For most Android-first buyers, the Ledger Nano X is the best all-round choice. It connects to Android by USB-C or Bluetooth, while the Ledger Nano S Plus is the simpler wired option for people who use a cable and do not need iPhone support. Ledger Flex and Ledger Stax add larger touchscreens, Bluetooth, USB-C and NFC, but their premium features matter mainly if reviewing transactions on a larger display or using wireless charging is worth the extra cost.
Your decision should start with four checks: how you want to connect, whether you also use iOS, how much screen space you need to verify transactions, and whether the exact coin and network you use are supported. A hardware wallet protects private keys, but it cannot make an unsupported network work or stop you from approving a misleading transaction on a compromised phone.
Which Ledger wallet should an Android user buy?
Choose the Ledger Nano X hardware wallet if you regularly manage crypto from an Android phone, want wireless pairing, or may also use an iPhone. Choose the Ledger Nano S Plus if you prefer a lower-complexity, cable-only setup and normally work from one Android phone or a desktop. Consider Ledger Flex or Ledger Stax when a larger touchscreen is a meaningful accessibility or transaction-review benefit rather than simply a newer specification.
| Model | Android connection | Best fit | Main trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ledger Nano X | USB-C and Bluetooth; the current store specification lists Android 10 or later | Frequent phone use, wireless convenience, and people who may also use iPhone | Battery and Bluetooth add components to manage; the monochrome screen is small |
| Ledger Nano S Plus | USB-C cable; Android and desktop | Cost-conscious or stationary users who are happy with a cable | No Bluetooth and no iOS support; a data-capable cable is required |
| Ledger Flex | USB-C, Bluetooth and NFC | Users who want a larger touchscreen and NFC features | Premium model; verify current price and regional availability |
| Ledger Stax | USB-C, Bluetooth and NFC; Qi wireless charging | Users prioritising a large touchscreen and wireless charging | Premium model; verify current price and regional availability |
Nano X and Nano S Plus provide the same category of offline key protection and support Clear Signing. Ledger describes the classic signers as offering the same offline protection, while warning that their small OLED screens limit how much of a complex transaction can be reviewed at once. Flex and Stax primarily change the interaction experience with a larger touchscreen and additional wireless features.

How Android compatibility differs by model
Ledger Nano X: USB-C or Bluetooth
The current Nano X product specification lists Android 10 or later. You can connect it to an Android phone with a USB-C data cable or pair it over Bluetooth. Bluetooth is useful when the phone is your main wallet-management device, but it does not eliminate the need to inspect every address and transaction on the Ledger screen.
The Nano X has a built-in battery for wireless use. If the battery is empty, use USB-C instead. Keeping a cable available also gives you a predictable fallback when Bluetooth pairing, permissions or radio interference cause trouble.
Ledger Nano S Plus: wired Android and desktop use
The Nano S Plus connects through USB-C and works with Android and desktop computers. It does not support iOS. This is a good fit if you are comfortable keeping the signer beside your phone or computer and do not want a battery or wireless pairing process.
Use a USB-C cable that carries data, not a charge-only lead. A cable that powers the device but does not pass data can make the wallet appear defective even though the hardware is working.
Ledger Flex and Ledger Stax: larger displays and NFC
Flex and Stax support USB-C, Bluetooth and NFC. Stax also supports Qi wireless charging. Their larger touchscreens can make long addresses, token details and Clear Signing prompts easier to inspect than the small monochrome displays on Nano X and Nano S Plus.

- Simply & securely take control of your digital assets and identity with the all-in-one Ledger Wallet crypto app and Ledger Flex touchscreen signer.
- Digital asset control at your fingertips: manage 15,000+ crypto across multiple chains. Earn rewards. Top up & share with ease. Explore DeFi with confidence. Collect and showcase NFTs. Make informed choices with clarity.
- Connect effortlessly with Ledger Wallet: pair your secure Ledger signer with the all in one Ledger Wallet crypto app to manage thousands of digital assets across multiple devices and accounts with Ledger Sync from a single, secure dashboard.
- Cutting-edge design: monitor the market, compare rates, and Clear Sign transactions on the secure, high resolution, 2.8'' E Ink touchscreen.
- This is what security feels like: Ledger touchscreen signers all come with a private, offline, PIN-protected backup, Ledger Recovery Key, to never lose access to your assets.
These models are still subject to the same network and application requirements as the classic signers. A larger screen does not expand coin support, and NFC does not replace checking the exact destination and amount on the device.
What you need before setting up a Ledger on Android
- A genuine device: Buy from Ledger or an authorised retailer. Do not use a device that arrives with a recovery phrase already written down or any request to reveal your phrase.
- The official Ledger Wallet Android app: Obtain it from an official Ledger source and check the publisher before installing.
- A compatible USB-C data cable: Nano S Plus always needs one; Nano X can use one for wired operation or charging. Keep a spare only when you have confirmed that it is data-capable and fits the device.
- Recovery backup materials: Use the supplied recovery sheets or an approved offline backup method. Store the words away from the wallet and from other valuables.
- Your exact asset and network: Identify the coin, chain, token standard and transaction features you intend to use before purchase.
- A current phone and device: Update Android, install the latest official app and apply device-firmware updates through the official workflow.
Never photograph, email, paste or type the recovery words into your phone, a browser, a password manager, a support form or any other software. Anyone who obtains those words can generally recreate the wallet without your physical device.

