LEGO Architecture Venice 21026 serves a different purpose: it is a compact, retired skyline display rather than a full neighborhood. The right purchase depends on whether you want a growing street, an immersive Venetian scene or a small shelf model.

Venetian Neighbourhood is a self-contained diorama
Venetian Neighbourhood 11388 concentrates its storytelling inside one scene. Shopping Street 11371 illustrates this conventional urban-block approach. It contains a two-story music shop, a furniture store, a furnished apartment, a roof garden and a central alleyway. Easy interior access lets you display the rooms and activities instead of treating the facade as a solid wall. Its seven minifigures also provide a ready-made population for a small street.
What 11388 contributes to a city layout
11388 can add a strong district identity, but it should be treated as a destination or centerpiece rather than the repeatable unit of a street grid. Its canal-side composition has a front-and-back story, a bridge crossing and several architectural volumes. The removable floors and roofs make the scene adaptable, yet the set is still one large narrative object.

A practical mixed layout could place conventional modular blocks along the main road and use 11388 as a waterfront attraction, cultural quarter or separate travel-themed scene. Leave a visual boundary—such as a road, promenade or open display gap—unless you have personally confirmed that the physical geometry works with your other buildings. The product information establishes rearrangeable sections, not a standardized Modular Buildings connection on 11388.

What Modular Buildings do better
Modular Buildings generally offer more neutral urban functions. A music shop, furniture store, apartment and roof garden can fit into many fictional cities, so you can invent your own businesses, residents and neighborhoods. Their strength is continuity: each new building can extend the same city story without locking the whole collection to one real-world location.
What Architecture Venice does better
21026 is the most efficient choice for landmark recognition per centimeter of shelf. Its skyline includes several named Venetian monuments, but the compressed format leaves little room for character-based scenes or interior storytelling. Select it when the display question is “How can I show Venice in a small space?” rather than “How can I build a Venice neighborhood?”
Size, piece count and display requirements
Measure the intended shelf or table before choosing 11388. Its dimensions are substantial, and height clearance matters as much as surface area.

For a rough surface comparison, the published minimum footprints are about 1,953 square centimeters for 11388 (63 × 31 cm), 625 square centimeters for 11371 (25 × 25 cm), and 9 square inches for 21026 (9 × 1 inches). Those are simple footprint calculations from the stated dimensions, not guarantees of the clearance needed for hands, lighting, dusting or adjacent models.
Vertical clearance and access
At more than 48 cm high, 11388 may be too tall for a standard enclosed bookcase shelf even if its width fits. Leave room above the clock tower and any removable roof sections. A front-opening cabinet or a table display is easier if you expect to inspect interiors, move the sections or clean the canal and rooftops.

11371 is over 36 cm high, so it also needs a tall shelf, but its 25 cm depth is easier to accommodate in a conventional display. The 21026 skyline has the least demanding clearance and depth, making it the least disruptive option for a desk or shallow bookcase.

Buy Venetian Neighbourhood 11388 when
- Venice is the subject, not merely an architectural influence.
- You want a single dramatic model rather than a sequence of purchases.
- You value canals, a gondola, a bridge, named-style architecture and a large character cast.
- You have a stable display area at least 63 cm wide and 31 cm deep, plus more than 48 cm of height.
- You want to open or rearrange sections to vary the presentation.
The trade-off is scale of commitment: 5,682 pieces and a large footprint make this a major build and a permanent piece of furniture in practical terms. Measure first, and decide whether the model will be viewed from the front, both sides or above before selecting its location.
Buy Shopping Street 11371 when
- You want a current Modular Buildings-style urban block that can sit beside other city buildings.
- You prefer everyday city functions—music, furniture, an apartment and a roof garden—to a single real-world theme.
- You want seven minifigures and easy access to furnished interiors.
- You need a 25 × 25 cm footprint rather than the much larger 11388 base.
Its 3,456 pieces still make it a substantial project, but the dimensions are more manageable for a growing street. It is the practical starting point when expansion matters more than Venice-specific detail.
Use Assembly Square 10255 as a large modular benchmark
Assembly Square 10255 is useful for judging what a mature modular layout can look like. The LEGO catalog lists 4,002 pieces, multiple shops and amenities, and dimensions over 13 inches high, 14 inches wide and 9 inches deep. It demonstrates the multi-business facade and broad footprint associated with a large modular centerpiece.
Choose this type of modular composition when you want a dense urban frontage with several functions in one building. It does not replace 11388’s canal narrative or 21026’s compact skyline, but it helps set expectations for the space a large modular can occupy.

Choose Architecture Venice 21026 when
- Your shelf is shallow or narrow.
- You want recognizable Venetian landmarks without a multi-thousand-piece build.
- You prefer a static skyline to minifigure-scale neighborhood activity.
- You accept that the set is retired and that current marketplace availability may vary.
Its 212-piece construction and 9-inch-wide, 1-inch-deep profile make it easy to display, but those same limits mean it cannot substitute for a full neighborhood. It is a compact Venice accent, not the foundation of a playable city.
Can Venetian Neighbourhood fit with Modular Buildings?
It can fit conceptually in the same collection, but the documented features support different kinds of arrangement. Modular Buildings are intended to connect to one another. 11388’s sections can be separated and rearranged, and its floors and roofs can be removed. No supplied product specification states that 11388 uses the same standardized connection layout as Modular Buildings.

Other Venice-inspired options
A fan-designed BrickLink Venetian Houses concept is described with two facades, a bridge, a water canal and a gondola.
