If your usual cricket app or website is down, the legal fallback depends on two details: the exact match and the country where you are watching now. Open the tournament organiser’s official broadcaster listing first, then use another channel, app, website or radio service that the listing names for that same event and territory. There is no single replacement service that carries every cricket match worldwide.
Start with the fixture and your current country
Cricket rights are sold for particular competitions, matches and territories. A service that carries one series may not carry the next, and a broadcaster’s rights in one country do not automatically apply when you travel. Before searching for an alternative, write down:
- the tournament or series;
- the teams and match date;
- your current country, not merely the country where you bought a subscription; and
- whether you need live video, a television channel, or audio commentary.
Use the event organiser’s official broadcaster page as the authoritative starting point. For International Cricket Council events, the ICC broadcaster listing and its ICC.tv region guide identify the services authorised for each territory. Open the named provider’s own match page afterward to confirm the start time, blackout rules, sign-in requirements and whether the fixture is included.

A legal fallback procedure
1. Check the organiser’s broadcaster listing
Search the official tournament site for a page labelled “Where to watch,” “Broadcast partners” or “Broadcasters.” For ICC competitions, the official broadcaster listing is more reliable than a generic streaming search because it separates rights by territory and event. Check the page on the day of the match: rights announcements and product names can change during a tournament.

2. Look for a second authorised route in the same territory
A rights holder may provide both a linear television channel and a digital service. If the app you normally use is unavailable, the other route may still work. The alternative must be listed for your country and the same competition; do not infer coverage from a broadcaster’s logo or from its rights to another series.
3. Confirm that the specific match is included
Some agreements divide a tournament between channels, select matches, or different stages. On the provider’s current schedule, check the teams, date and competition name. A service can be an official partner yet omit a particular fixture, warm-up game or regional broadcast.
4. Check access conditions before you pay or register
Official listings establish who has rights, not the current price or sign-up process. A provider may require an account, a local payment method, a television subscription or a compatible application. Verify those details on the provider’s own page. Prices and promotional offers were not established for the examples below, so they should not be assumed.
5. Switch to authorised audio if video is unavailable
When a video stream is overloaded or inaccessible, check the organiser’s official audio feed and the radio partners named for your country. Audio rights are often separate from video rights and can remain available through a broadcaster’s website, app or radio network.
How the main authorised routes differ
The following examples come from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup held from 7 February to 8 March 2026. That tournament had 20 teams, 55 matches and was co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. These are illustrations of how an official rights table works, not permanent guarantees for other competitions.

What ICC.tv can and cannot do
ICC.tv is an event- and region-dependent service, not a universal replacement for every cricket stream. For the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, the ICC said remaining territories would receive live, free coverage on ICC.tv, with select matches also on the official ICC YouTube channel. At the same time, named rights holders served markets such as Australia, India, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, and the United States and Canada.

To use ICC.tv legally, open the event page while located in your current country and consult the region guide. If your territory has a named exclusive partner, ICC.tv may not show the match there. You should also distinguish a free stream from a free account: the event page and local terms determine whether registration or another access condition applies.
Women’s T20 World Cup example
The ICC’s Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 page listed live and free ICC.tv programming and said warm-up matches would stream globally on the official ICC YouTube channel. The page also described territory qualifications for Facebook access. Those arrangements apply to that event’s page; they should not be generalised to every women’s or men’s competition.
When radio or audio is the best fallback
For the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, the ICC announced English world-feed commentary globally through the ICC mobile app. It also named regional radio partners:
- BBC radio in the United Kingdom and Ireland;
- ABC and SEN in Australia;
- All India Radio in India; and
- Derana FM in Sri Lanka.
These are event-specific examples. For another tournament, look for a new audio-rights announcement or the organiser’s match page rather than assuming the same stations are carrying it.

