For the original Larry Laffer adventure story, play Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards (1987), Leisure Suit Larry 2: Goes Looking for Love (In Several Wrong Places) (1988), Leisure Suit Larry 3: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals (1989), Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work (1991), Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up or Slip Out! (1993), and Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail! (1996). There is no released Larry 4: “The Case of the Missing Floppies” is a joke reference, not a playable chapter.
The connected Larry Laffer games, in order
The numbered Sierra-era adventures form the clearest continuous run. The series chronology published by The Sierra Help Pages places the games in this sequence:

Playing these six titles in release order preserves the character references and running continuity as the original games present it. The number printed on the box is not a complete list of every Larry-branded game, however. Several titles are precursors, remakes or spin-offs with different relationships to the Laffer storyline.
What happened to Leisure Suit Larry 4?
There is no released game called Leisure Suit Larry 4. “The Case of the Missing Floppies” is an in-joke about the absent installment, not a lost adventure that you need to find. It appears as a reference in series listings, which is why catalogs can look as if a chapter is missing. The Sierra Help Pages lists the joke entry separately from the released games, and the MobyGames entry for the 1997 Collection Series likewise describes a collection covering games 1–6 while excluding the never-released 4.

Consequently, Larry 5 is the legitimate next numbered game after Larry 3. You do not need a fan-made reconstruction, an unofficial file or a plot summary of “Larry 4” to understand the official sequence.
Which other games are connected?
Softporn Adventure (1981): an optional precursor
Softporn Adventure predates the Leisure Suit Larry name and is commonly treated as an early precursor to the concept. It is useful historical background if you want to see the earlier design lineage, but it is not the first numbered Leisure Suit Larry game and is not required before starting the 1987 title. The chronology and relationship are documented in the PCGamingWiki series listing and the MobyGames series catalog.
Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded (2013): remake of game 1
Reloaded revisits the first adventure rather than advancing the numbering. It is a remake of Land of the Lounge Lizards, so it gives newcomers an updated way to experience the opening premise. If you play it, the natural continuation is still Larry 2; it does not replace or renumber the later games. Playing the 1987 original and Reloaded consecutively is optional and mainly makes sense if you want to compare two versions of the same starting point. PCGamingWiki identifies the 2013 release as a remake in its series overview.

Magna Cum Laude (2004) and Box Office Bust (2009): Larry Lovage spin-offs
These two games are associated with Larry Lovage, Larry Laffer’s nephew, rather than presenting the original numbered Laffer adventure sequence. That distinction matters: a player looking for the next chapter after Larry 7 should not treat either title as Larry 8. They are separate spin-offs that use the broader Larry identity. Both the PCGamingWiki and MobyGames series pages identify the Lovage connection.
Wet Dreams Don’t Dry (2018) and Wet Dreams Dry Twice (2020): a later two-game sequence
The Wet Dreams titles form a later pair. Start with Wet Dreams Don’t Dry, then play Wet Dreams Dry Twice; a contemporary report describes the second as following the first. They belong to a newer branch of the franchise and should not be inserted between the Sierra games. The release years and pair are listed in the PCGamingWiki series index, while the sequel relationship is discussed by PC Gamer’s October 9, 2026 report.
Choosing where to start
Your best starting point depends on whether you want historical continuity, a remake or the later two-game branch. The available evidence establishes release chronology, but not a complete, current platform list for every title, so choose by the connection you want rather than assuming every game is sold everywhere.

Recommended play paths
For a first-time player who wants the main continuity
- Begin with the 1987 original, Land of the Lounge Lizards, to see the series’ starting point.
- Play Larry 2 and Larry 3 in order.
- Go directly to Larry 5; do not pause to search for a playable fourth game.
- Finish the numbered run with Larry 6 and Larry 7.
This route follows release order and keeps the protagonist, recurring references and numbering understandable without mixing in unrelated branches.

For someone who prefers a remake
- Use Reloaded as your version of the first adventure.
- Treat it as a substitute for, not an additional required chapter after, the 1987 original.
- Continue with Larry 2, then follow 3, 5, 6 and 7.
Playing both opening versions is a comparison exercise. It is not necessary for continuity, because both occupy the first-game position.
For a player interested only in the later games
- Start with Wet Dreams Don’t Dry.
- Play Wet Dreams Dry Twice next.
- Keep the Sierra sequence separate unless you specifically want to explore the older continuity afterward.
This avoids assuming that a newer release with Larry in its title is automatically the next numbered sequel.

Availability and delisting: what is known as of October 2026
Availability is time-sensitive and can differ by country, storefront and edition. A PC Gamer report dated October 9, 2026 says the publisher announced that the two Wet Dreams games were scheduled for removal from Steam on October 23, 2026. The same report says the original Larry games had already been removed from sale in 2025. Those statements describe reported storefront events; they do not establish availability in every region or on every other store.
Because the October 23 date had not yet passed when reported, a reader checking on October 16, 2026 may see a different result from someone checking later. Do not interpret a missing Steam listing as proof that a game was never released, and do not assume that a historical collection listing guarantees a current purchase option. The Collection Series record is evidence of a 1997 compilation and its contents, not a current retail promise.

Does Larry 5 directly follow a missing game?
No. It follows the released third game in the numbering. The gap is intentional because game 4 was never released; the “Missing Floppies” name is the joke explaining the gap.

Should I play Softporn Adventure first?
Only if you want historical background. It is an early precursor from 1981, not a required entry in the Leisure Suit Larry numbered story.
Is Reloaded Larry 8?
No. It is a 2013 remake of the first game. After it, the numbered continuation remains Larry 2.
Are Larry Lovage and Larry Laffer the same protagonist?
No. Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust center on Larry Lovage, identified as Larry Laffer’s nephew. They are spin-offs, not entries in the original Laffer-led numbered run.

No. The original six-game sequence is the continuity-focused route. The precursor, remake, Lovage spin-offs and Wet Dreams pair can be explored independently according to your interests.
Historical context without a misleading “series length” claim
Guinness World Records has a historical record page titled “Longest running graphic adventure videogame series.” Its page, labeled “When 2008,” says the first game appeared in 1987 and names Box Office Bust (2009) as the latest title at the time of that record’s framing. Because that page is historical and not a continuously updated catalog, its “22 years” wording should not be presented as the franchise’s current age. It is best used as period context for the series’ long publication history, not as a definitive count of every later release.
The simplest answer
If your goal is to understand the original Larry Laffer storyline, play 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7. Skip the nonexistent 4, regard Reloaded as an optional remake of 1, treat Softporn Adventure as optional prehistory, and keep the Lovage and Wet Dreams games in their own branches.
