Choose LEGO City Undercover instead for a single large city and an original police-comedy story; choose LEGO Marvel Super Heroes for an original Marvel adventure; choose LEGO Harry Potter Collection for spellcasting and a two-game compilation.
Quick verdict
These games are not interchangeable versions of the same formula. They differ most in the worlds they build, the stories they tell and the abilities you use to solve puzzles. Use this table to narrow the choice before looking at editions or platforms.

What makes The Skywalker Saga different
All nine films in one game
The game covers Episodes I through IX, so its campaign spans the complete Skywalker saga rather than stopping with the original or prequel trilogy. You can begin with any of the three trilogies, then move through their missions in the order you prefer. That structure makes the game useful both as a first LEGO Star Wars purchase and as a way to revisit the films in a single package.

Lucasfilm Games executive Douglas Reilly described the goal as an “ultimate Star Wars video game experience” combining the completed saga with LEGO’s humor and charm. That statement is a description of the creative aim, not an independent assessment of quality, but it explains why the game’s scope is its central selling point.
#1 Best Overall
- Play through all nine Star Wars saga films in a brand-new LEGO videogame unlike any other.
- experience fun-filled adventures, whimsical humour, and the freedom to fully Immerse yourself in the LEGO Star Wars universe like never before.
- players have the freedom to seamlessly travel to any planet, in any order, at any time.
- features hundreds of playable characters from throughout the galaxy. Choose from a legion of heroes like Luke Skywalker, qui-gonn jinn, Chewbacca, leia organa, and Poe Dameron or turn to the dark side as Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Darth Maul, emperor palpatine, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the international version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
More than 300 playable characters
The roster contains more than 300 playable characters, drawn from heroes, villains, droids, creatures and supporting figures across the nine films. The large roster is not just a character-select screen: different characters belong to classes with different abilities, so returning to earlier areas with a new class can open routes or solve puzzles that were previously inaccessible.
Planets, space travel and class progression
More than 20 planets can be unlocked for exploration, and you can travel through space between them. This is a different structure from a single-city LEGO game: the campaign moves between multiple destinations, while optional exploration gives you reasons to revisit them.
Kyber Bricks support upgrades across nine classes:
- Jedi
- Hero
- Dark Side
- Villain
- Scavenger
- Scoundrel
- Bounty Hunter
- Astromech Droid
- Protocol Droid
Because upgrades are tied to classes, the progression system rewards collecting and experimenting rather than simply completing the next film mission. The official descriptions establish the classes, Kyber Brick upgrades and planetary exploration; they do not establish a guaranteed completion time, frame rate or performance advantage on any particular platform.
Platforms and release
The Skywalker Saga released on April 5, 2022, for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC. Choose the version that matches the hardware you already use. Storefront availability, packaging and edition contents can vary by country and can change over time.
How it compares with The Complete Saga
If you already own LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, the purchase decision depends on whether you want a new presentation of familiar films or the additional sequel-trilogy content and expanded systems.
Rank #2
- Fly freely through the galaxy to discover many of the saga's most legendary locations
- Switch between films at will
- This is the ultimate LEGO Star Wars experience
The Complete Saga does not cover the full nine-film story that defines The Skywalker Saga. The newer game therefore adds the sequel-trilogy episodes and brings the whole saga into one release. It also changes the structure around that story with more than 20 explorable planets, space travel, a roster exceeding 300 characters and class-based Kyber Brick upgrades.
That does not make the older game useless. Keep it if you specifically want to replay the version you already know. Buy The Skywalker Saga when the following additions matter to you:
- You want Episodes VII, VIII and IX represented alongside the earlier films.
- You want a larger exploration layer instead of moving mainly from one film level to the next.
- You enjoy collecting upgrades and switching between character classes.
- You want to play on a current console or PC covered by the newer release.
There is no independent comparison in the available evidence for loading times, controls, frame rates, review scores or total completion length, so those should not determine the decision without checking current platform-specific information.
When LEGO City Undercover is the better buy
A single city built for exploration
LEGO City Undercover is the strongest alternative for players who define “open world” as a large continuous place to drive around and search. Its city has more than 20 districts, vehicles and hundreds of collectibles. That gives exploration a consistent geographic identity: you are learning one metropolis rather than hopping among many planets.
That difference matters. The Skywalker Saga offers more than 20 planets and space travel, but its world is an anthology of Star Wars locations connected by the saga. City Undercover instead concentrates its activities in one original city, so it is the better fit if you want a persistent urban map, vehicle travel and district-by-district discovery.
Rank #3
- Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga PS5
An original police-comedy story
You play police officer Chase McCain in an original crime story rather than a retelling of a film series. Disguises, vehicles and police-themed abilities drive the missions. Choose it when novelty matters more than playing recognizable scenes from a major franchise.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Family co-op
WB Games describes two-player co-op. For a family choosing a game primarily for shared play, the combination of a readable city, vehicles and comedy makes City Undercover a practical alternative. It is not a Star Wars substitute, however: its setting, characters and mission structure are entirely original to LEGO City.
When LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is the better buy
Original Marvel rather than movie adaptation
The official listing describes LEGO Marvel Super Heroes as “an original story crossing the entire Marvel Universe.” That makes it the natural choice for a Marvel fan who wants a self-contained LEGO plot instead of missions organized around the scenes of a film saga.
Ability-driven team play
Marvel characters bring different superhero abilities to puzzles and combat, and the game supports shared or split-screen co-op. Select it when the fun of assembling a team with complementary powers is more important than exploring a multi-planet map or following nine connected films.
The evidence establishes the original story and co-op formats, but it does not establish a larger world, longer campaign or better performance than The Skywalker Saga. Those are not safe reasons to choose it without separate, current testing.
Rank #4
- Game Type: Action & Adventure
- Explore the trilogies. Start your adventure by selecting the trilogy of your choice, then immerse yourself in the 9 films of the Skywalker saga
- Play as iconic heroes and villains. There are over 300 playable characters from across the galaxy from Luke Skywalker to Kylo Ren
- Discover mythical places. Travel to your favorite planets from the Star Wars universe and explore the expansive spaces inspired by unforgettable movie scenarios such as the Geonosis Desert, the Dagobah Swamps
- Laughter for the whole family. This fun and creative LEGO video experience is suitable for adults and children of any age
When LEGO Harry Potter Collection is the better buy
A two-game compilation covering the complete school-year arc
LEGO Harry Potter Collection covers seven books and eight films. It is a compilation rather than one newly created open-world adventure, and its appeal comes from the breadth of the wizarding story and the school-centered setting.
Magic as the core mechanic
Spell-casting, potion-making, lessons, puzzle-solving and dueling define the play. Choose this collection if you want progression based on learning and using spells, finding potion ingredients and solving magical obstacles. That is a fundamentally different activity loop from lightsabers, blasters, space travel and class upgrades.
The collection is a strong fit for a Harry Potter fan or anyone who prefers a school hub and spell-based puzzles. The available product description does not support claiming that its world is larger than The Skywalker Saga, so the choice should be based on setting and mechanics rather than an assumed map-size advantage.
Which game is best for kids and couch co-op?
All four choices are family-oriented LEGO adventures, but the best option depends on what the children recognize and how they like to play.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Choose The Skywalker Saga for franchise variety
Local co-op is supported, and the game offers characters and locations from all nine films. A family can move between Jedi, heroes, villains, droids and other classes, which creates variety over a long playthrough. It is the best couch-co-op choice when Star Wars is already the shared interest and you want one game with many destinations.

