There is no universal winner. A promo code or direct LEGO offer lowers the amount charged now, while Insiders points create a later reward. Choose the option that produces the larger value on your qualifying basket in your country and currency.
For a fair comparison, record the discount that the checkout actually accepts, then calculate the points earned on eligible merchandise and convert those points using the redemption value shown for your market. Do not assume a code, an advertised offer and an Insiders promotion can be combined.
The short answer
A valid code usually wins when it gives a substantial percentage or fixed reduction on the exact sets you are buying. Points can be better when no code applies, when an official offer grants bonus points, or when you regularly redeem points for future purchases. A code is immediate and certain once accepted at checkout; points are conditional on qualifying spend and have to be redeemed later.

LEGO describes Insiders as a free membership program that awards points for eligible purchases and allows members to exchange points for discounts and other rewards. The U.S. program information currently states that membership is for adults aged 18 and over. A code, by contrast, is simply a checkout promotion: it may be issued by LEGO, limited to selected products, restricted by region or account, and rejected if its conditions are not met.

How the two savings methods work
Promo codes and direct offers
A promo code is entered during checkout and either reduces the order immediately or unlocks a qualifying gift or promotion. The useful number is not the headline percentage; it is the reduction shown after the code has been accepted. A code might exclude particular themes, new releases, sale items, delivery charges or taxes, and many codes have a minimum spend or an expiry date.
LEGO also publishes direct offers that do not require a code. The offers page presents these separately from Insiders points, so a listed gift-with-purchase or instant price reduction should be treated as its own checkout option. If the offer is automatically applied, compare the value of what you receive with the points you would earn instead.
Insiders points
Points are not money in your account and cannot be exchanged for cash. LEGO’s U.S. legal information says: “While Points have no cash value, we have estimated in good faith in the United States that 6.5 points is equivalent to $0.05.” You earn points only on qualifying merchandise, and you normally redeem them later for a discount or another reward through your Insiders account.
This makes points a deferred benefit. The value depends on the earning rate in your currency, the reward option available when you redeem, and whether the points expire or remain usable under the terms in your market. A purchase that earns points today does not reduce today’s checkout total unless you are spending points already in your account.
How much are LEGO Insiders points worth?
LEGO publishes different earning rates by currency. The regional help information lists 6.5 points per U.S. dollar, 8 points per British pound and 7.5 points per euro, among other rates. Because both earning and redemption rules are regional, a single worldwide percentage is misleading.

Using LEGO’s U.S. figures literally, $1 of eligible spend earns 6.5 points and LEGO estimates those 6.5 points at $0.05 of reward value. That is an illustrative $0.05 per eligible dollar, not a cash rebate or guaranteed checkout discount. LEGO material also describes the relationship as approximately 0.77%; that percentage does not follow directly from multiplying 6.5 points per dollar by the stated 6.5-points-for-$0.05 estimate, so shoppers should rely on the actual reward conversion offered in their account rather than a universal percentage.
For a U.S. basket, the practical formula is:
Estimated points value = eligible merchandise dollars × 6.5 points × (reward dollars ÷ points required for that reward)

The $0.05 estimate would associate 650 points with about $5 of reward value, but the points still must be redeemed under the available U.S. reward rules. Taxes, shipping, gift cards and other excluded amounts do not belong in the $100 input.
Points versus a code: the decision factors

Worked comparisons
Example 1: a U.S. code against base-rate points
Suppose your eligible U.S. merchandise total is $120 before tax and delivery. A valid 10% code reduces the merchandise total by $12 immediately. The same purchase earns 780 points at 6.5 points per dollar. Applying LEGO’s illustrative U.S. estimate associates those points with about $6 of later reward value. On these assumptions, the code saves more on this order because $12 now exceeds the estimated $6 future value.
If the code applies only to $60 of the basket, the immediate saving is $6. Points still accrue on the full $120 if every item qualifies, so the points route may be more valuable. Always calculate on the eligible subtotal rather than the advertised order total.

Example 2: a fixed-dollar code
A $15 code on a $100 qualifying basket is a 15% immediate reduction. Base-rate U.S. points on the same basket have an estimated $5 future value under LEGO’s figures. The code is the stronger financial choice unless using it would disqualify a separate bonus-points promotion that has a higher, clearly established value.

Example 3: a direct offer with no code
If LEGO automatically adds a gift valued at $25 to a $150 qualifying order, compare that gift’s value to the points you would earn and to any code that the terms allow. A free item is not equivalent to $25 cash: value it according to whether you actually want it and whether the offer causes you to buy more than planned.
Example 4: the current U.K. 2x-points promotion
As of October 15, 2026, LEGO’s U.K. promotion terms list a 2x-points offer running from October 13 through October 19, 2026. It applies only to listed qualifying products and while stock lasts. The terms exclude applicable taxes, delivery charges and gift-card value from points earning. On a qualifying £100 merchandise subtotal, the normal U.K. rate of 8 points per pound would produce 800 points; the 2x promotion would produce 1,600 points. The terms do not turn those points into an immediate pound discount, so compare the reward conversion shown in your U.K. account with any code that is actually accepted.
Can you use LEGO points with a promo code?
Do not assume that you can. The published U.K. 2x-points terms for October 13–19, 2026 explicitly say the offer cannot be combined with another LEGO Insiders offer, discount or voucher. Other markets and promotions can use different wording, so the terms attached to your basket control.
There are three distinct questions to check:
- Can points be redeemed on this order? Your account or checkout will show whether a points discount can be applied.
- Can the code be entered? A code may be accepted syntactically but fail its product, date or minimum-spend conditions.
- Does the promotion allow stacking? A successful code can still cancel bonus points, or a promotion can disallow all discounts and vouchers.
If the terms are silent, test the combination in the cart before paying and inspect the final points estimate and total. Do not count a saving that disappears at the payment step.

