For most Solana users buying a wallet today, the Ledger Nano S Plus is the value choice for holding SOL, receiving tokens and making occasional transactions from a desk or home. Choose the Nano X if Bluetooth and phone-based use matter, or choose the Flex or Stax if you approve transactions often and want a larger touchscreen. Ledger Atom is a different proposition: it is a connected device announced on October 15, 2026, with a hardened mobile operating system, planned Solana Mobile integration and an estimated summer 2027 shipment. A reservation is not a finished product or a current replacement for a Nano.

This guide separates what is available now from what Atom promises, explains the Solana features Ledger documents, and gives a workflow-based way to choose without treating a newer design as automatically safer.

The short answer

Choose When it makes sense for a Solana user Main compromise
Nano S Plus You want the lowest-cost current entry point and will use the wallet mostly at home. Small classic screen and no Atom-style connected mobile operating system.
Nano X You want a portable signer with Bluetooth for phone use. It remains a classic hardware signer rather than an all-in-one connected device.
Nano Gen5 You prefer the newer Nano-family form factor and touchscreen workflow. Its value depends on the price and availability in your market when you buy.
Flex You inspect many transactions and want a larger, clearer touchscreen. Higher-end pricing and a larger device than the basic Nano models.
Stax You want the most premium, largest curved-touchscreen experience in the current range. Premium positioning and cost for users who may not need the extra display area.
Atom You specifically want a connected signer with mobile apps and are willing to wait for a developing product. It is still in development; specifications, price, appearance, apps and delivery timing can change.

No official material establishes an independent statistic showing that one Ledger model is safer or more reliable than another. The practical differences are the documented security architecture, Solana compatibility, screen readability, connectivity, portability, availability and product maturity.

What a hardware wallet does for Solana

A hardware wallet keeps the private keys used to control a Solana account in a Secure Element and requires a physical approval on the device before a transaction is signed. The phone or computer can display an unsigned transaction, but the signing key is not simply exposed to that host. This separation is the reason a hardware wallet is useful even when you interact with Solana through a browser wallet.

#1 Best Overall

  • Effortlessly build your crypto portfolio via the all in one Ledger Wallet app: buy, sell, send, receive, swap, stake and more across popular blockchains. 15,000+ coins & tokens in a single dashboard. Keep a close eye on the market. Compare service providers. Track performance. Get timely alerts. Build your portfolio with confidence.
  • Enjoy Bluetooth connectivity, iOS access, and hours of battery use with this mobile-first, secure backup signer. Freedom you can depend on.
  • Genuine Check: confirm your signer is authentic during setup with the Ledger Wallet app.
  • Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.

Ledger’s Solana documentation says its devices can buy, send and receive SOL and SPL tokens, and can stake SOL. Its supported-assets database lists SOL for send, receive, buy, swap and stake operations, as well as connection to compatible third-party wallets. Developer documentation lists Wallet Standard connection, disconnect, message signing, transaction signing, sign-and-send, and support for both legacy and version-0 Solana transactions.

Those capabilities do not make every Solana application interchangeable. A dApp must support the wallet connection method and transaction format, and you must still understand what you are approving. Installing a third-party wallet only from its official site and checking the transaction on the Ledger display are core safety practices. Pairing a Ledger signer with an interface such as Phantom can make Solana use more convenient while retaining hardware approval.

Current Ledger models in detail

Nano S Plus: the sensible stationary choice

The Nano S Plus is the straightforward recommendation for a user whose priority is current availability and a lower-cost path to self-custody. Its small screen supports the classic Ledger approval flow: connect the device, open the relevant Solana application, inspect the transaction details shown on the device and confirm physically.

It is well suited to an account that mostly holds SOL or SPL tokens, receives funds and sends them occasionally. Keeping it at a desk also reduces the importance of wireless convenience. The trade-off is ergonomic rather than a documented security deficit: the screen is smaller and the workflow is less convenient when you approve many transactions in a session. It does not provide Atom’s connected mobile operating system.

