The game is a narrative adventure set in Haven Springs, Colorado. Alex Chen’s empathy lets her experience and influence other people’s strong emotions, while exploration, relationships, and consequential choices drive the story. Square Enix describes the premise on its official game page and North American store listing.
What are the secrets in True Colors?
The most useful optional content to seek out is the Memory collectibles and Side Quests. PowerPyx reports 29 collectible locations in total: 25 Memories and four Side Quests. These are guide-reported totals, not a publisher statistic. The guide’s all collectible locations walkthrough organizes them by chapter.
#1 Best Overall
- The truth will hurt - Discover the shocking secrets behind your brother's death in an emotional roller-coaster of an adventure
- Feel everything - change fate and change lives with the psychic power of empathy
- Forge deep relationships - build trust with the townsfolk - and embrace friendship or romance with Ryan and Steph
- A truly personal story - Make tough decisions and choose your own future. Freely roam the streets, stores, and hidden spaces of Haven Spring and meet unforgettable characters
Look for objects with an aura
When exploring, use Alex’s power to focus on objects marked by a collectible aura. This helps reveal a Memory to inspect. Optional Side Quests also come from exploring and interacting with people and objects, so take time to look around rather than moving straight through the main objective.
Know how choices work before you rush
TrueAchievements explains that major choices pause for a selection, while minor choices are timed; silence can be an option for some minor decisions. If you want more time to consider timed responses, Square Enix Support says you can increase the Choice Timer duration in the accessibility options. See the Choice Timer support instructions.

- A bold new era of the award-winning Life is Strange begins, with an all-new playable lead character and a thrilling mystery to solve! Alex Chen has long suppressed her 'curse': the supernatural ability to experience, absorb and manipulate the strong emotions of others, which she sees as blazing, colored auras. When her brother dies in a so-called accident, Alex must embrace her volatile power to find the truth – and uncover the dark secrets buried by a small town.
- THE TRUTH WILL HURT: Discover the shocking secrets behind your brother’s death in an emotional roller-coaster of an adventure.
- FEEL EVERYTHING: Change fate and change lives with the psychic power of Empathy.
- FORGE DEEP RELATIONSHIPS: Build trust with the townsfolk – and embrace friendship or romance with Ryan and Steph.
- A TRULY PERSONAL STORY: Make tough decisions and choose your own future. Freely roam the streets, stores, and hidden spaces of Haven Springs and meet unforgettable characters. You can even decide Alex's style, with up to 24 outfits in your wardrobe.
How do you find all the memories?
Work through each chapter carefully, focusing with Alex’s power when you notice an object with a collectible aura. PowerPyx’s chapter-by-chapter walkthrough lists the Memory and Side Quest locations, making it useful if you want to check a particular scene without reading story details for the whole game.
- Explore the current area. Before advancing the story, look around for objects and people you can interact with.
- Focus on collectible auras. Use Alex’s power on an object marked by an aura to inspect its Memory.
- Complete optional Side Quests. Talk to characters and investigate the relevant surroundings when an optional activity becomes available.
- Check the chapter guide if something is missing. Use the PowerPyx location guide to identify the scene to revisit.
Can you go back for missed collectibles?
Yes. PowerPyx reports that collectibles are not missable and that choices do not affect their availability. Finish the chapter, then use chapter or scene selection to return to the relevant part of the story and collect what you missed; you do not need to restart the whole game. The guide’s trophy guide and roadmap also notes that the Haven Historian trophy requires being online so the game can upload choices. That is a guide-reported trophy caveat, not a universal claim about every platform achievement.

Which DirectX option should PC players use?
For the Steam PC launch choice described by Square Enix Support, use DirectX 11 as the default recommendation. DirectX 12 enables ray tracing, and the support article says saves are shared between the two executables.
