LinkYaar is an open-source link-in-bio app for collecting links, social profiles, and work on one shareable page. Its builder, Bhuvan Boddu, says he created it in response to paid feature restrictions and concerns about audience data living on a closed platform. You can use the hosted product or self-host the application, but self-hosting means managing its database, configuration, and deployment yourself.
Why Bhuvan Boddu built LinkYaar
Boddu describes LinkYaar as a response to a perceived mismatch: a creator’s link-in-bio page can be central to their online identity, yet the features and control they want may depend on a closed service or paid tier. He writes, “For a page that is literally your identity on the internet, that felt backwards.” That is the builder’s rationale, not an independently verified assessment of every competing service. The practical goal is to give creators a single page for links, social profiles, and their work. LinkYaar’s website advertises link organization and scheduling, themes, QR codes, analytics, and data export. Those are product-site claims; they are not an independent feature or privacy audit. What LinkYaar offers—and what the comparison does not establish
LinkYaar’s product site presents it as an alternative to Linktree, but the available project information does not establish a current, like-for-like comparison of the two services’ pricing, feature tiers, analytics, privacy practices, or export options. The useful distinction to consider is the operating model: use a hosted service for convenience, or self-host LinkYaar for more control over deployment while taking on maintenance.

Availability and behavior can change; consult the project’s current site and repository before choosing it for a particular requirement.
How LinkYaar is built
The repository describes a modern web application built with Next.js App Router, React, and strict TypeScript. Tailwind CSS v4 and shadcn/ui provide the interface layer, while Supabase supplies Postgres, row-level security, authentication, and storage. The project also lists Resend for email, optional Upstash Redis for rate limiting, optional AI providers, and optional PostHog and Sentry observability. Vercel is listed for deployment. Review the LinkYaar repository and current documentation.
Optional integrations are not the same as built-in guarantees. In particular, a stack that includes analytics, authentication, or row-level security does not by itself establish how a deployed instance handles every privacy or security concern. Review the implementation and configure your own services appropriately.

The repository README’s quick start calls for Node 20 or later, pnpm, and Supabase URL and key configuration. It also says other services are optional and the app degrades gracefully if they are not configured. These are repository instructions, not a verified deployment walkthrough; check the README for the current commands and environment variable names before proceeding.

- Check prerequisites. Install a compatible Node.js release (20+) and pnpm, and prepare a Supabase project.
- Get the source. Clone the public repository using the command shown in its README, then change into the project directory.
- Install dependencies. Use the pnpm install command specified in the README.
- Configure the environment. Copy the example environment file as directed and add the required Supabase URL and key. Add optional service credentials only if you intend to use those integrations.
- Start and deploy according to the README. Follow its current development and deployment instructions, then verify the deployed page and any enabled integrations in your own environment.
Self-hosting shifts responsibility to you for deployment, updates, database and credential management, and any operational services you enable. It gives you control over where and how you run the app, but does not automatically make it private, secure, or maintenance-free.
What the AGPL-3.0-or-later license means
The repository identifies LinkYaar as AGPL-3.0-or-later. Its README summarizes the license as allowing use, self-hosting, and charging for hosting, while requiring a modified version offered as a public service to share its source. Treat that as a short project summary rather than legal advice: read the full license to understand the precise obligations before modifying or operating the software as a service. Who should consider LinkYaar?
LinkYaar is worth evaluating if you want a customizable link-in-bio page and value having an open-source option that can be self-hosted. The hosted route is simpler; self-hosting suits people prepared to operate a web application and its supporting services. If you need a particular analytics, privacy, export, or feature-tier outcome, verify it directly against the current implementation and service terms rather than assuming the project’s alternative positioning proves equivalence.
