There is no universal best choice. Read the warranty card for your exact LG OLED, then compare an extended-plan quote for panel coverage, labor, exclusions, fees, claim limits and repair or replacement rules. A 2025 LG OLED warranty card gives one year of parts and labor, while a separate 2025 83-inch G5 support page lists OLED-panel coverage in years 2–5 but charges labor during those years. That is not the same as a five-year, full-TV warranty.

An extended plan is worth considering when it covers the failure you are most concerned about, starts after the manufacturer term without an expensive overlap, and costs less than the realistic covered exposure you are willing to self-insure. Do not buy on the headline term alone.

Start with the warranty for your exact LG OLED

LG’s U.S. warranty page says coverage applies to defects in materials or workmanship under normal and proper use. LG may repair or replace the product at its option. The warranty applies to products purchased lawfully, installed and used in the United States, including U.S. Territories, and begins on the original delivery or purchase date. LG directs owners to the product packaging and complete warranty terms, so the general summary is not a substitute for the card supplied with your television. Read the current terms at LG’s Warranty Information page.

That language is a defect warranty, not an all-risk protection policy. It generally addresses a qualifying manufacturing failure, not accidental damage, misuse or every cost connected with owning the set.

What the standard term normally establishes

  • Covered cause: a defect in materials or workmanship during the stated warranty period.
  • Remedy: LG chooses whether to repair or replace, subject to the applicable terms.
  • Clock: the start date is tied to original delivery or purchase, so keep the receipt and delivery record.
  • Geography and use: the cited U.S. terms concern products purchased, installed and used in the United States and its territories.
  • Model control: the warranty card and revision for your model control if they differ from a web-page summary.

Exclusions can remove the event you expected to claim

The 2025 LG OLED card lists exclusions including power surges, accidents, misuse, improper installation or repair, and commercial use. A warranty therefore may not respond to the exact incident that caused a failure. LG’s complete card is available as a PDF at LG’s 5yr OLED TV Warranty Card 2025. Check the exclusions in the revision supplied with your television rather than assuming every LG OLED uses identical wording.

Why a longer OLED-panel term is not a five-year TV warranty

LG’s support page for the 2025 83-inch G5 model OLED83G5WUA.AUS separates the display panel from the rest of the product. The page lists one year of labor and one year of parts for the covered product, then separately lists the OLED display panel for years 2–5 with labor charged. The model-specific details are:

Product labor 1 year Included during the listed labor term
Product parts 1 year Included during the listed parts term
OLED display panel Years 2–5 Panel coverage is listed, but labor is charged

That page is evidence for OLED83G5WUA.AUS only. It does not establish the same schedule for a C-series television, another G-series year, another screen size, another country or another warranty revision. If you see “five-year panel warranty” in a listing, ask whether it covers the entire television, which parts are included, and who pays the technician.

What an extended plan should add

Compare an extended plan with the manufacturer warranty on the same set of questions. “Extended warranty” is often used as shorthand for a service contract or protection plan; the written contract controls.

Comparison point Questions to ask before buying
Covered failures Does it cover mechanical and electrical failure only, or also events such as a power-surge failure? Are accidental damage and misuse excluded?
Panel treatment Is the OLED panel expressly covered? Is labor included when panel coverage begins after the manufacturer term?
Start date Does the plan overlap the manufacturer warranty, or begin when that warranty expires?
Total cost What is the full plan price, and are there deductibles, service fees, shipping charges or inspection fees?
Claims Is there a claim limit, a maximum number of claims, or a per-claim fee based on the television’s purchase price?
Service method Who supplies the technician, whether in-home service is available, and whether only authorized parts are used?
Remedy limits When can the provider replace the set or reimburse you instead of repairing it, and is there a dollar cap?
Eligibility Must the television and plan be purchased from a particular seller, and how long do you have to enroll?

LG Premium Care: what the published terms indicate

LG describes Premium Care as an additional one to three years for major appliances and home entertainment. Its support description says qualifying mechanical or electrical failures receive parts and labor with no deductible, using LG-authorized parts and technicians. Coverage is described as beginning after the manufacturer warranty expires. Review the current offer and state-specific contract at LG’s What is LG Premium Care? page.

Repair, replacement and the plan obligor

LG says replacement or reimbursement may be offered when a product cannot be repaired, subject to limitations and exclusions. The Premium Care information names Asurion entities as plan obligors depending on jurisdiction. The obligor and contract can therefore vary by state. Read the actual agreement for the television you are buying, including any limits on replacement value, reimbursement method and non-covered labor.

The published price example is not your quote

LG’s current U.S. warranty page displays an example of a $122 one-year OLED TV plan and a $425 average repair cost. The page does not state a publication year for that table; treat the figures as examples shown on the page accessed October 13, 2026, not as a guaranteed price, an individualized quote or a measured OLED failure rate. Eligibility, model, seller, state and promotion can change the amount. The page is at LG Warranty Information.

The $425 figure also cannot prove that a plan will pay for itself. No reliable model-specific OLED failure probability, plan claim rate or independent expected-value study is established here.

Best Buy Geek Squad Protection: separate the plan types

Best Buy says Geek Squad Protection supplements the manufacturer warranty. During the manufacturer period, most manufacturer-covered repairs are handled by the manufacturer; the plan may cover additional events, such as some power-surge failures. Product-specific limits and exclusions apply. See Best Buy’s Geek Squad Protection overview.

Purchase channel and enrollment timing

Best Buy’s FAQ says the television and the specific plan must both be purchased from Best Buy. Eligible plans may be added within 60 days. Coverage begins on the later of the plan-purchase date or the product-receipt date, with no waiting period after that start point. Actual coverage varies by product and plan. Confirm eligibility in the transaction record and the plan contract at Best Buy’s Geek Squad Protection FAQ.

