Logitech Flow and ChromeOS Phone Hub solve different cross-device problems. Flow lets one compatible Logitech mouse—and, optionally, a linked Logitech keyboard—control two or three computers, with clipboard copying between them. Phone Hub connects a Chromebook to an Android phone so selected phone functions appear on the Chromebook, including notifications, Chrome tabs, recent photos, quick commands and, on eligible devices, streamed phone apps.

Choose Flow when you want shared input across computers. Choose Phone Hub when you want phone information and actions available from your Chromebook. Neither is a substitute for the other: Flow is not a phone companion, and Phone Hub does not make one mouse and keyboard control several computers.

Logitech Flow and Phone Hub at a glance

Question Logitech Flow ChromeOS Phone Hub
What is connected? Two or three computers, depending on the mouse’s Easy-Switch capacity. One Chromebook and an Android phone.
Primary job Move mouse and optional keyboard control between computers. Use selected phone functions from the Chromebook.
What appears or moves? Pointer, keyboard input and, when enabled, copied text, images and files. Phone status, notifications, Chrome tabs, recent photos, quick commands and eligible app streams.
Software or settings Logi Options+ on each computer, paired hardware and a common network. ChromeOS connected-device settings, Bluetooth pairing and extra permissions for app streaming.
Offline behavior Network-dependent; discovery and switching can fail without a usable network connection. Google says Phone Hub features can still be used when the Chromebook is offline, although app streaming has additional requirements.
Typical limitation Direct drag-and-drop file transfer is not supported; large clipboard transfers can take minutes. App streaming is limited to selected devices and Android 13 or later, and DRM can affect entertainment apps.

This distinction matters because the products operate at different layers. Flow redirects input between computers. Phone Hub exposes a controlled set of phone services inside ChromeOS.

What can Logitech Flow do?

Control multiple computers from one desk

With Flow enabled, move the pointer to the edge of one computer’s screen and it crosses to the next computer. You can instead require holding Ctrl while reaching the edge, which helps prevent accidental switching. A compatible mouse can be configured for two or three computers, subject to its Easy-Switch channel count.

A supported Logitech keyboard can be linked to the mouse. When the mouse changes computers through Flow, the keyboard follows, so typing goes to the computer currently receiving the pointer. The exact mouse and keyboard models, operating systems and Logi Options+ version determine whether this arrangement is supported; verify the individual model documentation before buying hardware.

Copy and paste text, images and files

Flow can carry clipboard content between the computers when copy and paste is enabled. Copy text, an image or a file on the first computer, switch with Flow, then paste on the second. The transfer uses the network, so speed depends on network conditions. Logitech warns that a large file may take minutes to arrive.

Flow is not a general file-management system. Logitech says dragging a file directly from one computer to another is unsupported. After a file is pasted, the receiving computer also needs an application capable of opening that file type. For large or repeated transfers, use a dedicated storage or synchronization method instead of treating Flow as a high-speed file-share.

  1. Install Logi Options+. Install the current Logi Options+ application on each participating computer. Flow is configured inside that application rather than only from the operating system’s Bluetooth panel.
  2. Pair the mouse with each computer. Use separate Easy-Switch channels and connect through Bluetooth or a compatible receiver. Complete pairing on one computer before moving to the next.
  3. Connect the computers to one network. The computers need to be on the same wired or wireless network so Flow can discover and communicate with them. A workplace network may block the discovery traffic Flow needs.
  4. Enable Flow on every computer. In Logi Options+, open the mouse’s Flow settings and turn the feature on for each computer. Arrange the on-screen computer positions so the pointer crosses at the intended edge.
  5. Choose the switching behavior. Set whether simply reaching the screen edge switches computers or whether Ctrl must be held while reaching it.
  6. Link a supported keyboard, if applicable. Add the keyboard through the Flow configuration so it follows the mouse. Confirm that the keyboard is paired to each computer on its own channel.
  7. Turn on copy and paste only if needed. Enable the clipboard option in Flow, then test a small text snippet before attempting an image or file.
  8. Test each direction. Move the pointer across both boundaries, type in a text field on each computer and paste a small file. This catches incorrect screen arrangement, pairing or firewall restrictions before you depend on the setup.

