For a tech startup, the right link building agency depends less on a headline link count than on the publications it can reach, how it earns placements, and whether those links support the pages and audiences that matter to your business. Treat agency comparisons as a starting shortlist—not an audited ranking—and verify live examples, current scope, pricing, and contract terms before signing.

What kind of link building do you need?

“Link building” can mean several different services, and the deliverables affect both budget and timeline. Before comparing agencies, decide whether you want individual editorial placements, an ongoing managed campaign, journalist outreach and digital PR, or content that earns links through promotion. Some providers combine these approaches with broader SEO work.

  • Editorial outreach: A team pitches relevant publications or contributes useful material, aiming to earn a contextual link.
  • Niche edits: A provider seeks placement of a link in existing content. Ask how the page and publisher are selected and whether the publication’s editorial process is clear.
  • Digital PR: Campaigns pitch stories, data, or expertise to journalists and publications. This is distinct from buying a set number of links and may require more input and a different budget.
  • Content-led link earning: The agency helps create and promote assets—such as research or guides—that other sites may cite.

Ask the agency to describe the actual work, inputs, and expected deliverables rather than relying on a service label. A monthly placement target is not itself evidence of traffic, rankings, or revenue.

Which link building agencies may suit a tech startup?

The providers below appear in 2026 startup, SaaS, or link-building comparisons. These are examples for building a shortlist, not an independently tested ranking. Published prices are dated snapshots, not binding quotes; confirm current rates, package scope, and terms directly.

Provider Potential fit suggested by published descriptions Published example and qualification
Outreach Monks A SaaS campaign where a published rate card and stated quality floor are useful starting points. A September 2026 comparison lists a Domain Rating (DR) 60+ floor by tier, prices from $99 per link, and monthly packages of $1,699–$6,999. These are comparison-page figures, not a verified current quote. Source
Editorial.Link A buyer considering editorial placements or a smaller initial order. 2026 comparisons describe per-link pricing and a single-link option. One roundup lists $375 for one link, $1,750 for five, and $6,000 for twenty; confirm current pricing and package terms. Source
Jeenam A buyer looking for managed outreach described as SaaS-focused. Its own 2026 comparison describes full campaign management and placement criteria, and lists $1,250 per month for five links. The figure and service claims are self-published by the agency, which ranks itself first. Source
uSERP A funded or enterprise software company considering premium editorial or digital PR work. Comparison pages list a $5,500-per-month entry point or Launch tier and describe an initial three-month engagement. Verify present-day scope, term, and pricing. Source
LinkBuilder.io A buyer interested in a structured, recurring managed program. Startup and SaaS comparisons describe monthly campaigns, but their reported package prices differ. Request a current, itemized proposal. Source
GoPeak A buyer who wants to test a provider before a larger commitment. One September 2026 comparison reports a $990 five-link pilot and monthly packages from $1,900; another 2026 comparison describes contextual link building. Confirm the current deliverables, approval process, and terms. Source

Other names in the comparison set include Page One Power, Siege Media, FATJOE, SAASY LINKS, and Get Pro Links. The right candidate set depends on whether you need standalone placements, ongoing outreach, digital PR, or content-led link earning. Agency inclusion in a comparison is not proof of quality or a recommendation.

How should founders evaluate an agency?

Check topical and audience relevance

Ask for recent live placement URLs on publications relevant to your software category and intended buyers. Review both the publication and the specific page: a third-party domain metric such as DR cannot establish that either is relevant or useful to your audience. Look for visible readership, appropriate subject matter, and editorial standards. Jeenam’s comparison and SaaS Link Building Agencies’ comparison discuss placement criteria and quality measures, but those descriptions should be checked against live examples.

Understand how placements are earned

Have the agency distinguish its work across editorial outreach, guest contributions, niche edits, journalist pitching, digital PR, and promotion of linkable content. Ask what your team must supply—subject-matter expertise, data, interviews, or content—and what the agency will create or pitch. Different methods call for different inputs, timelines, and approval processes.

Agree on quality controls and recourse

Before work begins, ask whether you can approve target publishers or pages, what quality or audience thresholds apply, whether placements are intended to remain live, and what happens if a link disappears. Get the answers in writing, including any replacement policy and its time limit. Providers’ stated policies differ; a quality floor alone does not verify a publisher’s audience or editorial value. SaaS Link Building Agencies and StatWharf describe different provider criteria and packages.

Connect placements to target pages

Ask how the agency chooses destination pages and anchor text, and how those choices relate to the startup’s product, audience, and marketing priorities. Agree on which pages are in scope and why. Do not treat a raw number of links as a business outcome: placement counts alone do not establish ranking gains, traffic, or revenue.

Compare the full contract, not just the unit price

Compare per-link rates, retainers, and digital PR budgets alongside minimum terms, included content, reporting, cancellation conditions, approval rights, and any replacement terms. A low price per link may not include the same work or safeguards as a managed campaign. Because comparison pages show different packages and dates, use their prices to frame questions rather than as a current market quote.

Separate evidence from promotion

Request recent examples and ask whether reported case-study outcomes are agency-reported or independently verified. Read the comparison publisher’s methodology and commercial disclosures as well: one comparison says ranking position may reflect paid placement, while another includes its own agency. Rankings and case studies in this source set are not independent audits of link quality or causal impact. StatWharf and Jeenam provide examples of those different publisher relationships.

How much does startup link building cost?

Published prices vary by service, package, and comparison publisher. The figures below are examples reported in 2026 sources, not a universal rate card or current offers.

Published figure What it represents Source and qualification
18 of 29 agencies publish a rate; 13 of 29 state a DR floor Descriptive count reported by a 2026 comparison; its page says it was updated September 1, 2026. SaaS Link Building Agencies
$45–$700 per link Broad 2026 benchmark presented by the publisher, not a universal price range. Ivristech
$3,000–$7,500 per month Mid-market retainer benchmark in the same publisher’s 2026 market framing. Ivristech
$7,500–$15,000+ per month Premium digital PR benchmark in the same publisher’s 2026 market framing. Ivristech
$5,500 per month uSERP Launch starting price listed by StatWharf in September 2026; the comparison reports an initial three-month term. StatWharf
$1,250 per month for five links Jeenam starting price in its own 2026 comparison. Jeenam

Ask each candidate for a proposal that states the work included, number and type of deliverables, minimum commitment, reporting cadence, and any extra costs. Compare proposals on the same scope; a per-link figure and a retainer may cover materially different services.

Questions to ask before signing

  • Can you show recent live placements in my software category, and what work did your team perform to earn each one?
  • How do you assess a publisher’s topical fit, real audience, page quality, and editorial standards?
  • Which outreach methods and content inputs are included, and which require additional budget or my team’s time?
  • Can we approve target publications and destination pages before outreach or placement?
  • How do you choose target pages and anchor text, and how will we report placements and their status?
  • What happens if a placement is removed or the page changes, and what replacement terms apply?
  • What is the minimum term, what does the quoted price include, and how can either party end the engagement?
  • Are case-study results agency-reported, and what evidence supports the reported outcomes?

What a link building agency can—and cannot—establish

An agency can describe its process, provide examples, and report the placements it secured. Those facts do not by themselves prove that its work caused a change in rankings, traffic, AI visibility, or revenue. The available 2026 comparisons are mainly agency and publisher comparison content; they do not provide a robust independently audited outcome statistic. The count of published rates and DR floors is a descriptive count from one comparison, not a market-wide study. Use published figures and case studies as leads to verify, not guarantees of results.
