Often, yes—but it depends on the exact Lenovo tablet model and configuration. Many Lenovo tablets have a microSD slot, but the supported capacity, card format, and tray layout vary. Check the tablet’s exact model and machine type against Lenovo’s specifications before buying a card.
How to check whether your Lenovo tablet accepts a memory card
- Find the exact model. Check the model name in the tablet’s Settings or on its device label. If available, note the machine type as well.
- Look up that model in Lenovo PSREF. Open the matching Product Specifications Reference and check the card-slot, maximum-capacity, and supported-file-system details. Do not rely on the family name alone.
- Confirm the configuration. Some cellular and Wi-Fi versions have different tray layouts. Make sure the specification matches your tablet’s configuration before purchasing.
For example, Lenovo lists a microSD slot for the Tab M11 and Tab P12. These are examples, not a guarantee that every Lenovo tablet has a slot.
How much storage different Lenovo tablets support
Capacity and file-system support are model-specific. Lenovo’s specifications for these models show why it is important to check the exact device rather than assume a limit based on its name:

|---|---|---|
| Tab M11 | Up to 1TB | exFAT; WLAN models use a microSD slot, while WWAN models use a nano-SIM plus microSD slot. Lenovo PSREF |
| Tab P12 | Up to 1TB | exFAT. Lenovo PSREF |
| Tab M10 | FAT32 up to 256GB; exFAT up to 1TB | Limits and formats from the reviewed specification. Lenovo PSREF |
| Tab M10 (3rd Gen) | FAT32 up to 128GB; exFAT up to 2TB | Different limits from the Tab M10 specification above. Lenovo PSREF |
These are the limits in the cited model specifications, not universal limits for Lenovo tablets. Specifications can differ by model, machine type, configuration, or region.

Which microSD card should you buy?
Choose a microSD card whose capacity and format fall within the limits Lenovo lists for your exact tablet. If you have not confirmed the model and its specification, do not choose a capacity based on another Lenovo tablet’s support. The Tab M11 and Tab P12 examples support up to 1TB using exFAT, but the M10 examples have different limits.
A card reader can help transfer files if you need one, but it does not add storage inside the tablet and cannot replace a compatible built-in slot.

What can you store on the card?
Android may offer portable or internal storage when you set up an SD card, but the available choices depend on the device and its software. Google describes the difference in its Android SD card setup guide:
- Portable storage: Store files such as photos and videos, and move the card between devices. This mode does not install apps on the card.
- Internal storage: Store files and apps on the card, but do not expect to move it between devices.
Inserting a card does not necessarily move apps, make the card the default destination for downloads, or provide either setup choice. Check the options shown on your tablet before relying on a particular use.

Set up the card and move files
- Insert the microSD card into the tablet’s card slot, following the device’s instructions for its tray. If your model uses a combined SIM and microSD tray, use the correct configuration.
- Follow the on-screen setup prompts. If Android offers portable or internal storage, select the mode that fits your intended use. Menu labels and available choices can vary by Lenovo model and software version.
- Back up anything already on the card before formatting. Formatting permanently deletes the card’s data, according to Google’s Android guidance.
- Use a file manager to transfer files. Google’s Files Help instructions explain how to move or copy files to an SD card.
If the tablet does not recognize the card
- Check Settings to see whether the card appears in the storage information.
- If it does not appear, remove and reinsert it, then check Settings again. Google includes this step in its SD card troubleshooting guidance.
- Recheck Lenovo’s specification for your exact model and confirm that the card’s capacity and format are supported.
Do not format a card containing files you need to keep unless you have backed them up first.
