No. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art presents visual storytelling across forms; Star Wars is one recognizable part of its opening program, not the museum’s sole subject. Its inaugural exhibitions span more than 30 galleries and include more than 1,300 works, while a dedicated cinema installation explores vehicles from the first six Star Wars films.

What is the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art about?

The museum describes its purpose as celebrating visual storytelling and narrative art. That focus reaches beyond any single franchise: the opening program brings together works across galleries and media to explore how images tell stories.

The scale figures refer to different things. The museum’s opening announcement describes more than 30 galleries, 100,000 square feet of space and more than 1,300 works in the inaugural exhibitions. A separate 2025 announcement says the permanent collection holds more than 40,000 works. The inaugural-exhibition figure is not a count of the full collection.

What Star Wars material is on view?

Star Wars in Motion

The inaugural cinema gallery installation, Star Wars in Motion, draws on works from the Lucas Archives and focuses on land vehicles seen in the first six films. It is a defined, focused presentation within the opening program—not evidence that Star Wars accounts for a particular share of the museum’s galleries or collection.

The installation’s vehicle-design focus offers a way to consider how imagined machines contribute to visual storytelling. The museum’s wider premise, however, is broader than the stories and objects associated with Star Wars.
