Choose the Lenovo Tab P12 if you want the larger, sharper canvas and a bundled Tab Pen Plus. Choose the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE if a smoother adaptive display, Samsung’s documented IP68 rating and an included S Pen matter more. Those are specification-based recommendations, not results from comparative hands-on testing. Check the exact model, bundle and current local price before ordering.
Lenovo Tab P12 vs Galaxy Tab S9 FE at a glance

What the Tab P12 gives you
The P12’s 12.7-inch panel has a 2944 × 1840 resolution. That is a larger physical canvas and a higher pixel count than the S9 FE’s 10.9-inch-class, 2304 × 1440 display. In practical terms, the Lenovo leaves more room for a textbook page beside handwritten notes, a wider document, or two apps without making each pane as small. It is also the more comfortable choice when the tablet will usually sit on a desk or be used with a stand.

Lenovo lists a 60Hz refresh rate. Nothing in the cited specifications establishes its pen latency, touch response or real-world smoothness, so do not treat resolution or screen size as proof that handwriting feels better.
What the Galaxy Tab S9 FE gives you
Samsung lists a 10.9-inch-class display with a 27.70cm diagonal, 2304 × 1440 resolution and adaptive refresh up to 90Hz. A higher refresh ceiling can make scrolling and supported animations look smoother, while the smaller body is easier to hold in one hand or carry between classes. Samsung lists maximum brightness of 600 nits for the referenced Wi-Fi product information.
The 90Hz figure is a maximum, not a promise that every app or situation will run at 90Hz. Adaptive refresh can change with content and power conditions. Likewise, the larger P12 does not automatically have worse image quality; its resolution and physical size address a different use case.
Which screen suits studying?
- Choose the P12’s format if you regularly read PDFs, keep notes beside a lecture page, edit wide documents or want a desktop-like study surface.
- Choose the S9 FE’s format if portability, one-handed use and smoother scrolling are more important than maximum workspace.
- Use an external stand for either tablet when typing or writing for long sessions; viewing angle and posture often matter more than a small specification difference.
Pen and handwritten notes
Included accessories
Lenovo’s referenced product listing identifies the Tab Pen Plus as bundled. Samsung describes the inbox S Pen as included and says it attaches magnetically to the tablet. That makes both products ready for handwriting without adding a separate stylus to the initial purchase, provided the exact regional package matches the listing.
“Included” does not mean every box is identical worldwide. Retailers can sell Wi-Fi, cellular, storage and bundle variants, and a keyboard or case may be substituted or omitted. Confirm the model number and the contents printed on the local listing before paying.

How to decide for note-taking
The P12’s larger screen is useful when you want a full page of notes beside reference material. It can reduce the need to zoom or switch views, especially for diagrams and landscape-oriented documents. The S9 FE’s smaller footprint is convenient when you write while standing, move between rooms or use a compact desk. Its 90Hz capability may make supported scrolling feel more fluid, but the available specifications do not establish a comparative pen-latency advantage.
For either tablet, plan how the pen will be stored. Samsung specifies magnetic attachment for the inbox S Pen; the Lenovo listing confirms the pen bundle but the cited material does not establish an equivalent attachment or charging arrangement. Check the manual for the exact P12 configuration rather than assuming the accessories work the same way.

Galaxy Tab S9 FE: a defined IP68 claim
Samsung states that the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and the inbox S Pen are IP68-rated. Samsung defines the laboratory condition as submersion in fresh water up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. It also warns that resistance can diminish with wear and advises against beach or pool use.
IP68 is not a license to use the tablet underwater. Salt water, chlorinated water, sand, drops, open ports, impact damage and aging seals can all create risks outside the stated test condition. If the tablet gets wet, follow Samsung’s care instructions and do not charge it until the port is dry.
Tab P12: do not infer a rating
The Lenovo materials reviewed for this comparison do not establish an equivalent water- or dust-resistance rating. Treat the P12 as unprotected unless the exact regional specification sheet explicitly says otherwise. A case can help with scratches and drops, but it does not create a manufacturer-certified IP rating.

