Choose the exact configuration, not the badge. Lenovo uses IdeaPad and Yoga as broad families that now overlap: an IdeaPad can be a pen-enabled 2-in-1 or a serious creator laptop, while a Yoga can be either a 360-degree convertible or a high-performance clamshell. Start with your workload, then compare the specific processor, graphics, display, memory, storage, battery, ports, weight and local price of the two listings.

For a practical starting point, compare an IdeaPad Slim or standard IdeaPad against a similarly equipped Yoga for study and office work; compare IdeaPad 2-in-1 and Yoga 2-in-1 models when handwriting matters; and compare IdeaPad Pro and Yoga Pro at the same screen size and comparable CPU/GPU levels for sustained creative work. The family name alone cannot establish value.

Why “IdeaPad” and “Yoga” are not complete specifications

Lenovo’s current naming reflects intended use, but it does not define one fixed build. The company’s January 6, 2026 CES announcement presents IdeaPad models for everyday work, creator tasks and convertible use, while Yoga models are positioned for creator workflows and flexible designs. Lenovo executive Ouyang Jun described the goal this way: “Consumers today expect their technology to adapt to them, not the other way around.” That is Lenovo’s design ambition, not independent proof that either family is better for every buyer. Read Lenovo’s CES 2026 announcement.

Within either family, two laptops can differ in panel technology, brightness, refresh rate, touch support, processor, graphics power limit, memory, storage, chassis, battery and ports. A “Yoga” label does not guarantee a premium OLED screen, and “IdeaPad” does not mean an underpowered student machine. Treat the product number and the retailer’s full SKU as the decision point.

Current models that illustrate the overlap

Model Form factor Positioning or options stated by the source What to verify on the listing
IdeaPad Pro 5i 16 (11th generation) Clamshell laptop Lenovo targets learners, creators and everyday users doing editing, multitasking and media creation. Selectable configurations reach Intel Core Ultra X9 Series 3 and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU. Actual CPU/GPU, display panel, memory, storage, battery size, second-SSD availability and regional price.
IdeaPad 5a 2-in-1 (15-inch, 11th generation) 360-degree convertible Lenovo describes typing, sketching, viewing and note-taking with pen input. Lenovo’s estimated launch price was $799 USD. Whether a compatible pen is bundled, the exact screen and memory/storage configuration, weight and current local price.
IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 (14-inch, 11th generation) 360-degree convertible Designed for the same flexible typing, sketching, viewing and note-taking use cases, with pen input. Pen technology and inclusion, display brightness, ports, battery capacity and weight for the sold SKU.
Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition 16 (11th generation) High-performance clamshell laptop Independent coverage describes a premium creator/professional model with a 16-inch 3.2K Tandem OLED display and graphics options up to an RTX 5070. Exact GPU, screen option, power limits, memory, storage, battery and availability in your country; some details in the coverage were preliminary.
Yoga 2-in-1 models 360-degree convertible Yoga’s convertible range addresses touch, tablet and pen-oriented workflows. Exact generation, hinge design, supported pen, included accessories, screen size, weight and ports.

The figures in this table describe maximum options, launch estimates or model-level coverage; they are not promises that every unit carries those parts.

Match the laptop to the work you actually do

Study, office work and general home use

Word processing, browser tabs, video calls, spreadsheets and streaming rarely require a discrete GPU. A current IdeaPad Slim, standard IdeaPad or entry Yoga can all be suitable. Compare the installed memory and storage before comparing branding: a less expensive listing with more memory or a brighter screen can be the better daily computer.

  • Choose enough memory for your normal tab count and applications rather than paying for a family label.
  • Check keyboard layout, webcam placement, touchpad dimensions and port selection, because these affect daily use more than a small processor-name difference.
  • Compare the complete weight, including the supplied charger if you travel frequently.