Choose City Undercover for simple city roaming
Two-player co-op, vehicles, districts and collectibles make the city easy to understand as a shared playground. Pick it when children are more excited by driving, disguises and discovering a city than by following a film saga.
Choose Marvel for superpower experimentation
Shared or split-screen co-op and a broad Marvel cast suit families who enjoy switching characters to use different powers. Its original plot also means players do not need to know a specific film scene to understand what is happening.
Choose Harry Potter for puzzle-focused magic
Spell-casting, lessons and potion-making are the deciding factors. It is the most suitable of these four for children who enjoy magical rules and school-themed exploration, provided they already like the Harry Potter setting.

Check the platform first
- Identify the console or computer on which you will actually play.
- Search the exact title, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, followed by the platform name when needed, such as “PS5” or “Nintendo Switch.”
- Confirm that the listing is for the intended edition and region before paying.
- Check whether the purchase is a physical copy, a digital license or a bundle, since included items and availability can differ.
The official platform list covers Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC. A console-family listing does not by itself guarantee identical resolution, frame rate, loading behavior or feature presentation across every device.
Understand the Deluxe Edition claim
LEGO’s 2022 announcement documented a Deluxe Edition and said physical retail versions included an exclusive Luke Skywalker with Blue Milk minifigure. Treat that as an edition-specific historical offer. Verify the live product listing, region and included contents before assuming the minifigure or any other bonus is still present.
Do not buy on an unverified price promise
Prices, discounts, stock and edition names change by country and storefront. The available product information does not establish a current price survey, discount, affiliate commission or regional inventory position. Compare the live listings available to you rather than relying on an old promotional figure.
A decision framework you can use in two minutes
- Start with the universe. Pick Star Wars for all nine saga films, Marvel for an original superhero crossover, Harry Potter for wizarding-school mechanics or LEGO City for an original police setting.
- Choose the world shape. Select City Undercover for one sprawling metropolis. Select The Skywalker Saga for multiple planets and space travel.
- Choose the story style. Pick a film retelling with The Skywalker Saga or a new plot with City Undercover or Marvel Super Heroes. Pick the Harry Potter compilation for a multi-film, school-centered journey.
- Choose the signature mechanic. Lightsabers, blasters and class upgrades point to Star Wars; disguises and vehicles to City; superhero powers to Marvel; spells and potions to Harry Potter.
- Check co-op and hardware. Confirm the local co-op format and platform listing for the exact edition you plan to purchase.
- Account for what you already own. If you have The Complete Saga, buy The Skywalker Saga for the sequel-trilogy episodes, the nine-film scope, planetary exploration and class-based progression—not merely to replay the same idea.
Final recommendation by buyer type
- Star Wars fan: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It is the broadest single Star Wars package, with all nine films, more than 300 characters, more than 20 planets, space travel and Kyber Brick class upgrades.
- Open-world explorer: LEGO City Undercover if you want one continuous city; The Skywalker Saga if you prefer a network of planets and space travel.
- Marvel fan: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes for its original Marvel story, superhero abilities and shared or split-screen co-op.
- Harry Potter fan: LEGO Harry Potter Collection for seven books, eight films, spell-casting, potion-making, lessons and dueling.
- Owner of The Complete Saga: The Skywalker Saga is worthwhile when you want the sequel-trilogy episodes and its expanded exploration and progression systems; keep the older game if you only want the version you already know.
- Family buying one couch-co-op game: choose the franchise the household already enjoys, then use the world and mechanic differences above to break a tie.
The safest overall recommendation is The Skywalker Saga for a Star Wars-focused buyer. The alternatives are better when their distinct setting or mechanic—not a presumed price, performance or campaign length—is the reason you are buying.
