Legrand plans to integrate Karman’s rack-level power orchestration platform into intelligent AC rack PDUs and DC power shelves for high-density and AI data centers. The companies anticipate the first products in mid-2027; the announcement does not mean Karman-enabled models are shipping now. The integration is intended to measure rack power and coordinate it with compute demand, but Karman’s advertised capacity gains remain vendor estimates, not independently verified results.

What Legrand and Karman announced

In an announcement dated October 6, 2026, Legrand and Karman said they are partnering to integrate Karman into Legrand product lines that include intelligent AC rack power distribution units (PDUs) and DC power shelves. The products are intended for high-density and AI data centers. The first Legrand data-center brands expected to feature the platform are Raritan, Server Technology, and ZPE Systems. Karman’s announcement anticipates that the first Karman-enabled products will be available in mid-2027.

The release does not identify exact integrated product models, prices, or purchase channels. It describes a planned integration, not a currently shipping product family. Legrand CTO Swen Anderson characterized the partnership as a way to help operators “unlock stranded power”; Karman CEO Josh Brumberger said the goal is to put otherwise unused provisioned power to work. Those are company statements about the intended benefit, not reported customer results.

How Karman is intended to work

Karman describes its product as a power orchestration layer that combines electrical measurement and local computation in or alongside rack power infrastructure. It says the platform measures power at the rack, processes information locally, and sends control signals to compute equipment so workloads can operate within available power. The October announcement says Karman is built on a custom version of the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano and describes microsecond-resolution power capture, real-time power budgets, and predictive controls tied to workload demand. These are vendor descriptions of the system.

According to Karman’s product FAQ, the platform samples current and voltage waveforms and derives measures including real and reactive power, RMS voltage and current, and power factor. It says measurements can be exposed per rack, per phase, or at configured aggregation levels. The FAQ lists Prometheus, Grafana, Kafka, and Databricks integrations; operators evaluating a deployment would still need to confirm compatibility with their own monitoring, workload, and power-control systems.

Control timing is not the same as server response time

Karman reports an under-2-millisecond path for power sampling, processing, and sending a control signal. Separately, it estimates end-to-end server response at 20–100 milliseconds, depending on the server. Its FAQ also says its local controls can adjust NVIDIA GPU power caps through NVML in under 20 milliseconds. These figures describe different parts of the control chain and should not be treated as interchangeable or as an independently measured benchmark.

What the “up to 50%” claim means

The partnership release says the platform could enable 50% or more AI tokens using the same provisioned power. Karman’s product FAQ presents the related claim as up to 50% greater compute capacity from the same power provision. Karman explicitly calls that figure an estimate and says results vary with power infrastructure and server configuration. No independent validation study or customer deployment result is established in the announcement and product pages cited here.

The underlying proposition is that data centers may reserve some power as a buffer to handle changing loads. If finer-grained measurement and control let an operator safely use more of that margin, the same electrical provision could support more compute. Whether that is possible, and by how much, depends on the site’s equipment, operating limits, workload behavior, and validated safety controls. The headline percentage is therefore a vendor estimate, not a guaranteed capacity increase.

Which Legrand products are involved—and what is not yet specified

The announced integration spans product categories rather than named models: intelligent AC rack PDUs and DC power shelves. The three brands named for the first expected products are Raritan, Server Technology, and ZPE Systems; Legrand has not specified which exact SKUs will include Karman.

Legrand’s existing portfolio helps explain the categories, but it does not establish that current models already contain Karman. Its AI data-center page identifies the Raritan PX4 and Server Technology PRO4X as intelligent PDUs offering granular outlet- or device-level visibility and power-quality metrics, and describes monitoring through Starline M70 busway. Those products are context for Legrand’s monitoring portfolio, not confirmed Karman integrations.

Legrand’s OCP product page describes an ORv3 HPR 1RU power shelf that converts AC to 50V DC for vertical busbars and IT equipment. The page lists 33kW continuous output, hot-swappable 5.5kW power supply units, and N+1 redundancy for that existing shelf. It also describes an engineer-to-order 0U AC rack PDU for OCP environments. These specifications apply to the products described on that page; they are not specifications for the future Karman-enabled versions.

What operators should verify before evaluating a deployment

The announcement outlines an approach, not a deployment specification. A data-center operator considering this class of system should establish how it fits the facility’s electrical architecture and operating rules. Useful questions include:

  • Power architecture: Is the deployment based on AC rack PDUs, DC power shelves, or both, and where will measurement and control sit?
  • Measurement and visibility: What measurements are available at rack, phase, and aggregation levels, and how do they reach existing monitoring systems?
  • Control path: Which compute hardware and power limits are supported, and what are the measured signal and full server-response times in the intended configuration?
  • Failure behavior: What power envelope applies if a node or control component fails, and how is the transition tested?
  • Outcome evidence: Are capacity and efficiency claims supported by measurements on the operator’s own server configuration and power infrastructure?

Karman says its controls operate independently of power infrastructure and IT compute, and that if a node fails, the managed rack continues within a reduced power envelope while the rest of the data center remains available for oversubscription. That is the vendor’s description of failure behavior, not independent reliability testing. Operators should seek implementation details and validate failover behavior against their own requirements before relying on a wider power budget.
