E Ink screens are not typically refreshed like conventional LCDs. PaperboyS3’s described approach updates only pixels that change instead of refreshing the entire display for every frame. That strategy is intended to make game animation workable on this kind of screen; the report does not provide independent latency or ghosting measurements.

For context, Liliputing gives the original Game Boy display resolution as 160 × 144 pixels. The M5PaperS3’s higher-resolution panel is not evidence that the emulator renders games at the panel’s native resolution; the report’s figures describe the device screen and the original handheld display separately.
Controls and sound
The report says basic Bluetooth controller support is available. The M5PaperS3 uses a simple single-tone buzzer rather than a conventional speaker. PaperboyS3 can produce chiptune-style sound by rapidly switching among four audio channels, but that is not the same as having a full speaker system.

ReBoi is a distinct conversion kit for a Game Boy Color shell, not evidence about the PSP project. In a January 22, 2024 article, Liliputing described developer James Sargent’s replacement board for the shell. The kit includes an LCD, batteries, and a board designed to interface with a Raspberry Pi Zero or Zero 2; the buyer supplies the Game Boy Color case and Raspberry Pi. The article said assembly required no soldering and expected a screwdriver as the only tool. Liliputing’s ReBoi report described a prior crowdfunding campaign and did not establish whether or when the kit would become available for direct purchase.
