To enable a Lenovo laptop’s touchpad in Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad and switch Touchpad to On. If that switch is missing or unavailable, try the model’s touchpad key and check its driver.
Turn on the touchpad in Windows 11 Settings
- Select Start, then open Settings.
- Choose Bluetooth & devices, then Touchpad.
- Set the Touchpad switch to On.
Lenovo documents this Settings route for Windows 11 ThinkPad systems, and its IdeaPad guidance also directs users to the Touchpad page. The available options can vary by laptop model and installed driver.
Try the Lenovo touchpad function key
Some Lenovo keyboards have a key marked with a touchpad icon that turns the touchpad on or off. Lenovo examples include F6, F8, and combinations using Fn; there is no single shortcut that applies to every Lenovo laptop. Check the icon on your keyboard and the user guide for your exact model. On some IdeaPad models, shortcut behavior can depend on the driver.

- Press Windows key + S and search for touchpad settings.
- Open the matching Settings result.
- Press Tab until the Touchpad switch is focused, then press Spacebar to toggle it.
You can also press Windows key + I to open Settings, then use the keyboard to navigate to Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad. If you have a working mouse or a ThinkPad TrackPoint, you can use it instead.

If the Touchpad switch is missing or greyed out
Check Device Manager for a driver warning
Open Device Manager and look for the touchpad under the relevant device categories. If its entry has a warning icon or an exclamation mark, Lenovo advises updating the driver. A missing or unavailable switch does not, by itself, establish that the touchpad needs replacing.
Update the Lenovo touchpad or mouse driver
Lenovo advises installing an up-to-date touchpad or mouse driver, or running Lenovo System Update. The driver and update options depend on the laptop model, so confirm the exact model before choosing a driver.

Check legacy mouse controls
Some systems expose touchpad settings through Control Panel > Mouse. Look for a tab such as Device Settings, UltraNav, ThinkPad, or the touchpad brand name. These tabs and controls depend on the installed driver and model.
