Lenovo Yoga C630: At First Glance

With the increased demand for 2-in-1 laptops, a lot of manufacturers have joined the challenge to deliver high-performance 2-in-1 convertible laptops. Thankfully, Lenovo isn’t an exception.

As a matter of fact, unlike most manufacturers, Lenovo took things to a whole new level with its Yoga C630. Specifically, released in 2018, this laptop features a long list of excellent specs that makes it outshine most of its closest rivals.

To make things even better, despite all its excellent specs, the laptop has a reasonable price. Particularly, as of March 2022 (when this article was published), the Lenovo Yoga C630 had a starting price of $749.99.

Are you still wondering if this laptop is the one for you? Well, read on to satisfy your curiosity.

Lenovo Yoga C630: Design, Dimension, and Weight

Like most Lenovo laptops that I have seen, the Yoga C630 offers a wonderful first impression. Specifically, this convertible laptop adopts an elegant and robust design thanks to its magnesium-aluminum body.

To give more details, the laptop features a black “Yoga” inscription at the top-right corner of its stylish iron-grey lid. Besides, this stylish iron-grey color scheme extends throughout the entire body of the laptop.

However, apart from the lid’s “Yoga” inscription, the only other branding/inscription on this laptop is the “Lenovo” smartly written on one of the hinges. Speaking of the hinges, the Lenovo Yoga C630 features sturdy 360-degree dual aluminum hinges.

Just so you know, these hinges attach the laptop’s lid and base together. However, despite being made of solid aluminum material, the hinges are not solid and rigid enough.

Hence, the lid of the laptop tends to wobble when slightly nudged. Nevertheless, these not-so-solid hinges are flexible and allow the Lenovo Yoga C630 to seamlessly transition between numerous modes.

These modes include tent mode, the conventional laptop mode, tablet mode, and stand mode.

Moving on to the interior, the Lenovo Yoga C630 comes with a 13.3-inch touchscreen display. Performance-wise, this touchscreen display is very sensitive and responsive, making scrolling and swiping stress-free.

Besides, the display has an FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution that allows it to render impressive picture quality and colorful content. Honestly, there’s almost nothing to dislike about this laptop’s display.

As a matter of fact, the display boasts a few perks. For example, the display is made with an IPS panel which allows it to deliver wide viewing angles.

Hence, when watching the laptop from the sides or off-center, the display’s picture quality will stay intact and won’t lose accuracy. That aside, this Lenovo Yoga C630’s display also comes with an anti-glare screen coating.

This anti-glare coating is an additional layer on the display’s surface that reduces reflection when the laptop is used in a bright environment. Thus, using the Lenovo Yoga C630 outdoors shouldn’t be bothersome.

To top it all up, the bezels that surround this laptop’s 13.3-inch FHD display are impressively slim. However, the top bezel is slightly thicker, which is understandable because it houses an HD webcam at the center.

Sadly, this HD webcam isn’t ideal for taking selfies due to the fact that it produces grainy and blurry images. Nevertheless, it delivers a decent performance for regular skyping and video conference calls.

Coming down to the keyboard area, the Lenovo Yoga C630 features a standard chiclet-style keyboard. The keys on this keyboard are large and well-spaced, making them easy and comfortable to type on.

Besides that, the keyboard has decent key travel which makes typing much more comfortable. In case you are curious, key travel is the distance between a key’s resting point to full depression.

Moreover, you will find a spacious touchpad underneath this laptop’s keyboard. This touchpad offers a glass surface that allows for seamless navigation and finger-gliding.

Furthermore, the touchpad has a set of integrated click buttons that are soft and only require little effort to register clicks. Also, this touchpad supports Windows 10 multitouch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom.

On the right side of the touchpad, you will find a fingerprint scanner. This fingerprint scanner enables you to easily log into Windows via Windows Hello.

For ports and connectivity, the Lenovo Yoga C630 features a few ports shared on its sides. To be more specific, the left side of the laptop offers a USB Type-C port and a sim card tray.

