LifeBuddy is a local-first AI planning companion designed for students who have too much to do and cannot decide where to start. Its creator, Yash Pawar, describes an app that turns a plain-language task dump into a prioritized daily schedule, then helps break down tasks and adjust the plan as the day changes. Live AI requires a local Ollama server; hosted demonstrations are described as running in a clearly labeled Demo mode.
What LifeBuddy does
LifeBuddy targets a familiar planning problem: essays, problem sets, email, errands, and group work competing for the same day. Pawar says conventional planner apps felt cold or overwhelming for the student he had in mind, who feels that the task list “feels bigger than the day” and says, “I don’t know where to start.” Those phrases come from the creator’s description of a friend, not from a survey.
Instead of asking the student to build a complete schedule manually, the app’s described flow starts with a brain dump in ordinary language. It organizes that input into tasks with deadlines, estimated durations, and priorities, then forms a plan around the time and energy the student says are available.
How the planning flow works
- Enter tasks naturally. Add the assignments, messages, errands, and other responsibilities on your mind as a plain-language brain dump.
- Review the structured tasks. LifeBuddy is described as extracting task details such as deadlines, duration, and priority from that input.
- Set the day’s constraints. The plan is shaped by the available hours and energy the student has, rather than treating every task as equally feasible.
- Use the schedule and task breakdowns. The app can create a daily plan and break daunting work into checklists.
- Adjust when plans change. Its described replanning flow updates the schedule when the day no longer goes as expected, with an end-of-day reflection as another part of the experience.
This is a planning aid, not evidence that a student will finish more work, earn better grades, or feel less stressed. The project post provides no measured outcomes for productivity, academic performance, stress, or completion.

What “local-first” means in LifeBuddy
Pawar says the live AI configuration uses an open-weight Gemma model served locally through Ollama. The post gives ollama pull gemma3:4b as a setup step and says that, in live mode, prompts are sent to the user’s own Ollama server. It also describes browser localStorage persistence and says the app has no account or cloud database.
Those are implementation claims from the creator’s project post, not an independent audit of the code, network traffic, or storage. “Local-first” should therefore be read as the architecture the author describes, not as a guarantee that has been externally verified.

Live AI and hosted demos are different modes
The project post distinguishes live AI from hosted demonstrations. Live AI requires an Ollama server running locally; hosted demos are described as clearly labeled Demo mode. The author names Vercel and GitHub Pages demos and reports a Render static-site deployment in Demo mode. Hosting and availability can change, so check the mode label and current project page before relying on a particular demo.
Recommended Free Tools
If you want model-generated assistance, the key requirement is access to a working local Ollama server. A hosted demo should not be assumed to provide live local-model inference just because the app itself is available in a browser.
Where AI ends and application logic begins
The creator says LifeBuddy does not hand the entire schedule calculation to the language model. Deterministic application code handles deadline ordering, start times, totals, and detecting when tasks exceed available time; model output is validated before use. This division matters: the model helps interpret and organize input, while application logic is intended to enforce schedule arithmetic and checks.
The project post identifies the implementation as React 19, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS 4, and Lucide icons. Pawar reported 23 passing tests in the October 4, 2026 post; that is an author-reported project status, not an independent test result.

Who LifeBuddy may suit—and what remains unknown
LifeBuddy’s clearest fit is a student who wants help turning an unstructured list of obligations into a workable day, especially if they value the option of running AI locally. It may be less suitable for someone seeking a proven academic intervention, independently verified privacy guarantees, or a planner that works with live AI without local setup.