Audio may be preferable on a limited connection because it uses less bandwidth than video, but it does not provide a legal video substitute. Check the commentary language and whether the feed is live, delayed or restricted to a particular territory.
Television channels, apps and websites: choose the route that fits
Linear television
A listed television channel can be the simplest alternative when a streaming app is down. Use your local television guide to find the channel and match start time. A channel’s tournament rights may still be divided among its outlets, so confirm the fixture rather than tuning in solely because the network is an official partner.
Official websites and mobile apps
Digital rights may be offered through a browser, a mobile app, or both. Check that you are using the provider’s current app in your country and that your account is entitled to the match. If the browser player fails, the official app may be an authorised second route; if the app is unavailable in your country’s app store, that is a territory or platform issue, not something a device can legally override.
Connected televisions and streaming players
A streaming media player can make an authorised app easier to use on a television. Dialog’s announcement for Sri Lanka described ICC streaming on smartphones, tablets and connected devices. Hardware does not grant match rights, remove regional restrictions or turn an unavailable service into an authorised one. Before buying or setting up a device, confirm that the rights holder has an app for that model in your country.
Territory examples from the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup
United Kingdom and Ireland
The ICC announcement identified Sky Sports Cricket and Sky Sports Main Event, with streaming on NOW. If one digital route is unavailable, check the other listed route and the local television schedule. For audio, the BBC partnership covered ICC events in the United Kingdom and Ireland during 2024–2027, including BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC 5 Sports Extra, bbc.co.uk and BBC Sounds.
Australia
Prime Video was the named video partner for the tournament. The ICC also identified ABC and SEN for audio commentary. Use the current match listing to determine whether you need the video service or one of those radio routes.

India
JioHotstar and Star Sports were listed as video partners. All India Radio was named among the event’s audio options. The listing does not establish that every match appeared on every Star Sports outlet or that the digital and linear schedules were identical.
United States and Canada
Willow TV was the named video partner. Check its live schedule for the exact fixture and any local access requirement. Do not substitute a broadcaster from another territory simply because it carries the same tournament elsewhere.
Sri Lanka
The ICC announcement named Dialog TV, ThePapare.com and Dialog Play, alongside free-to-air partner TV Supreme and PEO TV. Dialog Axiata separately announced ICC rights in Sri Lanka for 2026–2028, including over-the-top and mobile rights and a free-to-air collaboration with TV Supreme. Because product names and arrangements can differ between announcements and later updates, use the current event listing before choosing a route. Derana FM was named as an audio option for the 2026 men’s tournament.

The usual app is down, but the match is listed
- Check the provider’s service-status notice and match page.
- Try the provider’s official browser player or supported television app.
- Look for the same territory’s listed linear channel.
- If video remains unavailable, open the organiser’s authorised audio or radio listing.
The match does not appear in the app
Confirm the competition, date and teams. Then check whether your current country has a different rights holder. An account created in another country does not prove that the service has rights where you are now.
The stream works on a phone but not a television
Verify that the official service supports your television or streaming player in your country. You can continue on the supported phone or tablet while checking compatibility. Installing different hardware will not change geographic eligibility.
A free link appears on social media
Return to the organiser’s broadcaster page and follow only the official provider link or the organiser’s own verified channel. Unauthorised restreams can disappear, expose you to malware or violate the event’s rights restrictions.

- Identify the exact match, tournament and date.
- Record the country where you are watching now.
- Open the organiser’s official broadcaster listing.
- Write down every authorised video and linear-TV route shown for that territory.
- Check the provider’s own schedule for the fixture and current access conditions.
- If video fails, consult the event’s official audio and local radio partners.
- For ICC.tv, read the region guide instead of assuming global access.
- For a television player, confirm the official app is supported locally; treat the device only as playback hardware.
Keeping the answer current
Broadcast rights are event-specific and can be updated after an initial announcement. Recheck the organiser’s page when the match date approaches, especially for knockout stages, warm-up games, free-to-air selections and changes in app branding. The 2026 examples above show why: the ICC named different video partners by territory, while audio routes and selected YouTube coverage were announced separately. A legal recommendation is only as accurate as its fixture, country and date.
