The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14Q8X9, marketed as the IdeaPad Slim 5x (14-inch, Gen 9), is a productivity-focused Windows laptop with a Snapdragon X Plus processor. Its strongest case is portable everyday work: one independent review reported enough battery for a workday, and Lenovo lists a useful range of ports. The key caveats are Windows-on-ARM app compatibility and configuration differences—especially whether the exact model has an OLED or IPS display, and how much onboard memory it includes.
What is the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14Q8X9?
Lenovo identifies the 14Q8X9 family by the marketing name IdeaPad Slim 5x (14-inch, Gen 9). The PSREF lists a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 processor with eight cores, with Windows 11 Home or Pro options. Availability and configurations can vary by market, so the family name alone does not identify every component in a particular listing. Lenovo PSREF: IdeaPad Slim 5 14Q8X9
It is best understood as a thin-and-light productivity laptop rather than a gaming machine. Lenovo lists a starting weight of 1.48 kg and dimensions of 312 × 221 × 16.9 mm, along with aluminum top and bottom covers. Confirm the local SKU if those physical details matter, since Lenovo notes that configurations can differ by region.

Do not assume every 14Q8X9 has OLED. Lenovo describes OLED as an available upper configuration, while the 91mobiles review lists an average IPS panel for its tested variant. Those descriptions indicate SKU variation, not necessarily a discrepancy about the same machine.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For the OLED option, Lenovo specifies a 14-inch WUXGA display (1920 × 1200) with 400-nit brightness, a glossy finish, 100% DCI-P3 color coverage, and a 60Hz refresh rate. Check the exact listing or machine specification for panel type and characteristics before buying; the family name does not guarantee OLED. Lenovo PSREF
How much memory and storage does it have?
Lenovo lists 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5X-8448 memory, soldered onboard with no DIMM slots. Choose the capacity you expect to need when selecting the SKU; the listed specifications do not provide a user-accessible memory upgrade path. Storage configurations go up to a 1TB M.2 2242 SSD. Lenovo’s user guide lists an M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 SSD slot, but check the exact configuration and service documentation rather than assuming every regional model has identical storage. How long does the IdeaPad Slim 5x battery last?
Battery figures depend on the test and workload. Lenovo states a maximum of 25.2 hours for local 1080p video playback at 150 nits under its specified benchmark conditions. Lenovo cautions that actual runtime varies with configuration, software, wireless use, power settings, screen brightness, and battery age; the maximum is not a prediction for a typical workday. Lenovo PSREF
In its review published on 20 August 2025, Sameer Mitha of 91mobiles reported 14 hours and 25 minutes in the publication’s battery test. He also wrote that his review configuration lasted through a nine-hour workday with 15–20% remaining, depending on workload. These are results and observations for that review configuration, not guaranteed figures for other SKUs or users. The review runtime and Lenovo’s local-video figure use different tests and should not be compared as if they were measured the same way. 91mobiles review

How does it perform, and is it suitable for gaming?
91mobiles described everyday productivity positively, citing work that included video calls, streaming, presentations, spreadsheets, writing, email, Google Meet, and roughly 40 Chrome tabs. Its published results for the tested laptop were:
| Test | 91mobiles result |
|---|---|
| Cinebench R24 multi-core | 741 |
| Cinebench R24 single-core | 108 |
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 2,379 |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 11,511 |
| 3DMark Time Spy | 1,068 |
These are the review publication’s results from 2025, not independent tests of every available configuration. The review also reported that comparison laptops used different processors and configurations, so its results do not establish a universal ranking. Its 3DMark result and reviewer comments do not support treating the Slim 5x as a gaming laptop: the publication noted limited capability with the latest AAA games. For graphics-heavy work or demanding games, evaluate the specific software and performance requirements rather than relying on the productivity review.

Will your Windows apps work on Snapdragon X Plus?
The laptop runs Windows on ARM. Some applications are designed for ARM processors, while others may rely on emulation; compatibility and performance depend on the individual app and its components. 91mobiles noted a smaller native app library and rough edges in the Windows-on-ARM experience. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a compatibility audit of every program.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Before choosing this model, check the software you depend on—particularly specialist work tools, device drivers, plug-ins, and peripherals—for current Windows ARM support or reliable emulation. If an app’s compatibility is critical to work or study, verify it with the app publisher rather than assuming it will behave like the same app on an x86 Windows laptop.

- Two USB-A ports.
- Two USB-C ports with DisplayPort 1.4 and USB Power Delivery.
- HDMI.
- MicroSD card reader.
- Headset combo jack.
Lenovo says USB-C docking solutions are supported. A compatible dock can therefore be useful for a desk setup with peripherals or external displays; check the dock’s requirements and the monitor connection you need. Lenovo PSREF
Who should consider the IdeaPad Slim 5 14Q8X9?
This model is worth considering if you want a portable Windows laptop for everyday productivity, the chosen SKU has the display and memory you need, and your important applications work well on Windows ARM. Its port selection and the independent review’s workday battery experience are positive signs, but neither removes the need to check the exact configuration and software compatibility.
It is a less certain fit if you need guaranteed compatibility with specialized legacy software, user-upgradeable memory, or strong performance in current AAA games. The reviewed experience is helpful context, but it should not be treated as a guarantee across the 14Q8X9 family.
