The wired Logitech G502 X is a lighter, feature-rich take on the G502 formula: it weighs 89 g, connects over USB, and combines a HERO 25K sensor with Logitech’s LIGHTFORCE hybrid optical-mechanical switches. Its main advantages are configurable controls and a versatile scroll wheel; its clearest tradeoff is that it is wired. Whether its weight, shape, and buttons suit you depends on your preferences.

Logitech G502 X pros and cons at a glance

Pros Cons and tradeoffs
  • At 89 g, it is lighter than the older G502 HERO and G502 LIGHTSPEED models in Logitech’s comparison.
  • The DPI-Shift button can be repositioned or replaced with a blank cover.
  • The scroll wheel switches between free-spinning and ratcheted modes, and tilts left and right for programmable controls.
  • It has a HERO 25K optical sensor with a listed range of 100–25,600 DPI.
  • LIGHTFORCE combines optical and mechanical actuation, according to Logitech.
  • It connects over USB, so it is not a wireless option.
  • Its lighter weight and shape will not suit every hand or play style.
  • Some of its configurable controls may take setup, and are useful only if you want those shortcuts.
  • Its specifications do not establish better competitive performance, lower fatigue, or greater long-term reliability.

What are the advantages of the Logitech G502 X?

A lighter G502 design

Logitech lists the wired G502 X at 89 g and positions the X line as lighter than the older G502 HERO and G502 LIGHTSPEED models. That makes it worth considering if you like the G502 feature set but want a lighter mouse. It does not mean the mouse will feel better or reduce fatigue for every user; weight preference is personal.

Flexible buttons and scroll wheel

The DPI-Shift button can be repositioned, and Logitech includes a blank cover for users who would rather block it to help avoid accidental presses. The wheel can toggle between free-spinning and ratcheted scrolling. It also tilts left and right, providing two additional controls that Logitech says can be programmed.

These options are most useful if you want to assign shortcuts or adjust the controls to your preferences. If you do not plan to configure them, they may add complexity without much practical benefit. Logitech Support lists G HUB as supported at release; check current support information if software setup is important to your decision.

Documented sensor and switch specifications

Logitech Support lists a HERO 25K optical sensor with a resolution range of 100–25,600 DPI, maximum acceleration above 40 G, and maximum tracking speed above 400 IPS. These are manufacturer specifications, not proof that the mouse will outperform another model in a particular game.

Logitech describes LIGHTFORCE as a hybrid optical-mechanical switch design. The company says optical actuation aims to provide speed and reliability while mechanical actuation supplies tactile feedback. Those are Logitech’s product claims; the specifications alone do not establish independent click-latency or durability results, or whether the click feel will suit you.

What are the downsides of the G502 X?

It is wired

The G502 X connects over USB. The cable may affect desk placement and routing, and the wired model should not be confused with its separate wireless sibling, the G502 X LIGHTSPEED. Logitech advertises up to 140 hours of battery life for the LIGHTSPEED model; that figure applies to the wireless sibling, not the wired G502 X.

The lighter weight and shape are not universal advantages

If you prefer a heavier mouse or want to adjust its weight manually, the G502 X may be a poor match. Logitech’s comparison notes that older G502 HERO and LIGHTSPEED models retain manual weight tuning and traditional mechanical switches. That is a product distinction, not evidence that one design is more comfortable for everyone. Logitech lists the wired G502 X dimensions as 131.4 × 41.1 × 79.2 mm; consider the shape and fit alongside its weight.

Features do not guarantee better results

A high DPI ceiling, programmable controls, and a hybrid switch design describe what the mouse offers, but do not by themselves show how it will perform for you. The official specifications do not settle questions such as actual fatigue over long sessions, competitive results, or long-term reliability. Those depend on use and preference, and should not be inferred from the feature list.

G502 X wired vs. LIGHTSPEED and older G502 models

Model Connection Weight and tuning Switches Sensor
G502 X USB wired, according to Logitech Support. 89 g; manual weight tuning not stated for this model by the cited sources. LIGHTFORCE hybrid optical-mechanical switches. HERO 25K.
G502 X LIGHTSPEED Wireless; Logitech advertises up to 140 hours of battery life. Not stated in the cited sources. LIGHTFORCE hybrid optical-mechanical switches, according to Logitech’s product comparison. HERO 25K, according to Logitech’s comparison.

Is the Logitech G502 X worth it?

The wired G502 X is a sensible option to consider if you want a lighter G502 with configurable controls and do not mind a USB cable. The wheel modes, tilt inputs, and adjustable DPI-Shift button are concrete reasons to choose it if you expect to use them. If wireless use is essential, compare the separate G502 X LIGHTSPEED; if you prefer a heavier, manually tunable G502 with traditional mechanical switches, Logitech’s older models offer those distinctions. No specification can decide which shape or click feel you will prefer.
