There is no single family winner. Choose LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga if your household wants all nine saga films, a very large character and vehicle roster, planetary exploration, and blaster, lightsaber, and Force combat. Choose LEGO Harry Potter Collection if your players prefer Hogwarts, spell-casting, potion-making, lessons, puzzles, and duels across the seven school years. Both are rated ESRB E10+, and both have cited one-to-two-player local modes, so the deciding factors are franchise attachment, content sensitivities, the exact platform, and the type of play your family enjoys.
The ratings and feature descriptions below come from the ESRB Harry Potter listing, the ESRB Star Wars listing, and official platform and publisher pages. They describe what each product includes; they do not establish that one game is universally easier, longer, better-performing, or more replayable.
Quick verdict for different families
| If your family prioritizes… | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Hogwarts, spells, potions, lessons, and school-year storytelling | LEGO Harry Potter Collection | It combines the Years 1–4 and Years 5–7 games, with activities built around magic, potion-making, puzzles, lessons, and dueling. PlayStation’s Collection description |
| All nine Skywalker Saga films in one package | LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga | The Nintendo listing says players can begin with any trilogy and retells all nine films. Nintendo’s Switch listing |
| Free-form travel, many vehicles, and a broad playable roster | LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga | The LEGO Group lists more than 300 playable characters, 23 planets, and more than 100 vehicles, along with quests and upgrades. The LEGO Group’s official game page |
| A child who is more comfortable with magic puzzles than shooting-style combat | Usually Harry Potter | Harry Potter’s official activity list centers on spells, potions, lessons, puzzles, and duels. Star Wars includes blasters and lightsabers, although both games use stylized LEGO presentation and carry an E10+ rating. |
| One specific console or edition | Check the listing first | Player counts and included content are platform- and edition-specific. Do not assume that a feature shown on a PS5 or Switch page applies identically to every version. |
This is a conditional recommendation, not a quality ranking. A committed Star Wars fan is likely to get more from the Star Wars game even if the family prefers puzzle play, while a Potter fan may favor Harry Potter despite its smaller world scope.

What each game actually covers
LEGO Harry Potter Collection: two games, seven school years
The PS5 product page describes a remastered compilation of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4 and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5–7. Together, they follow the seven school years of the Harry Potter story rather than presenting one newly designed campaign. The familiar structure is built around attending lessons, learning or using spells, brewing potions, solving environmental puzzles, and dueling.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A Warner Bros. Games announcement for Japan says that the remastered compilation includes the previously released Character Pack and Spell Pack DLC. That announcement also covered PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for that regional release and said physical PS5 and Switch versions were available for preorder in Japan. Those details should not be treated as proof of current physical availability, packaging, or included DLC in another country; verify the local store page and the edition name before buying. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga: nine films and a larger galaxy
The Skywalker Saga retells all nine main saga films. Nintendo’s Switch listing says players can choose which trilogy to start with, so a family does not have to begin with Episode I. Nintendo’s listing gives April 5, 2022 as the Switch release date.
The LEGO Group’s official page describes a much wider travel-and-collection structure: more than 300 playable characters, visits to 23 planets, more than 100 vehicles, quests, and character upgrades. The same page presents the game as an accessible entry point for younger players while retaining depth for others; that is the publisher’s characterization rather than an independent usability test. Its breadth changes the family experience. Harry Potter organizes play around one school-and-story setting, while Star Wars repeatedly moves between planets, ships, characters, and optional activities. If your children enjoy choosing where to go and collecting different abilities, the Star Wars structure is the stronger match. If they prefer a more recognizable school routine and a sequence of magical challenges, Harry Potter is more focused.
Content ratings and what children see
Both titles are rated E10+ by the ESRB, but the descriptors are not identical. The age category is a useful starting point, not a substitute for considering an individual child’s reaction to combat, monsters, or humor.
| Game | ESRB rating and descriptors | Examples in the rating summary | Buying implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| LEGO Harry Potter Collection | E10+; Cartoon Violence; Crude Humor | Magical blasts and battles involving ghosts, spiders, trolls, giant snakes, and wizards. | Screen for a child who is sensitive to fantasy creatures, wizard battles, or crude jokes. ESRB details |
| LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga | E10+; Cartoon Violence; Comic Mischief; In-Game Purchases | Punches, blasters, lightsabers, staffs, puzzle-solving, and defeated characters breaking into LEGO pieces. | Review the in-game-purchase notice and decide whether your child may access add-on content. ESRB details |
The LEGO presentation makes the action stylized, but “cartoon” does not mean every child will react the same way. A child who dislikes spiders may be more affected by Harry Potter’s listed creatures; a child who dislikes weapon-like combat may be more affected by Star Wars blasters and lightsabers. Use the specific descriptors rather than relying on a broad label such as kid friendly.

