The LG xboom Grab is a small, strap-equipped Bluetooth speaker built for taking music outdoors: LG rates it IP67, lists up to 20 hours of battery life under specific conditions, and includes lighting and several sound features. RTINGS’ review supports the portable-use case but identifies real limits: the Grab does not play especially loudly, downmixes stereo audio to mono unless paired with another unit, and can have noticeable Bluetooth video delay.
What the LG xboom Grab is designed to do
At 211.0 × 71.6 × 70.0 mm, the Grab is a compact speaker with a built-in carrying strap. LG says it can be carried, set upright or on its side, and secured to objects such as a bicycle bottle cage. Its feature set includes Bluetooth Auracast, AI Lighting, AI Sound, and Space Calibration, according to LG’s UK product page. Those features, along with its ruggedness rating, make portability its clearest advantage over a conventional home speaker. LG product page LG CES 2025 announcement
How does it sound?
RTINGS describes the Grab as acceptable for music, with balanced midrange and treble when Bass Boost is enabled and audible punch in the high bass. It does not reach far into deep bass, however, and its maximum loudness is limited. RTINGS also found that compression at maximum volume can reduce punch, so turning it all the way up may not deliver the impact a listener expects.

That profile suits personal listening, a small gathering, or background music outdoors better than a noisy environment where the speaker needs to fill a large space. Battery life and charging
LG’s manual lists a 4,700 mAh battery and approximately 20 hours of operation at 50% volume, with lighting off and Voice Enhance EQ enabled. LG identifies that runtime as an internal test result and says actual operation varies. The manual lists charging at three hours or less, while cautioning that charging time depends on battery and operating status. LG manuals and documents
RTINGS reports more than 10 hours in its own testing. That is a separate result under its test conditions, not a replacement for LG’s controlled-condition figure; the available review does not make the two conditions directly equivalent. If you plan to use the lighting, raise the volume, or change EQ, do not assume the stated 20-hour maximum will hold.

Is the LG xboom Grab waterproof?
LG rates the Grab IP67. The manual describes the water test as immersion in fresh water up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes under controlled laboratory conditions. This is a defined test, not a guarantee against every liquid, water pressure, or real-world exposure. LG instructs users to dry the speaker before use and not to charge it while wet. LG manuals and documents
LG’s CES announcement also describes the Grab as compliant with Military Standard 810G durability claims. That is LG’s stated claim; it should not be read as independent verification of performance in every harsh condition. LG CES 2025 announcement

Stereo, pairing, and video playback
Stereo music
According to RTINGS, the Grab downmixes stereo content to mono unless you pair it with another unit. If preserving left-right separation from a stereo recording matters, that limitation is worth considering before buying a single speaker.
Watching video over Bluetooth
RTINGS found high Bluetooth latency that can make dialogue and other video sound noticeably out of sync. Some devices or apps compensate for the delay, but the review does not establish that compensation will work in every setup. For a speaker used mainly with a phone or tablet for video, this is a more relevant drawback than it is for music playback. RTINGS review

How it compares with alternatives
These are RTINGS’ comparative judgments, not universal rankings. The right alternative depends on whether you value loudness, stereo behavior, 360-degree coverage, or a more understated appearance.
| Speaker | How RTINGS distinguishes it from the Grab |
|---|---|
| JBL Flip 7 | Gets louder and has an IP68 rating; the Grab has longer battery life and microphone support for a phone assistant. |
| LG xboom Bounce | Lasts longer, gets louder, and plays stereo without downmixing; the Grab has better bass extension. |
| UE BOOM 4 | Provides 360-degree sound and avoids mono downmixing. |
| Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) | Offers a more understated design. |
Should you buy the LG xboom Grab?
The Grab makes the most sense if you want a compact speaker with a strap, a defined water-and-dust resistance rating, lighting, and a feature-rich set of listening modes for portable use. Its strongest compromises are limited loudness and deep bass, mono playback from a single unit, and possible video lip-sync delay. Consider another speaker if room-filling volume, stereo separation without pairing, or dependable Bluetooth video sync is a priority.
