A 403 response does not, by itself, show that npm version drift, a Node.js requirement, or Cloudflare caused the failure. First identify which request failed and which layer returned the status. Then check your deployed dependencies and runtime, Worker compatibility settings, and LINE webhook handling as separate issues.
First, identify which request returned 403
A LINE bot has two distinct HTTP paths that are easy to confuse:
- Incoming webhook: LINE sends an HTTP POST to your bot’s webhook URL. A 403 here means the request was refused somewhere along the receiving path, such as a proxy, Worker, or application.
- Outgoing Messaging API request: Your bot sends a request to LINE. If that request returns 403, investigate its API endpoint, credentials, and response details; webhook verification advice does not diagnose it.
Also distinguish the LINE Developers Console’s webhook URL Verify action from a real event delivery. Before changing versions or settings, reproduce the failure and record the request method and URL, response body and headers, and timestamp. Compare Cloudflare logs with application logs to determine whether the request reached your code and which layer sent the response.
Check npm and Node.js in the deployed environment
LINE’s current Node.js SDK requirements page specifies Node.js 22 or later and npm preferably 10 or later. Run these commands in the same build or deployment environment used by the bot, not just on your development machine:
#1 Best Overall
- Dual band router upgrades to 1200 Mbps high speed internet (300mbps for 2.4GHz plus 900Mbps for 5GHz), reducing buffering and ideal for 4K stream
- Full Gigabit Ports - Gigabit Router with 4 Gigabit LAN ports, ideal for any internet plan and allow you to directly connect your wired devices
- Boosted Coverage - Four external antennas equipped with Beamforming technology extend and concentrate the Wi-Fi signals
- MU-MIMO technology - (5GHz band) allows high speeds for multiple devices simultaneously
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
node --version
npm --version
Compare the results with the SDK version declared in package.json and the resolved version in your lockfile. Then rebuild and deploy from a consistent dependency state. A mismatch can lead to installation or build inconsistencies, but it is not evidence on its own that npm caused an HTTP 403.
Separate package-manager drift from SDK migration
An SDK major-version change can break application code independently of npm’s version. LINE’s release notes and migration guidance say v11 removes the legacy Client and OAuth APIs and their associated legacy types. The guidance recommends migrating through v10.8.0 before moving to v11. If the 403 began after an SDK upgrade, check for migration errors in the application logs rather than treating the upgrade as npm drift.

If you deploy on Cloudflare Workers, check compatibility settings
LINE’s Cloudflare and Hono bot tutorial, published October 1, 2026, enables the nodejs_compat compatibility flag in wrangler.jsonc. The tutorial explains that signature verification uses Node.js crypto, so the Worker needs the documented Node.js compatibility support.
Check the compatibility flags and compatibility date in the configuration for the Worker that is actually deployed. The tutorial reports a tested environment of Node.js 26.8.1, create-hono 0.19.5, Hono 4.13.9, Wrangler 4.144.0, and LINE Messaging API SDK for Node.js 11.2.0. Those are the tutorial’s tested versions, not minimum requirements for every Worker. Consult Cloudflare’s current documentation before changing runtime settings. The tutorial documents nodejs_compat as a compatibility step; it does not establish that omitting the flag always results in 403.

For webhook URL verification, return HTTP 200
When you use the Console’s webhook URL verification, LINE sends a POST communication-check request and expects an HTTP 200 response. The request may contain an empty events array; your handler must not assume every valid POST contains a user event. Check the webhook error statistics alongside server and proxy logs.
LINE classifies webhook delivery problems as error_status_code (a response outside the 20x range), could_not_connect, request_timeout, or unclassified. These categories help distinguish a reachable endpoint returning an error from connection or timeout problems. They do not identify the underlying cause without the matching request and server-side evidence.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology

Verify signatures against the unchanged request body
LINE signs incoming webhook bodies with HMAC-SHA256 using the channel secret and sends the signature in the x-line-signature header. Validate the signature against the exact body received, before JSON parsing or other transformations. LINE Messaging API engineer Okuzono wrote, “Verify against the raw body exactly as received,” in a LINE Developers article published June 18, 2026.
Recommended Free Tools
When validation fails, check the channel secret and algorithm, and look for changes made by middleware, a proxy, or a load balancer. Parsing and reformatting JSON, changing encoding or escape handling, or otherwise altering the body can invalidate the signature. A signature failure alone does not prove why your endpoint returned 403: inspect the application’s error handling to see how it maps validation failures to HTTP responses.
Best Value
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
Use the evidence to choose the next fix
- If LINE’s Verify action fails, check that the request reaches the expected webhook handler and that the communication check receives HTTP 200.
- If the request reaches the handler but signature validation fails, verify the channel secret and raw-body handling.
- If Cloudflare logs show a response but application logs do not, investigate the Worker, access controls, and other proxy-layer settings.
- If the bot’s outbound request to LINE is the one returning 403, inspect that request’s endpoint, credentials, and full response instead of changing webhook behavior.
- If the failure followed a build or SDK change, compare deployed Node.js/npm versions, declared and resolved dependencies, and any required SDK migration.
The specific component behind a particular 403 cannot be determined without the failing request, response data, deployed versions and configuration, and corresponding Cloudflare and application logs. Treat npm, Node.js, Cloudflare compatibility, and webhook verification as separate checks until that evidence connects one of them to the failure.