Handwriting, sketching and tablet use

Look at IdeaPad 5a and 5x 2-in-1 models as well as Yoga 2-in-1 models. Both families can provide a 360-degree hinge and pen input, so the useful questions are model-specific:

  • Is the display touch-enabled and does it support the pen protocol listed for that model?
  • Is the pen in the box, an optional accessory, or unavailable with that regional SKU?
  • Does the hinge have the positions you will use for note-taking and drawing?
  • What are the panel brightness, surface finish, active area and weight when held as a tablet?

Do not infer pen inclusion from a product photograph. Confirm the accessory list and compatibility for the exact machine.

Photo, video, 3D and other sustained creative work

Compare IdeaPad Pro and Yoga Pro models at the same screen size and with similar processor and graphics configurations. Lenovo positions the IdeaPad Pro 5i 16 for editing, multitasking and media creation, with selectable options up to a Core Ultra X9 Series 3 processor and RTX 5060 Laptop GPU. The independent comparison describes the Yoga Pro 9i as a premium creator/professional laptop with a 3.2K Tandem OLED panel and options up to RTX 5070. Those are potential configurations, not universal specifications.

For a long render or export, the discrete GPU, its power limit, cooling design and sustained performance matter more than the family name. A high-resolution OLED panel may improve editing and viewing, but it can also change battery behavior and price. Compare the actual screen, GPU and thermal configuration in the listings.

Portability and commuting

Screen diagonal is only a rough indicator of mobility. Check the dimensions and machine weight for the exact SKU, then add the adapter’s weight. A smaller display does not automatically deliver longer runtime: battery capacity, processor efficiency, panel type, brightness and workload all influence endurance. If you see a manufacturer battery-life figure, treat it as a claim under specified test conditions rather than a guarantee for your applications.

Budget-first buying

Use local sale prices for equivalent hardware. Lenovo’s CES figures are launch estimates, and retailer inventory can change. A lower-priced IdeaPad with the same memory, storage, display class and processor as a Yoga may be the rational purchase; a Yoga on sale may erase the usual price difference. Compare warranty terms and return policy as part of the total cost.

Battery Lenovo states up to a 99 Wh battery; coverage also describes 84 Wh and 99 Wh configurations and an additional SSD slot. Exact battery choices must be checked for the regional SKU. Capacity and second-drive support can materially affect a mobile editing setup.
Build and input Coverage describes a mid-tier all-metal chassis and a regular glass touchpad. Coverage describes a premium all-metal build and a haptic forcepad with pen support. Feel, haptics and materials are configuration- and model-specific; try or verify the exact unit.
Price Lenovo’s estimated starting price was $1,699 USD at launch. Current price was not established by the cited coverage. Use live regional pricing for matching memory, storage, display and warranty.

The comparison above combines Lenovo’s manufacturer announcement with model-level independent coverage dated June 16, 2026. The independent article flags some specifications as not yet confirmed, so use the table as a shortlist of checks rather than a substitute for the retailer’s specification sheet. See the June 16, 2026 Yoga Pro and IdeaPad Pro comparison.

How to compare two listings step by step

  1. Write down the workload. Separate occasional photo edits from daily 4K timelines, CAD, 3D rendering or gaming. Note whether you need a tablet mode or pen.
  2. Match the form factor. Decide between a conventional clamshell and a 360-degree hinge. A Yoga Pro clamshell is not interchangeable with a Yoga 2-in-1 simply because both carry the Yoga name.
  3. Normalize the display. Record diagonal size, resolution, panel type, brightness, refresh rate, finish and touch support. Do not compare “OLED” in one listing with an unspecified panel in another as if they were equivalent.
  4. Record the exact processor and graphics. Distinguish integrated graphics from a discrete GPU, and look for the GPU power limit when the manufacturer provides it. “Up to” specifications describe a range of builds.
  5. Check memory and storage. Write down installed RAM, whether it is upgradeable, SSD capacity and whether a second SSD slot is present. Lenovo states that the IdeaPad Pro 5i 16 can include an additional SSD slot, but availability depends on configuration.
  6. Calculate travel weight. Compare laptop weight, dimensions and adapter weight. For a 2-in-1, consider how comfortable the device is to hold in tablet orientation.
  7. Audit input and connectivity. Check keyboard layout, touchpad or haptic forcepad, pen compatibility, USB and display outputs, charging method, Wi-Fi generation and external-monitor support. Port counts should come from the exact listing, not a family description.
  8. Compare battery information honestly. Put watt-hours beside any runtime claim and note the test conditions. Lenovo lists up to a 99 Wh battery for the IdeaPad Pro 5i 16. Lenovo also claims up to 21 hours for the IdeaPad Slim 5x; that is a manufacturer claim whose footnotes and configuration should be checked, not an independent runtime result.
  9. Price equivalent bundles. Include memory, storage, display, operating-system edition, pen, charger, warranty and retailer return terms. A bare laptop and a pen-included bundle are not the same value.
  10. Confirm the regional SKU before ordering. Save the model number, generation, processor, GPU, panel and battery details shown at checkout. Prices, stock and available combinations vary by country and can change after launch.

Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them

Assuming every Yoga is premium

Yoga includes premium Pro machines and more mainstream convertible models. Judge the chassis, panel, processor, memory, storage and warranty on the specific SKU.

Assuming every IdeaPad is basic

The IdeaPad Pro 5i 16 can be configured for demanding creator work, including a discrete RTX 5060 Laptop GPU and a battery option up to 99 Wh. Those are selectable maxima, so verify what the seller actually ships.

Buying a 2-in-1 without checking the pen

Pen input can be supported without the pen being included. Confirm the supported technology, bundled accessory and replacement availability before treating a convertible as a complete note-taking system.

Comparing CPU names while ignoring the GPU

For GPU-accelerated editing, 3D and many creative applications, integrated and discrete graphics produce very different results. Record the exact GPU and power limit before deciding that two similarly named processors are interchangeable.

Taking launch prices as current prices

The $1,699 estimate for the IdeaPad Pro 5i 16 and $799 estimate for the IdeaPad 5a 2-in-1 15-inch were Lenovo’s 2026 launch estimates. They are useful context, not guaranteed prices in your market. Check live listings and regional taxes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Treating preliminary coverage as a final specification sheet

The independent Yoga Pro comparison identifies some details as unconfirmed. If a port, battery size, display option or memory arrangement is absent from the seller’s final specification, mark it “not stated” and contact the seller rather than guessing.

A practical decision matrix

Your priority Models to shortlist Checks that decide the purchase
Lowest sensible cost for study and office work Current IdeaPad Slim, standard IdeaPad and similarly configured Yoga Memory, SSD, screen quality, keyboard, weight, ports and local sale price.
Handwriting, sketching and tablet viewing IdeaPad 5a or 5x 2-in-1 and a comparable Yoga 2-in-1 Hinge, touch panel, pen protocol, included pen, tablet weight and battery.
Creator work with a discrete GPU IdeaPad Pro 5i 16 and Yoga Pro models at comparable CPU/GPU levels Actual GPU, power limit, cooling, display gamut/brightness, memory, SSD expansion and warranty.
Premium display and professional finish Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition 16 and the highest display configuration of the IdeaPad Pro under consideration Whether the 3.2K Tandem OLED or other premium panel is included, plus price, battery and ports.
Frequent travel Any exact configuration that meets your workload at the lowest complete carry weight Dimensions, laptop-plus-adapter weight, battery capacity, charging and screen efficiency.

So, which should you buy?

Buy an IdeaPad when a specific listing gives you the performance, screen, memory, ports and price you need—especially if an IdeaPad Pro configuration matches a Yoga Pro’s processor and GPU. Choose a Yoga when the exact model offers a feature you will use, such as a particular 2-in-1 workflow, pen support, haptic input or higher-tier display, and the regional price premium is justified.

For the 2026 examples, the IdeaPad Pro 5i 16 is the value-oriented creator candidate to compare first, while the Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition 16 is the higher-tier display and graphics candidate described by independent coverage. For handwriting, compare the IdeaPad 5a/5x 2-in-1 against a specific Yoga 2-in-1 rather than against the Yoga family in general. The right answer is the SKU that meets your workload with the fewest compromises—not the name printed above the keyboard.
