SmartThings Home Care can alert you when a connected Samsung appliance needs attention, including when a refrigerator water filter is due for replacement or an air purifier needs cleaning. It tracks and surfaces the task—it does not clean the appliance or replace the filter for you.

What SmartThings Home Care does

Home Care is a feature in the SmartThings app that monitors connected appliances and reports issues or maintenance needs. Samsung says alerts can appear in your phone’s notification panel and in Home Care. Its examples include a refrigerator water-filter replacement reminder and an alert that an air purifier requires cleaning. Samsung’s US support guide describes these functions.

The practical benefit is having the reminder surfaced in the app rather than relying only on memory. Samsung does not publish a measured time saving or a guarantee that every maintenance task will generate an alert.

What to do when an alert appears

Open the alert in Home Care to review the appliance’s error code, if one is shown, and the related troubleshooting instructions. If the instructions do not resolve the problem, Samsung says you can request repair service or contact support through the app. The alert is a prompt to act, not a repair or maintenance service performed automatically.

How to find Home Care in SmartThings

  1. Open the SmartThings app and select the Life tab.
  2. Choose Home Care to view alerts and available appliance guidance.

These are the navigation steps described by Samsung’s UK and US materials; labels or placement may vary by app version and region. Samsung UK’s Home Care page identifies the Life tab, while the US support guide also directs users to Life and Home Care.

What you need, and why an alert may not be available

Samsung UK says appliances need to be connected to Wi-Fi or another wireless network and registered to one Samsung Account. Home Care availability can vary by country, service provider, network, and device. Whether a particular filter reminder applies depends on the supported appliance and model; check your refrigerator’s model details before buying a replacement filter. The air-purifier example is a cleaning alert, not evidence that a replacement filter is required.

Is this the Samsung feature you mean?

If by “maintenance” you mean household appliance upkeep, Home Care is the closest match in Samsung’s current support material. Samsung also documents Battery and device care for Galaxy phones, including daily auto-optimization with a configurable run time, but that is a different kind of device maintenance. Samsung India’s page describing it was last updated August 31, 2021, so it should not be mistaken for the appliance reminders discussed here: Samsung India’s Galaxy performance guide.