Nano X: Bluetooth for mobile and travel

The Nano X targets users who move between a phone and a computer or who want a more portable classic signer. Bluetooth can remove the cable from compatible mobile workflows, which is the reason to pay more than the basic Nano model. It still follows the same fundamental pattern of a hardware-protected key and physical confirmation.

For Solana, the Nano X is attractive when you regularly use a mobile wallet interface, travel with the device or dislike plugging in for every interaction. Bluetooth does not eliminate the need to read and approve details on the Ledger itself, and it does not turn the Nano X into a general-purpose phone. If you transact only a few times a year from one desk, the extra connectivity may add little value.

Nano Gen5: newer Nano-family workflow

Nano Gen5 is a current Nano-family option with a newer form factor and touchscreen-oriented workflow. It is worth considering if the physical design and screen interaction appeal to you more than the classic Nano layout.

Because its final value depends on local price and stock, compare the actual listing available in your country with the Nano S Plus and Nano X rather than assuming that a newer generation is automatically a better purchase. Check the Solana application support and the connection method you intend to use before ordering.

  • This is what security feels like: Ledger touchscreen signers all come with a private, offline, PIN-protected backup, Ledger Recovery Key, to never lose access to your assets.

Flex: readability for frequent approvals

Flex is aimed at people who approve transactions often and want a larger touchscreen. More display area makes addresses, amounts and application prompts easier to inspect than on a small Nano screen. That can reduce friction when using Solana dApps, swapping assets or reviewing several staking-related actions in one session.

The benefit is clarity and comfort, not a published claim of superior cryptographic security. If your activity consists of receiving SOL and making an occasional transfer, the larger display may not justify the higher-end positioning. If you routinely interact with unfamiliar contracts or long transaction details, the readability can be a meaningful operational advantage.

Stax: the premium curved-screen experience

Stax occupies the premium end of the current range and emphasizes the largest, curved touchscreen experience. It is appropriate for a user who values a highly readable interface and a distinctive form factor more than minimum cost or smallest size.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

As with Flex, the documented distinction is the user interface and physical design. There is no independent head-to-head test in the available material proving that Stax is safer or more reliable than a Nano. Buy it for the way you will review and approve transactions, not for an unverified security ranking.

Ledger Atom: what the 2026 announcement actually means

A connected device with separate security environments

Ledger announced Atom on October 15, 2026, describing it as a security and privacy device that can run everyday apps while Ledger OS protects keys, secrets and approvals in a secure environment. The Atom whitepaper describes two physically separate chips or environments:

  • A hardened Mobile OS for everyday connected applications.
  • Ledger OS for the recovery seed, private keys, PIN and transaction signing.

When a sensitive action occurs, Secure Mode takes over the trusted display. The design goal is to let a user live on a connected signer without surrendering the security properties associated with a dedicated Ledger signer. Ledger Chairman and CEO Pascal Gauthier summarized the launch by writing, “Now, with Ledger Atom™, a security and privacy device launched at Ledger Op3n 2026, Ledger protects everything you value.”

Published Atom hardware and connectivity

Feature What Ledger has stated
Display 6.8-inch AMOLED screen.
Security Secure Element and a separate Ledger OS security environment.
Battery 4,000 mAh.
Mobile data eSIM-only 4G/5G connectivity.
Wireless connections Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC.
Privacy control Physical privacy switch.
Software status Still in development; specifications and app availability may change.

The combination is fundamentally different from a Nano X. Nano X adds Bluetooth to a conventional hardware-wallet workflow; Atom is intended to be a connected mobile platform with a separate trusted signing environment. That may make Solana dApp use more direct, but it also introduces more product variables that cannot be judged until the final hardware and software ship.

Solana plans for Atom

Ledger says the Seeker app will be preinstalled on every Atom. The app is intended to provide access to the Solana dApp Store and its stated catalog of more than 1,500 apps. Ledger also announced planned Solana Mobile integration and said additional partners would be announced. A final partner roster and final app availability are not published.

