Choose LEGO Pokémon if the building experience is part of the appeal; choose a sculpted figure for a ready-made character display; choose Pokémon TCG products if you want cards, packs, or gameplay. If you want both a figure and cards, the announced Mew & Mewtwo Figure Collection combines them. There is no documented universal winner: the right choice depends on how you want to collect.

When LEGO Pokémon makes sense
You want the build to be part of the hobby
LEGO Pokémon is the clearest fit if assembling a brick model is as important to you as displaying the finished Pokémon. The first sets were announced as build-and-display products, with a February 27, 2026 launch date. That date has passed; check current regional availability rather than assuming a set is in stock.

The announcement also distinguishes collector-focused builds from sets incorporating SMART Play for younger builders, so do not assume every set has the same audience or purpose. Preorders began on announcement day; stated launch dates vary. For example, the announcement lists October 1, 2026 for Iconic Trainer Moments Poké Ball (72154) and Up-Scaled Red Minifigure (40868). What LEGO alone does not tell you
The official announcements document building and display as product formats, not a head-to-head comparison with figures or cards. They do not establish a set’s current price, shelf footprint, resale value, or whether its build is right for your preferences. Check the specific set listing for current regional price and availability.
When a sculpted Pokémon figure makes sense
You want a ready-made character display
A sculpted figure is the straightforward format to investigate when you want the character itself on display, without making assembly the central activity. Compare the particular figure’s sculpt, pose, scale, and accessories: these details vary by product and seller listing, and the official sources cited here do not provide a category-wide specification or ranking.

Check the exact product listing
Figure collecting is not one standardized format. Verify what is included and whether the listing is for a standalone figure or a bundle that also contains cards and packs. The Mew & Mewtwo collection below is a documented hybrid, not evidence that all Pokémon figures include TCG products.

Choose packs for the card-collecting experience
Booster products suit collectors interested in cards, expansions, and opening packs. Pokémon’s June 30, 2026 showcase describes the 30th Celebration Booster Bundle as containing six booster packs. A pack count does not promise any particular card; the showcase does not guarantee specific randomized pulls.

Consider whether you want to play
Cards can serve both a collection and a game, while packs and accessories make the TCG format distinct from a display model or sculpted figure. Decide whether you want playable cards, a particular expansion, promo cards, or simply the pack-opening experience; then check the actual product contents rather than assuming every TCG product serves all those goals equally.

What the Mew & Mewtwo collection includes
The announced 30th Celebration Figure Collection—Mew & Mewtwo combines a sculpted figure with promo cards, an oversized card, and five booster packs. Pokémon’s June 30, 2026 showcase listed November 6, 2026 as its availability date. That date was still in the future on October 9, 2026, the date through which the source information here is current. Treat it as announced and upcoming on that basis, and confirm the date and current listing before making a purchase decision.
Who should consider it
This is the most directly documented option for someone who wants a character display piece and TCG items in one product. It is not a pure figure-only purchase or a substitute for choosing cards based on a specific expansion or gameplay need; assess the included items against what you actually want.

Availability, licensing, and what is not established
Check availability where you live
Dates and stock can vary by product and region. LEGO’s July 2026 announcement gives differing launch dates for the additional sets, while Pokémon’s showcase lists a future date for the figure collection. Check a current local retailer or official listing before relying on an announcement date or expecting stock.
Understand the licensed collaboration
The LEGO Group and The Pokémon Company International announced a multi-year partnership on March 18, 2025. Pokémon Company International says it manages Pokémon licensing and the Pokémon TCG outside Asia. This establishes the collaboration context, not universal distribution or availability in every territory. See the partnership announcement.
Do not use format descriptions as investment evidence
The official materials establish announced formats, dates, and included items. They do not establish comparative prices, resale outcomes, appreciation, durability, collector satisfaction, or a best-value category.