What counts as qualifying spend?
Point calculations should start with the merchandise that the applicable terms identify as eligible. Commonly excluded amounts include:
- Sales tax or VAT where the promotion excludes tax;
- delivery or shipping charges;
- gift-card value;
- products omitted from a listed-set promotion;
- cancelled, returned or otherwise reversed items.
For a mixed basket, separate eligible and ineligible lines. If a £40 gift card and £60 of qualifying sets are in the same U.K. order, calculate points on the qualifying £60 only when the terms exclude gift-card value. If a discount reduces the eligible price, use the amount that the terms define as qualifying, not an original list price.
A reliable checkout method
- Set your market. Confirm the country, currency and LEGO shopping site before comparing numbers. Do not combine a U.S. point valuation with a U.K. promotion.
- List the basket. Note each set, its price, and whether the offer page identifies it as eligible.
- Remove exclusions. Take out taxes, delivery, gift cards and any other non-qualifying amounts named in the terms.
- Test the code. Enter the code exactly as issued and record the accepted discount after the cart recalculates.
- Check direct offers. See whether an automatic gift, price reduction or bonus-points offer appears without a code.
- Record points. Use the regional earning rate and the qualifying subtotal. For a bonus-points offer, apply the stated multiplier only to the qualifying products and dates.
- Convert points locally. Use the reward cost and discount value displayed in your Insiders account; do not substitute a rate from another country.
- Check stacking language. Read whether the chosen offer excludes vouchers, discounts or other Insiders promotions.
- Choose the larger real benefit. Compare the immediate reduction or wanted gift with the estimated future reward, and account for whether you will actually return to redeem the points.
- Save the terms. Keep the promotion’s dates and conditions until the order posts correctly, especially for a limited-time or stock-limited offer.
Common mistakes and fixes
Comparing points with a headline percentage
A claim such as “double points” does not state a cash discount. Calculate the normal points first, double only the eligible amount, and then apply the local reward conversion.
Using a third-party code that is not valid
Unverified codes may be expired, region-locked or limited to products outside your basket. Count a code only after LEGO’s checkout accepts it and displays a reduced total.
Assuming every offer stacks
Terms can prohibit a second Insiders offer, discount or voucher. If stacking is disallowed, compare each option separately rather than adding their advertised percentages.

Including tax, delivery or gift cards in the points math
Recalculate from the qualifying merchandise subtotal. The October 2026 U.K. terms specifically exclude tax, delivery and gift-card value from earning.
Treating points as cash
LEGO states that points have no cash value. They are useful only through the rewards and discounts available in your program, so a future redemption is not the same as money returned to your payment card.
Mixing currencies or dates
Earning rates differ between dollars, pounds and euros, and promotions expire. Label every calculation with its market and checkout date. The U.K. 2x-points example ends after October 19, 2026, so its terms should not be applied to a later order without checking for a replacement offer.

Choose a code when
- the code is valid for the exact sets in your basket;
- the immediate reduction is larger than the points value you can establish;
- you want the lowest payment today rather than a future reward;
- you are unlikely to make another qualifying purchase.
Choose points or a bonus-points offer when
- no valid code applies to your products;
- the promotion covers most of your qualifying basket;
- you regularly buy LEGO and will redeem the points;
- the promotion’s local conversion produces more value than the available immediate offer.
Choose an automatic direct offer when
- the gift or price reduction is wanted and its terms permit it;
- no code is required and the offer remains available at checkout;
- the direct benefit exceeds the estimated value of points on the same eligible spend.
Membership and timing details
Joining Insiders is free. In the United States, the program page currently states that members must be at least 18. Points normally appear only after an eligible transaction is processed under the program rules, so a points estimate in the cart is not the same as a redeemed discount.
Promotions are temporary and can be limited by product selection or stock. Check the offer’s start and end times, the market named in the terms and any exclusions immediately before placing the order. A promotion shown on a U.K. page should not be presumed to apply in the United States, the euro area or another country.
A simple formula for your own basket
Use this worksheet before checkout:

For the U.S., LEGO’s published example supplies 6.5 points per dollar and an estimate of 6.5 points for $0.05. For the U.K. and euro examples, use the published earning rates of 8 points per pound and 7.5 points per euro, but obtain the redemption conversion from the relevant local account rather than importing the U.S. estimate.
Bottom line for LEGO shoppers
Compare the checkout reduction with the value of points on the qualifying portion of your basket. A valid code or direct offer is usually preferable when its immediate saving is clearly larger; points become competitive when a bonus promotion covers your purchase and you will redeem them later. Verify country, currency, dates, exclusions and stacking language every time, because LEGO’s rates and promotions are market-specific and can change.