Ledger Nano Gen5 - Crypto Wallet - Securely Buy Digital Assets - Black | Easy-to-use, customizabe, 2.8" touchcreen signer with private backup and scam protection
  • More than just crypto: confirm your device is authentic with Genuine Check, manage all your logins with Ledger Security Key, detect common scams with Transaction Check and more.
  • Industry-defining security: battle-tested by the Donjon's white hat hackers, protected by the Secure Element, and powered by Ledger OS.
  • Connect effortlessly with Ledger Wallet: pair your secure Ledger signer with the all in one Ledger Wallet crypto app to manage thousands of digital assets across multiple devices and accounts with Ledger Sync from a single, secure dashboard.
  • Playful, user-friendly design: monitor the market, compare rates and Clear Sign all transactions on the secure 2.8'' anti-glare, scratch-resistant touchscreen.
  • This is what security feels like: Ledger touchscreen signers all come with a private, offline, PIN-protected backup, Ledger Recovery Key, to never lose access to your assets.

These statements describe an intended ecosystem, not a guarantee that every Solana application will work on launch. Wallet connection standards, transaction formats, regional availability and individual dApp support will still determine what you can do.

Reservation, price and delivery status

Atom reservations are not purchases of a finished product. Ledger’s launch material states a $100 refundable reservation deposit and an $849 special reserve price, subject to the reservation disclosures. Delivery is targeted for summer 2027, also described as Q2 2027. That is an estimate rather than a commitment.

Price, appearance, specifications and app availability may change before shipping. Treat the reservation as an option to receive a future device, not as immediate access to a Solana hardware wallet. If you need to secure SOL now, choose a currently available signer instead.

Is Atom better than Nano X for Solana?

Not on evidence available today. Atom offers a larger display, cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity, a mobile operating system and planned Solana Mobile integration. Nano X is a current, established classic signer with Bluetooth. The better choice depends on whether you value a phone-like connected experience enough to wait for a product whose final form is not fixed.

There is no published independent head-to-head statistic demonstrating that Atom will be safer, faster or more reliable than Nano X. A fair comparison today is “current product versus future design,” not “old security versus new security.”

Match the wallet to your Solana workflow

Holding SOL and occasional transfers

Choose Nano S Plus when the wallet will remain at home and you will approve transactions infrequently. You get the documented Solana functions without paying for connectivity or a large display you may rarely use.

Mobile use and travel

Choose Nano X when Bluetooth materially improves your phone workflow or when portability is important. The premium is justified by convenience only if you will use that convenience; a desk-bound user gains little from wireless pairing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Staking SOL

Ledger’s supported-assets information lists SOL staking. Select the model based on how you will manage the account: Nano S Plus is adequate for occasional staking actions, while Flex or Stax can make repeated review of instructions easier. The wallet protects signing keys; it does not remove validator, network or smart-contract risks, so inspect every staking transaction before approval.

  • Choose the colors that match your style: express your personality and your crypto management mood, color code your signers, one for each use (trading, staking, HOLDing...).

Frequent dApp interaction

Frequent dApp users should prioritize screen readability and a connection method that fits their host device. Flex and Stax make long details easier to inspect. Nano X is practical when mobile Bluetooth matters. Atom may eventually provide the most integrated connected experience, but its software and partner support remain future-facing.

Travel or backup signer

For travel, Nano X’s portable form and Bluetooth are useful. For a backup device kept in a secure location, Nano S Plus can be sufficient because wireless features are irrelevant when the device is stored. Keep the recovery phrase separate from the device; possession of both defeats the point of geographic separation.