Meanwhile, the right side features another USB Type-C port and a combo audio jack. Just so you know, one of these USB Type-C ports is for charging the laptop.

Hence, whenever the laptop is being charged, you have only one USB Type-C port at your disposal. Thus, for an adequate port selection, I suggest you buy a docking station with the Lenovo Yoga C630.

In terms of size and weight, the Lenovo Yoga C630 measures 306.8 x 216.4 x 12.5 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 1200 g. When compared to one of its closest rivals (Acer Spin 3), this Lenovo laptop is quite slim and lightweight.

To be more specific, the Acer Spin 3 measures 325.12 x 231.1 x 17 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 1501.3 g.

In summary, the Lenovo Yoga C630 features a sleek design with a sturdy aluminum build. Also, this laptop is quite slim and lightweight, making it easy to carry around.

Hence, the Lenovo Yoga C630 deserves a rating of nine out of ten in this design review section.

Lenovo Yoga C630: Processor (CPU) Performance

In terms of processor, the Lenovo Yoga C630 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 processor. This CPU is an octa-core processor, meaning it has 8 cores on its chip.

As a result, the CPU has the ability to perform far better than a processor with a lesser number of cores. In addition to its 8 cores, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 processor also features 2 MB of cache memory.

That’s not all; in terms of speed, this CPU offers a standard frequency of 2.96 GHz.

One of the major highlights of a Qualcomm processor is its incredibly fast start-up time – Lenovo calls this “instant on.” Precisely, there’s barely a pause between you hitting the power button and the Windows 10 login screen appearing.

Hence, it is fair to say that the Lenovo Yoga C630 feels similar to how a smartphone turns on compared to a standard Windows laptop. Besides, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 processor, this Lenovo laptop should be able to handle most computing tasks.

To guarantee the performance of this laptop’s CPU, let us proceed to discuss its Geekbench 4 test result. Briefly, Geekbench 4 is a cross-platform benchmark test that measures the overall CPU performance of a computer.

Moreover, a high score on this test implies good processor performance and vice-versa. So, according to the Geekbench 4 test results, the Lenovo Yoga C630 scored 3221 points.

Comparatively, this Lenovo laptop outperformed the HP Envy x2, which uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. Precisely, the HP Envy x2 scored 2989 points on the Geekbench 4 test.

In summary, the Lenovo Yoga C630 features a brilliant ARM-based processor that delivers a good performance for most computing operations. Also, with this processor, the laptop surpassed one of its closest rivals on a CPU benchmark test.

Therefore, the Lenovo Yoga C630 deserves a rating of nine out of ten in this processor review section.

Lenovo Yoga C630: Memory (RAM) Performance

Starting off, the Lenovo Yoga C630 comes standard with an onboard 4 GB LPDDR4X 3733 MHz RAM. In case you are wondering, onboard memory is usually soldered directly on the laptop’s motherboard.

As a result, the memory cannot be upgraded or removed. Before you get disappointed, you need to be aware that there is another model of this laptop that offers 8 GB RAM.

Hence, if you planning to use the Lenovo Yoga C630 for intensive tasks, I suggest you purchase the one with 8 GB RAM. However, for basic computing tasks like word processing, the laptop with 4 GB RAM should be enough.

Nevertheless, this review is based on the Lenovo Yoga C630 model that features 8 GB RAM. Hence, with 8 GB memory, this Lenovo laptop should be able to multitask fluidly without issues.

Specifically, the laptop should perform smoothly while it has about 10 Chrome tabs and two YouTube videos running simultaneously. Besides, juggling between these tabs and videos should be easy for the laptop.

To back up the above statement, let us quickly discuss how the laptop performed on a PCMark 10 test. PCMark 10 is a benchmark test that evaluates the overall performance of a computer’s memory while carrying out office-related tasks.

Moreover, a high score on this test equates to good memory performance. Hence, based on the PCMark 10 test, the Lenovo Yoga C630 scored 5092 points.