Flow troubleshooting and practical limits

The computers do not discover each other

  • Confirm that Logi Options+ is installed and Flow is enabled on every computer, not just the computer where the mouse was first paired.
  • Check that both computers are connected to the same wired or wireless network. Guest Wi-Fi, isolated wireless clients and workplace security rules can prevent discovery.
  • Temporarily check firewall or endpoint-security rules with your administrator. Do not disable workplace protections permanently; ask whether Flow traffic can be allowed instead.

Switching works only sometimes

Logitech says Flow may not work when a computer is asleep, sitting at a login screen or disconnected from the network. Wake and sign in to the target computer, reconnect it, and wait for network access before testing again. If the machine changes networks or resumes from sleep, reopening Logi Options+ or toggling Flow can force a fresh connection.

Clipboard transfer is slow or fails

Start with plain text. If text works but an image or file does not, the payload may be large, the network may be congested, or the receiving computer may not have a suitable application. Logitech’s documented behavior is copy and paste—not direct drag-and-drop—and large files can take minutes. Keep the source computer awake until the paste completes.

Enhanced Easy-Switch is not the same as Flow

Logitech documents Enhanced Easy-Switch as a separate feature. Its purpose is to make a supported mouse follow a supported keyboard when you switch computers with the keyboard’s Easy-Switch key. Logitech’s Enhanced Easy-Switch guide says setup requires manually pairing both devices with each computer and installing Logi Options+ on the receiving computers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The guide currently lists Windows and macOS support for Enhanced Easy-Switch and expressly says it does not support copying and pasting text or files. Switching with the mouse’s Easy-Switch button does not make the keyboard follow. Do not use Enhanced Easy-Switch documentation to promise Flow clipboard transfer, and do not assume a Flow-capable combination has current ChromeOS support: the cited Logitech material does not provide a current ChromeOS compatibility matrix for a particular mouse-and-keyboard pair.

What does Phone Hub do on a Chromebook?

Google describes Phone Hub as a way to use selected phone features from the Chromebook screen. Its Phone Hub setup and use guide lists these functions:

  • Phone status: Check the phone’s signal and battery information.
  • Quick commands: Use actions such as enabling the phone’s hotspot, silencing the phone or locating it.
  • Chrome tabs: Browse tabs recently open in Chrome on the Android phone.
  • Notifications: Control and sync supported phone notifications on the Chromebook.
  • Recent photos and screenshots: View or download recent images from the phone.
  • App streaming: On selected compatible devices, interact with Android phone apps from the Chromebook.

These are phone-companion functions, not remote control of another computer. Phone Hub does not route a mouse and keyboard between multiple computers and does not provide Flow-style cross-computer clipboard transfer.

Phone Hub requirements and app-streaming qualifications

Minimum versions in Google’s Phone Hub guide

For the features covered by the Phone Hub guide, Google states a Chromebook running ChromeOS M89 or later and an Android phone running Android 5.1 or later. Keep these requirements attached to that guide’s feature set; they are not a universal minimum for every connected-phone capability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

App streaming is a narrower feature

Google says app streaming is available on selected devices running Android 13 or later and requires additional setup and permissions. Availability therefore depends on the exact Chromebook and phone combination, not just the version numbers. Entertainment applications can also behave differently because digital-rights-management policies may block or limit streaming.

Phone Hub can remain useful offline, with a boundary

Google says Phone Hub features can still be used when the Chromebook is offline. That does not remove the requirements for the phone connection or make app streaming universally available; streaming has its own device, permission and connectivity conditions.

