Choose mobile if you want to sample the opening portion before paying, play on a phone or tablet, or use the mobile-exclusive augmented-reality (AR) mode. Choose Nintendo Switch if you want physical console controls and the flexibility of TV, tabletop, and handheld play.
That is a format recommendation, not a performance ranking. The official listings do not provide a direct comparison of frame rate, resolution, battery life, loading times, or control responsiveness, so there is no supported basis for declaring one version technically superior.

The mobile and Switch versions are best understood as two ways to access the same cat adventure, with different controls, purchasing models, and play environments. Mobile is the more flexible way to test the game and the only way to use AR. Switch is the more versatile choice when your preferred screen and controls change from session to session.
What the mobile version includes
Launch date and regional availability
Double Dagger Studio’s mobile FAQ lists October 12, 2026, as the launch date for iPhone, iPad, and thousands of Android phones and tablets. The FAQ says the game is available everywhere except China at launch; a Chinese release is planned for later, but no date is established in the cited material. Because storefront availability and supported-device lists can change, check the current listing for your country and device before buying.

A free trial followed by a one-time unlock
Mobile is not an unlimited free version. Google Play describes the trial endpoint as collecting and turning in 25 Shinies to Crow. After that point, the rest of the game is unlocked with a single in-app purchase. The purchase is not a subscription, and the listing says your progress is preserved when you unlock the full game.
This structure makes mobile the lower-risk option for someone who is unsure about the game. You can test the touch interface and the opening portion on your own device before committing. It also means that “free” describes the trial only, not the complete adventure.
Mobile is a separate purchase
The developer FAQ says the mobile edition is purchased separately from the PC and console editions. Buying the game elsewhere does not automatically unlock it on iOS or Android. Purchases are also separate between iOS and Android, so an unlock made on one mobile operating system should not be assumed to carry over to the other.

If you have already completed part of the game on another platform, starting on mobile means beginning again rather than importing that progress.
Touch controls and controller support
The mobile controls were rebuilt for touch rather than simply copying a gamepad layout onto a small screen. That should make the interface appropriate for phones and tablets, but the official FAQ states that controller support was not available at the time of its listing. Do not buy the mobile edition expecting to pair a preferred console controller unless a newer listing explicitly confirms support.

There is no official responsiveness test comparing touch input with Switch controls. The practical choice is therefore personal: touch is convenient and requires no extra hardware, while Switch gives you dedicated physical buttons and sticks.
The exclusive AR mode
Mobile adds an AR mode that is not offered on Switch. The developer calls it an exclusive feature, and Google Play says it requires the full game unlock. In other words, the trial is not a way to use AR without paying. If AR is the reason you are interested in the mobile edition, budget for the complete unlock and verify that your device supports the required AR functions.
Offline play after setup
After the mobile game has been downloaded and purchased, the FAQ says it can be played offline. You should complete the download and unlock while connected, then test offline mode before relying on it during travel. Offline availability does not remove the need to meet the device and storefront requirements at installation time.
Android compatibility is not universal
The developer warns that some Android devices do not meet Google Play requirements. “Thousands of Android phones and tablets” is therefore not a guarantee that every recent or inexpensive model will run the game. Check whether the Play listing allows installation on your exact device before purchasing, particularly if your phone uses an unusual chipset, an older Android release, or a restricted regional store.
What the Nintendo Switch version offers
Three ways to play
Nintendo’s Canadian store listing documents TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, with support for one player. TV mode suits a living-room session, tabletop mode lets you share a screen without a television, and handheld mode keeps the game on the console’s built-in display. This is the main reason to choose Switch over mobile: the same purchase adapts to three console setups without changing operating systems.

Release date and storage
The cited Nintendo Canada listing gives a May 9, 2024, release date and a 2.2 GB download size. The 2.2 GB figure is a storage requirement from that storefront listing, not a measure of visual quality, performance, or total future update size. Leave additional free space for system overhead and updates rather than treating 2.2 GB as a permanent ceiling.

Sega announced a Japanese physical edition for June 18, 2026, with a suggested retail price of 3,980 yen including tax. Sega says that package contains the same content as the digital version released in May 2024. This announcement is specific to Japan; it does not establish that a physical cartridge is sold in every country, nor does it establish a local price or release date elsewhere.
If you are importing the Japanese package, confirm the seller’s region details, language information, and any local account or delivery restrictions before ordering. The available evidence supports the Japanese edition’s content equivalence to the Japanese-market digital release, not universal regional availability.