This is the clearest reason to favor Samsung for use around accidental splashes. It is not evidence that the Lenovo will fail in ordinary use; it means an equivalent tested rating has not been established for the referenced P12 documentation.

Both manufacturer sources describe microSD expansion up to 1TB. Samsung explicitly says the card is sold separately. Expansion is useful for downloaded lectures, scanned notes, media and offline travel files, but a card does not increase the tablet’s internal storage speed or change the installed RAM.
Internal-storage choices vary by country and retailer. The Samsung source used here is a Wi-Fi 128GB page from India, not a universal specification for every S9 FE. Lenovo’s PSREF pages are configuration-specific as well. Before buying, verify:
- the internal storage capacity and RAM combination;
- whether the model is Wi-Fi-only or cellular;
- that the microSD slot is present on the exact model;
- the supported card capacity and formatting requirements; and
- whether the card is included (Samsung says it is not).
For a student who keeps most files in cloud storage, the base internal capacity may be adequate. If you expect to carry large video libraries or many scanned textbooks offline, budget for a compatible microSD card and keep irreplaceable notes backed up elsewhere.
Battery: capacity is not runtime

A larger nominal battery does not prove longer real-world endurance. Screen brightness, refresh behavior, wireless radios, processor load, video decoding, temperature and battery age all affect runtime. Lenovo’s “up to 10 hours” figure is a manufacturer claim for a specified region and configuration, not an independent measurement and not a guarantee for every P12 variant. Samsung’s 8,000mAh figure is likewise a capacity specification, not a test result.

If you need a tablet for a full day away from a charger, compare the exact local model, read the included charger specification and plan a power bank or charging break. Do not choose solely from 10,200mAh versus 8,000mAh.
Keyboards and productivity
Lenovo Tab P12 options
Lenovo’s PSREF records keyboard-pack availability for some P12 configurations. That wording matters: a keyboard may be bundled with one package and sold separately or unavailable with another. Verify the exact keyboard layout, language, hinge or stand design and compatibility with your model number.
The P12’s larger display gives a keyboard setup more room for document editing and split-screen work. That is a physical advantage for long typing sessions, not a claim about processing speed.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE options
Samsung identifies a Book Cover Keyboard as a separately sold accessory and lists DeX mode for the Galaxy Tab S9 FE. DeX changes the tablet’s interface toward a desktop-style layout, which can help users who prefer resizable windows and a taskbar-like workflow. The cited material does not establish that DeX makes the tablet equivalent to a laptop, nor does it provide a performance comparison.

Software support and longevity
The Lenovo datasheet says the P12 launched with Android 13 and expected Android 14 and Android 15 upgrades plus four years of security updates until 2027. That was a launch-era expectation, not proof of the updates already delivered or of how much support remains in October 2026. Lenovo’s current product page lists Android 13 or later, and Lenovo says specifications can change.
The available Samsung product information does not establish a directly comparable current software-support commitment for the Galaxy Tab S9 FE. Do not declare a software-support winner from the hardware pages alone. Before purchase, open the support page for your country and exact model number and check the latest available Android version, security-patch date and stated end-of-support policy.
For a tablet you intend to keep through a degree or multi-year project, software support can matter more than a modest display difference. Record the support promise at the time of purchase and keep receipts showing the exact SKU.
Regional models, bundles and prices
Neither tablet has a single universal configuration. The Samsung evidence here is specifically for an India Wi-Fi 128GB product page. Cellular variants, colors, RAM and storage combinations, keyboard bundles and availability can differ by country or carrier. Lenovo’s PSREF information is also configuration-specific.
Current prices, discounts and stock were not established by the cited product information. That means there is no defensible universal value winner. Compare like with like in your market:
- Write down the exact model number, storage, RAM and connectivity for each offer.