How the activities differ during play
Harry Potter’s magic-and-puzzle loop
- Spell-casting: characters use magical abilities to interact with objects and overcome obstacles.
- Potion-making: brewing is one of the named activities in the official description and gives the game a distinct Hogwarts flavor.
- Lessons: school classes provide story context and a reason to return to familiar locations.
- Puzzles: environmental problems require experimentation with characters, spells, and objects.
- Duels: wizard battles are part of the action alongside exploration and puzzle-solving.
This combination favors children who like learning a set of fictional abilities and then applying them in a puzzle room. It also gives siblings different ways to contribute: one player can investigate an object while the other tries a spell or handles a duel. The official page identifies these activities, but it does not establish a universal difficulty level or guarantee that every child will find them easier than Star Wars combat.
Star Wars’ exploration-and-combat loop
- Planetary exploration: the LEGO Group lists 23 planets and quests that take players beyond a single linear setting.
- Character variety: more than 300 playable characters are listed by the publisher, allowing families to switch abilities and favorite heroes.
- Vehicle play: the same page lists more than 100 vehicles, adding ships and ground vehicles to on-foot sections.
- Combat: official and ESRB descriptions mention combos, blasters, lightsabers, staffs, and the Force.
- Upgrades: character improvements are part of the product description, giving progression beyond simply completing a film chapter.
These features make Star Wars the broader choice for children who enjoy collecting, trying different characters, and moving between destinations. The counts are publisher-reported game-content figures, not independent measurements of usable play time or quality.
Two-player play and platform checks
Local co-op is available on the specific listings cited here, but the evidence is platform-specific. Nintendo lists one to two players on one Switch system for The Skywalker Saga. PlayStation lists one to two players for the PS5 Harry Potter Collection. Check the store page for the exact console, operating system, edition, and region you intend to purchase; do not infer that a player-count label on one platform automatically applies to every release.

Before buying for siblings
- Identify the hardware the children will use: Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC.
- Open the local storefront page for that platform and confirm the player count shown for that edition.
- Check whether local play requires a second controller or another accessory; the cited listings state player count but do not specify your household’s controller setup.
- Decide whether the children need a shared-screen experience or whether each will play separately. The cited evidence confirms local player support, not online multiplayer arrangements.
- Read the edition description before checkout so that a bundle, upgrade, or character pack is not mistaken for the base game.
Editions, DLC, and avoiding purchase surprises
Harry Potter Collection editions
The remastered Collection has appeared in different platform and regional releases. The Japan announcement specifically mentions PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, plus physical PS5 and Switch preorders in Japan, and says the compilation includes the Character Pack and Spell Pack DLC. A Japanese announcement does not establish what a retailer in another country currently stocks, whether a disc or cartridge is available there, or whether a similarly named older release contains exactly the same extras. Match the product title, platform, region, and included-content list before paying. Warner Bros. Japan announcement
Star Wars editions and character packs
The US PlayStation page lists Standard, Deluxe, and Galactic editions and character packs as add-ons. Store prices and promotions change, so a captured sale price is not a reliable current comparison. Compare the edition names and the characters or packs included at the time of purchase, especially if your child’s favorite character is the reason for choosing a particular bundle. Match the game to your family’s priorities
Choose Harry Potter when these statements are true
- Your children already care more about Hogwarts characters and locations than Star Wars characters.
- They enjoy spells, potion recipes, lessons, and environmental puzzles as much as direct combat.
- Crude humor is less concerning than the specific Star Wars descriptors, or the listed Harry Potter creatures are not a sensitivity issue.
- You want two connected games covering Years 1–4 and Years 5–7 rather than nine films spread across a galaxy.
- Your target platform is the PS5 listing that explicitly shows one-to-two-player support, or another platform whose local listing you have verified.
Choose Star Wars when these statements are true
- The family wants to play through all nine Skywalker Saga films and choose a trilogy starting point.
- Your children value a large roster, vehicle variety, planetary travel, quests, and upgrades.
- They are comfortable with the listed blaster, lightsaber, staff, and Force combat descriptors.
- You want the Switch version’s explicitly listed one-to-two-player support, or you have confirmed the player count on another target platform.
- You are willing to compare Standard, Deluxe, and Galactic contents and manage the game’s in-game-purchase option.
A practical five-step decision method
- Ask the franchise question first. Have each player name the world they would choose if the other game were unavailable. If the answers are split, continue rather than forcing a vote based on feature counts.
- Screen the ESRB descriptors. Discuss ghosts, spiders, trolls, giant snakes, and wizard battles for Harry Potter; discuss punches, blasters, lightsabers, staffs, LEGO break-apart defeats, comic mischief, and in-game purchases for Star Wars.
- Choose the activity pattern. Select Harry Potter for magic, potions, lessons, puzzles, and duels; select Star Wars for planets, vehicles, quests, upgrades, character switching, and broader combat tools.
- Verify the hardware listing. Confirm the local platform’s player count, release edition, and region. The cited one-to-two-player evidence is specific to PS5 Harry Potter and Switch Star Wars.
- Compare the exact checkout contents. For Harry Potter, check whether the remastered Collection and its listed packs are included in your local edition. For Star Wars, compare Standard, Deluxe, Galactic, and character-pack options rather than relying on an old promotion.
What cannot be concluded from the official listings
The available product and rating pages do not prove which game is easier for a particular child, which has greater replay value, which runs better on every platform, or which delivers a better overall family experience. They also do not provide a fair, independent comparison of completion time, technical performance, or value for money. Treat the feature counts, player counts, release details, and descriptors as product information tied to the named source and platform, not as a guarantee about your household’s experience.
Final family recommendation
For a family choosing without a strong franchise preference, The Skywalker Saga is the more expansive option on paper: nine films, a publisher-listed roster of more than 300 playable characters, 23 planets, more than 100 vehicles, quests, upgrades, and multiple combat styles. For a family whose children specifically want Hogwarts, the Harry Potter Collection is the more coherent choice because its two games cover all seven school years and center on spells, potions, lessons, puzzles, and duels. Check the ESRB descriptors and the exact local platform listing before purchase; those practical details matter more than declaring one title the universal family winner.