How much content is actually the same?
The developer describes mobile as containing “nearly all of the original adventure,” with mobile-specific controls and AR added. That is strong evidence that the central game is present, but it is not an item-by-item parity guarantee. Google Play explicitly warns that mobile content and presentation may vary from other platforms.
There is also no complete current feature chart showing every character, cosmetic, area, visual setting, or interaction on each platform. Avoid assuming that “nearly all” means identical menus, effects, performance settings, or future update timing. If a particular feature matters to you, verify it in the current platform listing rather than inferring parity from the headline description.

The Picture Purrfect Update
The official game site says the Picture Purrfect Update arrived on all platforms on August 27, 2025. It added characters, cosmetics, areas, and a cat-customization system. Because the update was released across platforms, it provides useful context for the versions’ ongoing support, but it does not replace a detailed feature-by-feature comparison. Mobile listings still reserve the right to vary content and presentation.
Choose mobile if these situations sound like you
You want to try before paying
The 25-Shinies trial is the clearest mobile advantage. It lets you experience the beginning, test whether touch controls feel comfortable, and check how the game behaves on your device before buying the full adventure. The trial ends at a defined in-game objective, so it is more informative than a time-limited demo for deciding whether the exploration and collection loop suits you.
You primarily play on a phone or tablet
Mobile avoids carrying a separate console and works on a supported device once downloaded and unlocked. It is particularly practical for short sessions or places where a television and dock are unavailable. Remember that convenience depends on compatibility: Android support is device-specific, and iOS and Android purchases are separate ecosystems.
You specifically want AR
AR is the only clearly identified platform-exclusive play mode in the supplied official descriptions. Select mobile for this feature, then complete the full unlock because the trial does not include AR access.
You need offline access on a mobile device
The FAQ’s offline statement applies after download and purchase. This makes mobile suitable for travel or unreliable connections, provided setup is completed beforehand and your device has enough storage and battery for the session.

Choose Switch if these situations sound like you
You want one purchase that moves between screens
Switch is the better fit when TV, tabletop, and handheld play all matter. The three documented modes let you change where you play without buying a second platform version or moving a mobile purchase between operating systems.
You prefer physical buttons
Switch provides dedicated console controls, while the mobile FAQ does not list controller support. Players who dislike on-screen controls or want a conventional gamepad layout should start with Switch unless mobile controller support is added and confirmed later.
You collect physical games
The Japanese physical edition gives collectors a cartridge-based option at a suggested 3,980 yen including tax. Treat that number as Japan-specific and verify whether a local or compatible release exists in your market before assuming the same package is available.
What if you already own the game on PC or another console?
Do not assume an existing purchase includes mobile access. The developer FAQ explicitly describes mobile as a separate purchase and says PC or console saves cannot transfer to mobile. If you value continuity with an existing save, remain on the platform where that save lives. If you are willing to restart in exchange for touch controls, AR, or offline phone play, mobile can still be worthwhile as a separate edition.
Buying and setup checklists
Before buying mobile
- Open the current iOS, iPadOS, or Google Play listing for your country and confirm that the game is available there. China was excluded from the listed launch rollout.
- Check that your exact Android model is eligible; the developer says some devices do not meet Google Play requirements.
- Install the trial and play through the 25-Shinies objective to Crow.
- Test touch controls, display readability, audio, and general comfort on your phone or tablet.
- Confirm the one-time unlock price shown by your local storefront. Do not use the Japanese Switch price as a proxy for mobile pricing.
- Purchase the full unlock if you want the rest of the adventure or AR. The unlock is not a subscription.
- Finish downloads and the purchase while online, then test the game offline if that is important to you.
Before buying Switch
- Decide whether you want digital or a physical package available in your region.
- Check free console storage; Nintendo’s cited listing gives 2.2 GB, while later updates can increase required space.
- Confirm that TV, tabletop, or handheld mode matches how you intend to play.
- For an imported Japanese physical copy, verify regional availability, language information, seller terms, and compatibility before ordering.
- If you own another version already, plan on using the Switch save separately because no cross-platform save transfer is established for mobile.

- “Mobile is free.” Only the opening trial is free; the complete game requires one paid unlock.
- “Buying it on PC or console unlocks mobile.” The FAQ says mobile is a separate purchase.

Final recommendation
For most undecided players, start with mobile if you want a no-commitment trial, phone or tablet convenience, or AR. The trial gives you a concrete way to judge the game and touch controls, and the full unlock is a one-time purchase that works offline after setup.
Pick Nintendo Switch when dedicated controls and screen flexibility matter more than trying first. Its documented TV, tabletop, and handheld modes make it the stronger living-room and portable-console option, and the physical edition gives Japanese-market buyers a cartridge choice.
Neither recommendation is a claim that one platform looks or runs better. Official materials establish differences in access, controls, modes, purchasing, and AR, but not a measured performance winner. Base your decision on where you want to play and how you want to pay.