My Best Buy Total is a different product

Best Buy’s separate My Best Buy Total TV page describes up to 24 months of protection for most new TV, video and audio products purchased at Best Buy while membership is active. For eligible claims outside the manufacturer warranty, it states service fees and a limit of up to two covered claims every 12 months, with fee tiers based on purchase price. This membership description should not be treated as the terms of every stand-alone Geek Squad plan. Read the current details at Best Buy Protection – TV and Home Theater.

Does Geek Squad Protection cover OLED burn-in?

The materials cited here do not establish a current, plan-specific burn-in promise for LG OLED televisions. Do not assume burn-in is covered or excluded from the plan name alone. Ask the seller for the applicable television contract and look for an explicit panel or image-retention clause, including any diagnostic standard and remedy limit. Best Buy’s overview directs customers to its full terms and conditions at Geek Squad Protection.

A practical method for deciding whether to buy

  1. Identify the exact television. Record the full model number, suffix, screen size, seller, country of purchase and delivery date. Download the model’s warranty card and note its revision date.
  2. Mark the manufacturer coverage by component. Write separate entries for panel, other parts and labor. If a panel term extends beyond one year, record whether labor is charged during that period.
  3. Get the written plan quote. Save the price, enrollment deadline, start date, term, deductible, service fee schedule and claim limit. A verbal promise about panel or burn-in coverage is not enough.
  4. Match causes of loss. Compare the plan’s covered failures with the exclusions on the LG card. Pay particular attention to surge damage, accidental damage, misuse, improper installation, commercial use and unauthorized repair.
  5. Calculate your maximum exposure. Add the plan price to any deductible or service fee you would pay on a claim. Check whether a repair, replacement or reimbursement has a dollar cap.
  6. Choose deliberately. Buy only if the covered exposure, service method and contract certainty justify the total cost to you. Otherwise, keep the plan price as a repair reserve and accept the risk knowingly.

Situations that can favor an extended plan

  • The manufacturer card leaves a costly panel or labor exposure after the first year and the proposed plan expressly covers both.
  • You cannot comfortably absorb a major repair bill and value a defined service process more than the plan’s price.
  • The plan has no deductible for qualifying repairs, a transparent replacement rule and no restrictive claim cap that undermines the term.
  • Your purchase and installation fit the plan’s eligibility rules, and you can preserve the receipt and required service records.

Situations that can favor self-insuring

  • The plan mainly duplicates the manufacturer period or excludes the panel and labor you expected it to protect.
  • Service fees, claim limits or a low replacement cap make the advertised term less useful.
  • The television is used commercially, installed improperly or exposed to conditions excluded by the contract.
  • You are buying because of a vague “five-year” label without seeing the component schedule and exclusions.

Pitfalls that lead to rejected or disappointing claims

  • Confusing panel years with full-TV years: a panel term does not automatically cover the power board, main board, speakers, remote or labor.
  • Ignoring the labor line: a covered panel can still produce a substantial service bill if the card says labor is charged.
  • Assuming the plan replaces the manufacturer warranty: some plans supplement it, and the manufacturer may handle qualifying repairs during the original term.
  • Buying from the wrong channel: the cited Best Buy FAQ requires both the television and the specific plan to be purchased from Best Buy.
  • Missing the enrollment window: eligible Best Buy plans may be added within 60 days, but do not assume every plan has that deadline.
  • Overlooking membership status: My Best Buy Total protection is described as applying while membership is active.
  • Assuming surge protection changes warranty eligibility: LG lists power surge as an exclusion. A TV surge protector is a separate accessory, not warranty coverage, and it does not guarantee that damage will be prevented or that a claim will be approved.
  • Relying on a sales summary: keep the complete contract, receipt, delivery proof and model-specific card together.

What to do before and after purchase

  1. Photograph the model and serial labels, receipt, delivery confirmation and the unopened warranty card.
  2. Save the exact plan contract as a PDF or paper copy, including the fee schedule and exclusions.
  3. Install the television according to LG’s instructions and retain any installer documentation if the plan requires it.
  4. Use a qualified power setup and follow the plan’s instructions; do not represent a surge protector as a warranty substitute.
  5. If a failure occurs, stop using the set if continued operation could cause further damage. Contact the correct provider listed in the contract before authorizing third-party repair.
  6. Describe the symptom accurately, provide the model and serial number, and ask which part, labor and travel charges are covered.
  7. Request the claim number, technician appointment details and the written reason for any denial. Escalate through the contract’s appeal or customer-service process rather than paying for an excluded repair and expecting reimbursement.

Examples of how the decision changes by model and plan

Example: a panel term with charged labor

For the OLED83G5WUA.AUS schedule cited above, a panel issue in year three falls inside the listed panel period, but labor is charged. An extended plan that covers both the panel and labor could address a gap that the manufacturer card leaves open. A plan that excludes OLED panels would not solve that gap, even if it advertises several years of general electronics protection.

Example: a plan that overlaps the first year

If a plan starts on the purchase date while LG already covers qualifying defects, its first-year value depends on additional events and services the plan adds. Compare those additions with the plan price instead of counting the overlapping year as a full extra year of protection.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Example: a membership with claim fees

A membership offering up to 24 months may sound longer than a stand-alone plan, but a service fee and a two-claims-in-12-month limit can materially change the economics. Calculate the fee you would pay for the likely claim, not just the membership duration.

Bottom line

Buy an extended plan only after the exact LG warranty card and the plan contract are side by side. The strongest case is a plan that explicitly covers the OLED panel and labor after the manufacturer term, has manageable fees and claim limits, and gives you a remedy you could not comfortably fund yourself. A “five-year” label, a sample price or an average repair figure is not enough evidence on its own.
