. Record that complete combination before anyone installs anything.
Modrinth also lists the project for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 and 1.16.5, with Forge and NeoForge environments and both client and server entries. Those listings do not mean that a 1.16.5 client can join a 1.21.1 server, or that a Forge installation can join a NeoForge installation. Treat 1.16.5 and Forge as separate compatibility targets, not as optional components to mix with the current 2.1.0 NeoForge release.

The safe rule is simple: the client profile and server must agree on all four identifiers—Minecraft version, loader, modpack release and installed content. If one participant selects a different file merely because the title looks similar, connection errors or missing-content problems are likely.
Prepare the group before installing
Decide how the session will run before downloading files. A temporary world hosted by one player is suitable for a short event; a dedicated server is better when the world must remain available while the original host is offline. Whichever method you choose, make one person responsible for writing down the exact release and distributing the same choices to the group.

- Choose the target: Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge and Lucky Block Challenge 2.1.0 are the clearest current baseline.
- Choose the map format: race for head-to-head competition or skyblock for constrained survival. Decide whether players are cooperating, competing, or forming teams before the map is opened.
- Choose the hosting method: a persistent world requires the paired server package; a short local session can use a player-hosted world if the pack and network setup support it.
- Write down the release: keep the exact client file name and server file name in your group chat or setup notes.
- Reserve a clean directory: keep the server files and world separate from other Minecraft installations so an older loader or configuration is not accidentally reused.
Install the client pack for every player
Each participant needs a Java Edition client profile containing the same Lucky Block Challenge release. Download the pack from the official project listing on CurseForge or Modrinth; avoid assembling individual mods by hand when a complete pack file is available.
- Open the official project page in the launcher or app you use to manage modpacks. Search for Lucky Block Challenge and verify that the publisher and project name are correct.
- Select the 1.21.1 NeoForge release. Confirm that the file is LuckyBlockChallenge-[2.1.0], not an older 1.16.5 entry or a file built for another loader.
- Install the profile. Let the launcher create a separate instance rather than replacing an existing vanilla or modded profile. This prevents unrelated mods from being silently added to the challenge.
- Launch once without joining a server. The first launch lets the loader create configuration folders and reveals a missing dependency or failed download before the scheduled multiplayer session.
- Check the profile details. The launcher should show Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge and the 2.1.0 pack. If it shows Forge, 1.16.5 or a different release, remove that profile and install the intended file again.
- Share the exact file identity with the group. Have every player compare the displayed version before anyone connects. Screenshots of the profile details are useful when several similar entries appear in a launcher.
Do not copy a working client’s entire configuration directory to another player as a shortcut. Configuration changes, local key bindings and cached files can differ; the important requirement is that the actual pack and loader match.

Set up a persistent multiplayer server
The project publishes a server package paired with the current release. For the 1.21.1 NeoForge target, download LuckyBlockChallenge+Server-[2.1.0], not the ordinary client archive. A server package is intended to provide the server-side files and structure; using a client archive as a server often leaves the installation incomplete.
- Create a new server folder. Use a folder dedicated to this world and keep it separate from other modpacks. Do not place two Lucky Block Challenge releases in the same directory.
- Download the matching server file. Verify all three identifiers—1.21.1, NeoForge and 2.1.0—before extracting or launching anything.
- Extract the package as delivered. Preserve its folder structure and included launch files. Renaming individual mods or moving them into a different pack makes later troubleshooting harder.
- Run the supplied server launcher or startup script. On the first start, Minecraft normally creates the server configuration and requires the operator to accept the EULA in the generated file before the server can continue. Follow the instructions included with the package rather than substituting a launcher from another Minecraft version.
- Start the server again after accepting the EULA. Wait for the console to report that the world is ready before asking players to connect. Stop the server from its console so the world data is saved cleanly.
- Choose and install the map. Select the intended Lucky Block race or skyblock map before the first group session. Keep a backup of the untouched world if the map is supplied separately or if you want to replay it later.
- Give players the connection details privately. The server address and any network settings are specific to your host; do not publish them in a public post unless you intentionally want an open server.
- Test with one client first. Join using the same 1.21.1 NeoForge 2.1.0 profile. Resolve version or map errors before inviting the full group.
For a server that will be restarted regularly, keep a written record of the pack version, map name and any configuration changes. Updating only the server or only the clients can make a previously working world inaccessible, so schedule upgrades as a group and retain a backup before changing releases.

Choose the right map for your group
The official project description confirms race and skyblock as examples; it does not publish a universal player limit, guaranteed session duration or fixed PvP rules for every map. Use the following criteria to choose a format, then read the instructions bundled with the particular map you install.