In comparison, this laptop outscored the Acer Spin 7, which was only able to score 4012 points on the PCMark 10 test.

Thus, I will rate the Lenovo Yoga C630 an eight out of ten in this memory review section.

Lenovo Yoga C630: Storage Options and Performance

For storage, the Lenovo Yoga C630 features an eMMC storage drive that offers either 128 GB or 256 GB of storage space. Honestly, I do not think either of these storage capacities will be enough for most users to store files and applications.

Besides, there are various phones out there that offer the same amount of storage space, such as the Samsung A70. To make matters even worse, this Lenovo laptop lacks an SD card reader that allows for storage expansion.

Thus, with the Lenovo Yoga C630, you are stuck with either 128 GB or 256 GB eMMC without any means of storage expansion. Hence, I recommend you purchase an external hard drive with the laptop to get adequate storage space.

With that being said, let us proceed to discuss the Lenovo Yoga C630’s performance on a file transfer test. For your information, a file transfer test shows the speed at which a computer’s storage drive copies/transfers files.

So, on the file transfer test, the Lenovo Yoga C630 copied 4.97 GB of multimedia files in 39 seconds at a transfer rate of 130 MBps. Comparatively, this Lenovo laptop has a faster transfer rate than the HP Envy x2, which also uses an eMMC storage drive.

Specifically, on the file transfer test, the HP Envy x2 copied the same quantity of multimedia files at a transfer rate of 108.3 MBps.

All things considered, I will rate the Lenovo Yoga C630 a seven out of ten in this storage review section.

Lenovo Yoga C630: Graphics Card Performance

For GPU, the Lenovo Yoga C630 offers an integrated Qualcomm Adreno 630 graphics card. Sadly, as an integrated graphics card, this laptop’s GPU is embedded into the processor.

Hence, it shares the system memory with the processor in other to perform graphics-related tasks. Due to this, the Qualcomm Adreno 630 might not be able to effectively carry out graphics-demanding tasks or games.

For example, while playing Dirt 3, the Lenovo Yoga C630 with this GPU delivered a laggy frame rate of 17 fps. However, even though this frame rate is poor, this Lenovo laptop should be able to smoothly play most games on the Microsoft Store, such as Asphalt 8.

With that said, let us now highlight the performance of the Lenovo Yoga C630 on a 3DMark test to further prove its GPU performance. To clarify, 3DMark is an application-based benchmark test for measuring how well a computer’s GPU renders 2D and 3D graphics.

Furthermore, the higher the score on this test, the better the graphics performance of the computer. Thus, based on the 3DMark test, the Lenovo Yoga C630 scored 3108 points.

In comparison, this laptop outperformed the Acer Spin 7, which uses an Adreno 685 graphics card. Specifically, on the same benchmark test, the Acer Spin 7 was only able to score 1968 points.

All in all, I will rate the Lenovo Yoga C630 a seven out of ten in this graphics review section.

Lenovo Yoga C630: Battery Life and Performance

The Lenovo Yoga C630 features a 4-cell 60 WHr Li-ion battery. According to a claim made by Lenovo, the Yoga C630 can last up to 25 hours with this battery.

To validate Lenovo’s claim, let us discuss the Yoga C630’s battery rundown test result. Briefly, this battery rundown test involves continuous web surfing over a WIFI network until the laptop’s battery dies.

Therefore, at the end of the test, the Lenovo Yoga C630 delivered a battery life of 12 hours and 14 minutes. Although not up to the 25 hours Lenovo claimed, this laptop’s battery life is very impressive.

Besides, on the same battery rundown test, the Lenovo Yoga C630 surpassed most of its closest competitors. A typical example is the Acer Spin 3 which delivered a battery life of 9 hours and 12 minutes.

In conclusion, the Lenovo Yoga C630 features an impressive battery that delivers a runtime that can last a full day. Furthermore, this laptop outperformed most of its competitors on a battery rundown test.

Therefore, the Lenovo Yoga C630 deserves nothing less than a nine out of ten in this battery review section.