Set up and verify Phone Hub

  1. Check the versions. Confirm the Chromebook meets the Phone Hub guide’s ChromeOS M89 minimum and the Android phone runs Android 5.1 or later. For app streaming, check whether the devices are among the selected combinations supporting Android 13 or later.
  2. Open connected-device settings. On the Chromebook, open Settings and the Connected devices area, then choose the option to set up or connect an Android phone. The labels can vary slightly by ChromeOS release.
  3. Pair the phone. Keep Bluetooth enabled and follow the pairing prompts on both devices. Use the same Google account where the setup requests it and approve the permissions needed for notifications, photos, tabs or other selected features.
  4. Open Phone Hub from the shelf. After pairing, select the Phone Hub icon on the Chromebook shelf or status area to view the available controls. The controls shown depend on the phone, Chromebook, account and administrator policy.
  5. Enable only the services you need. Turn on notification sync, recent-photo access, tab sharing or quick commands individually. For app streaming, complete the additional on-screen permissions and keep the phone available as requested.
  6. Test a low-risk function first. Check the phone battery or open a recent tab before enabling broader notification or photo access. If an option is missing, verify device eligibility and management restrictions rather than assuming pairing failed.

Connected-phone features documented separately from Phone Hub

Google’s broader connected Android phone guide lists additional capabilities: chat-notification syncing, sending and receiving text messages on the Chromebook, photo syncing, connecting the Chromebook to the phone’s network and unlocking the Chromebook with the phone.

That guide gives different minimums—ChromeOS 71 and Android 6—because it covers a broader connected-phone system rather than only the Phone Hub feature list. Do not present either pair of versions as a universal requirement for every function. Work or school management can also block connected-phone features, even when the hardware and software versions qualify.

Can Flow and Phone Hub be used in the same workspace?

They can address separate needs without becoming one integrated system. For example, a user could use Phone Hub to bring phone notifications and tabs to a Chromebook while using Flow among other supported computers. The two features still have independent setup, compatibility and network rules. Flow does not gain Phone Hub’s phone controls, and Phone Hub does not gain Flow’s multi-computer pointer or clipboard behavior.

A Chromebook’s ability to participate in a particular Flow arrangement must be checked against the exact Logitech model and current software documentation. The available Logitech guidance does not verify a universal ChromeOS-compatible mouse-and-keyboard combination, so avoid treating any example as a blanket guarantee.

Hardware example and buying checklist

Logitech’s getting-started material for the Pebble Keys 2 K380s names the Pebble Mouse 2 M350s as an example mouse in a Flow setup. That is a documented example, not proof that every Chromebook, operating-system version or keyboard combination supports Flow. The instructions are available in Logitech’s Pebble Keys 2 K380s getting-started material.

Before purchasing hardware for Flow, check:

  • The mouse’s supported number of Easy-Switch channels.
  • Whether the exact mouse and keyboard models list Flow, rather than only ordinary Bluetooth or Enhanced Easy-Switch behavior.
  • Support for the operating systems on every computer, including any Chromebook you plan to use.
  • Whether Logi Options+ is available and installable on each computer.
  • Whether your home, office or school network permits the discovery and communication Flow requires.

Fast diagnostic checklist

Flow checklist

  • Are all computers awake, signed in and connected to the same network?
  • Is the mouse paired on a separate Easy-Switch channel with each computer?
  • Is Logi Options+ installed and Flow enabled everywhere?
  • Does the pointer cross at the screen edge configured in Flow?
  • Are you testing copy and paste rather than unsupported drag-and-drop?
  • Can the receiving computer open the file you pasted?

Phone Hub checklist

  • Does the Chromebook meet M89 or later and the phone Android 5.1 or later for the Phone Hub guide’s listed functions?
  • Are Bluetooth, account pairing and requested permissions complete?
  • Is the missing function one of the broader connected-phone features documented separately?
  • For app streaming, are both devices among the selected supported models and is Android 13 or later installed?
  • Could work or school management be blocking the feature?
  • Could DRM explain why an entertainment app will not stream?

Official feature pages can change as ChromeOS, Android and Logi Options+ are updated. Recheck the current device documentation and administrator policies before relying on a feature for work.