How Ledger’s Solana workflow works

  1. Initialize the device from Ledger’s official software. Create or restore the wallet on the device itself and write the recovery phrase offline. Never type the phrase into a website, message or ordinary computer file.
  2. Install the Solana application. Use Ledger’s official device-management interface and its application catalog. Confirm that the device recognizes the Solana app before connecting a wallet interface.
  3. Connect a compatible wallet interface. A Solana wallet such as Phantom can pair with the Ledger signer. Wallet Standard is among the connection methods listed in Ledger’s developer documentation. Download the interface only from its official site or app listing.
  4. Verify the receiving address on the Ledger display. Do not rely solely on the address shown by the computer or phone. Confirm the account and network before sending SOL or SPL tokens.
  5. Prepare the transaction in the wallet or dApp. The host prepares the transaction; the Ledger remains the signing authority. The documented Solana support includes legacy and version-0 transactions, message signing, transaction signing and sign-and-send.
  6. Read the trusted display before approving. Check the destination, amount, fee and application prompt shown on the device. Reject anything that differs from your intention or that you do not understand.
  7. Confirm physically on the Ledger. The transaction is not authorized until you approve it on the device. A connected phone or browser cannot substitute for that physical action.
  8. Disconnect when finished. Close the wallet connection and store the device and recovery materials securely, especially when using a shared or travel computer.

Security practices that matter more than the model number

  • Protect the recovery phrase. Anyone who obtains it can recreate the wallet. Keep it offline and never photograph, email or paste it into a support form.
  • Use official software sources. Ledger specifically advises installing third-party wallets only from their official sites. Fake wallet downloads are a more realistic threat than a small difference between two Ledger models.
  • Read every approval on the device. Solana dApps can request signatures that are not ordinary transfers. If the trusted display is unclear or the request is unexpected, reject it and investigate.
  • Check addresses during receiving. Malware can replace a copied address. Compare the address shown by the host with the address confirmed on the Ledger screen.
  • Keep firmware and applications current through official channels. Update only when the device-management software identifies the package and you understand what is changing.
  • Separate daily funds from long-term holdings. Use an account with only the amount needed for experimental dApps, while keeping long-term SOL in a less frequently connected account.
  • Plan for loss or failure. Test that your recovery phrase is legible and stored safely before the device is lost. Do not reveal it while troubleshooting a connection problem.

Question Why it matters for Solana
Are private keys held in a hardware-protected environment? Confirms the device’s central security purpose instead of relying on a phone or browser alone.
Is physical approval required for every signature? Prevents a compromised host from silently authorizing a transaction.
Does it support SOL and SPL tokens? Basic asset compatibility is separate from support for staking, swaps or dApps.
Does it support legacy and version-0 Solana transactions? Applications may use either transaction format.
Which connection standards are implemented? Wallet Standard, USB, Bluetooth or other methods determine whether your preferred wallet interface can connect.
Can you read the full transaction on the trusted display? Readable confirmation is essential when approving addresses, amounts and application requests.
How are firmware updates and recovery handled? Clear, official recovery procedures reduce the chance of phishing or permanent loss.
Is the product shipping now? A reservation or announcement should not be treated as a current signer.

Do not infer that a competing device is safer merely because it has a larger display, cellular connectivity or a newer release date. Look for documented architecture, supported Solana workflows and a mature update and recovery process.

Costs, availability and timing

Current Nano, Flex and Stax prices vary by region, taxes, promotions and stock; no single global price is stated here. Check the official listing for your country at the time of purchase and verify that the exact model is available for immediate shipment.

Atom is the only model in this comparison with a published reservation figure: a $100 refundable deposit and an $849 special reserve price, subject to the reservation terms. The target of Q2 or summer 2027 is an estimate. Because the device is still in development, a reservation should be evaluated as a future-product commitment rather than as a substitute for a wallet you can initialize and use today.

A practical buying decision

  1. Need a signer now? Exclude Atom from the immediate purchase and choose among the current models.
  2. Use it mainly at home? Start with Nano S Plus unless a larger screen is important to you.
  3. Use a phone or travel often? Compare Nano X’s Bluetooth convenience with the price difference in your market.
  4. Approve many transactions? Favor Flex or Stax for the larger touchscreen and easier review.
  5. Want a newer Nano design? Consider Nano Gen5 after checking local availability, Solana support and price.
  6. Want a connected Solana device and can wait? Atom may fit, but reserve only if you accept changing specifications, an estimated 2027 delivery and the distinction between a reservation and a shipped product.

The right Ledger for Solana is therefore determined less by a model-number hierarchy than by when you need it, how often you sign, where you use it and how much screen or wireless convenience improves your actual workflow.