Use race when the group wants a decisive contest
Race maps work well when players have roughly the same amount of play time and want a visible finish condition. Agree on whether players may attack one another, take items from another lane, or restart after a bad Lucky Block result. If the group includes new players, explain the route and any map-specific rules before the countdown; the random rewards are more enjoyable when everyone understands what counts as fair play.

Use skyblock when the group wants a shared survival problem
Skyblock is a better choice when the fun comes from planning, limited resources and gradual expansion rather than from reaching a finish line first. Decide whether the objective is a shared build, a list of milestones or a race between islands. Because a single mistake can remove an important resource, make a world backup before the first session and agree on whether restoring it is allowed.
Evaluate randomness and session length
Lucky Block outcomes introduce uncertainty, but the amount of randomness depends on the map design and settings. A short race can be replayed when an unlucky opening ruins one run; a long skyblock world may need more conservative rules and regular backups. These are group-planning decisions, not published specifications of the modpack, so set expectations with the players who will actually attend.

Keep clients and server aligned
Every participant should use the same client pack, while the server should use the matching server package. Alignment includes more than the Minecraft number shown on the launcher.
- Minecraft: all machines must target the same release, such as 1.21.1.
- Loader: NeoForge clients belong with a NeoForge server; a Forge listing is a separate target.
- Pack release: use 2.1.0 everywhere when the server is running the 2.1.0 package.
- Map and content: install the same map version and required content on the server and clients.
- World state: keep backups before changing maps, configurations or pack versions.
Do not “fix” a join failure by adding random mods to one client. First compare the profile and server file names. An apparently harmless extra mod can create a different mod list and make the original problem more difficult to identify.
Troubleshoot common multiplayer failures
The client cannot connect because versions do not match
Close the game and compare the client profile with the server folder. Check Minecraft 1.21.1 versus 1.16.5, NeoForge versus Forge, and 2.1.0 versus another pack release. Reinstall the exact project file if any one of those values differs. The server operator should not update the server alone while players continue using the old profile.
The launcher installed the wrong loader
Some project pages expose both Forge and NeoForge entries. Delete the incorrect profile and create a new one from the 1.21.1 NeoForge file. Do not attempt to replace the loader by renaming files; the loader and its generated profile are part of the installation.

The server starts, but the map is missing
Verify that the map was installed in the server world as instructed by its own package and that the server was restarted after the files were added. Check that the client is also running the corresponding map or content files. If the project page offers more than one map variant, select the same variant in the server notes and the player instructions.
The game crashes during the first launch
Run the clean profile by itself before changing anything. Confirm that the profile is the official 2.1.0 release for 1.21.1 NeoForge, then remove unrelated mods or copied configuration files. If the clean profile still fails, reinstall the pack from the official project page and retain the launcher log for the project’s support channel; changing several files at once hides the cause.

Only one player has a problem
Ask that player to compare the profile version, loader and installed map files with a working participant. A separate instance folder is often safer than repairing a heavily modified installation. The player should also launch the profile once locally so missing downloads are completed before trying the server again.
The server world became unusable after an update
Stop the server and restore the last known-good world backup. Put the server and all clients back on the previous matching release, then test the world before attempting another upgrade. Treat pack changes as a planned migration, not as a one-sided file replacement.
Hosting, sharing and licence boundaries
The project’s Packs License states: “You may also use the Modpack to host private or public Minecraft Servers without restriction.” It also permits content creation. That permission covers running a server and publishing videos or streams about your play, but it does not remove the other licence conditions.
- Official CurseForge and Modrinth access to the pack is free.
- Charging users for access to the pack itself is prohibited by the stated licence terms.
- Reuploading, redistributing, altering or modifying the modpack and its assets is restricted without permission.
- When sharing setup instructions, point players to the official project listings instead of uploading a replacement archive.
If you operate a public server, explain any separate server rules, donations or cosmetic arrangements clearly and keep them distinct from charging for access to the modpack files. Read the current licence text before redistributing maps, modified configurations or extracted assets.

A practical launch checklist
- Every player has the same Lucky Block Challenge 2.1.0 client profile.
- Every player is on Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge.
- The dedicated server, if used, runs LuckyBlockChallenge+Server-[2.1.0].
- The group has selected either race or skyblock and agreed on PvP, teams and restart rules.
- The server has been started once, configured as required and tested with one client.
- A clean world backup exists before the first serious session.
- Players know where to obtain the official project files and have not mixed Forge, NeoForge, 1.16.5 and 1.21.1 installations.
- Any public hosting or content-sharing plan follows the project’s licence restrictions.