- Inspect the package. Confirm that the device came from Ledger or an authorised seller and that no recovery phrase was supplied in advance. If anything asks you to enter the phrase online, stop.
- Install the official app. Download Ledger Wallet from an official Ledger source. Avoid search-ad results, unofficial APK files, links sent by strangers and remote-support instructions.
- Update the phone and signer. Install available Android updates, then follow the official app’s instructions for device firmware. Keep the signer connected and do not interrupt an update.
- Initialise the signer on its own screen. Create a new wallet on the device unless you are deliberately performing a documented recovery. The device, not the phone, must generate and display the recovery words.
- Write the recovery words offline. Record every word in order on the supplied sheets and verify the device’s confirmation prompts. Keep the backup in a secure, separate location; do not make a digital copy.
- Connect the device. Pair Nano X by Bluetooth or connect it by USB-C. Connect Nano S Plus by USB-C. Grant only the Android permissions required for the connection and app to function.
- Install only necessary applications. Add the coin applications required for your intended networks. Fewer installed applications make account management easier, although installing an application does not itself hold your funds.
- Add accounts. Add accounts in Ledger Wallet or, where required, in the official third-party wallet for that network. Obtain third-party wallet software from that project’s official website.
- Verify on the hardware screen. When receiving, compare the address shown in the app with the address shown on the Ledger. When sending, inspect the destination, amount, network, fees and any contract or token details on the physical display before approving.
- Run a small test. Send or receive a small amount first. Confirm that it arrives on the intended network before transferring a larger balance.
- Separate the backup. Keep the recovery backup away from the device, phone and everyday workspace so one theft or incident does not remove both access paths.
What Bluetooth does—and does not—protect
Ledger’s Bluetooth security explanation states: “Only public data is transported by Bluetooth; critical data (such as private keys and seed) never leave the device.” The private keys and recovery seed remain inside the signer, and the phone communicates with it to prepare public information and transactions.
That design limits the damage a hostile phone or Bluetooth connection can do directly to the keys. It does not make the phone trustworthy. Malware can replace a destination address, alter an amount or present a deceptive contract interaction. If you approve what appears on the hardware screen without reading it, the signer can faithfully authorize the wrong transaction.
- Pair only with your own phone and remove old Bluetooth pairings you no longer use.
- Keep Android, the Ledger app and device firmware current.
- Confirm the full address and network on the physical screen, not only in the app.
- Reject unexpected prompts, “support” requests and recovery checks that ask for the phrase.
- Use a small-value test transaction whenever you change an address, network or third-party wallet.
Asset and network support: check before buying
Hardware compatibility is network-specific. Ledger’s supported-assets directory says its list is “not exhaustive and subject to change.” The current product specifications give different headline counts: the Nano X page lists 500-plus crypto assets supported through the Ledger Wallet app, while the Nano S Plus page lists 15,000-plus supported crypto assets. These figures are product-page descriptions accessed on October 16, 2026, not a guarantee that every asset can be managed in the same app or with the same features.

- This is what security feels like: Ledger touchscreen signers all come with a private, offline, PIN-protected backup, Ledger Recovery Key, to never lose access to your assets.
A device may protect keys for an asset while requiring a separate wallet interface for account creation, staking, swaps, NFTs or a particular token standard. Before ordering, verify all of the following for the exact network you plan to use:
- The asset name and network, including similarly named chains.
- Whether Ledger Wallet supports the account directly or an official third-party wallet is required.
- Whether the features you need—transfers, staking, smart-contract signing or NFTs—are available.
- Whether the third-party wallet supports Android and your chosen connection method.
- Whether firmware or application versions impose additional requirements.
Do not infer support from a ticker symbol alone. Tokens with the same symbol can exist on several networks, and sending to the wrong chain can make recovery difficult or impossible.

You manage crypto from an Android phone every day
Nano X is the practical default because Bluetooth avoids carrying a cable for routine checks and signing. Keep USB-C available as a charging and troubleshooting path, and continue to verify transactions on the signer.
You use one desk and want the fewest moving parts
Nano S Plus is the straightforward choice. It has no wireless pairing or battery to maintain, but you must keep a compatible data cable connected when using it and cannot use it with iOS.
You sometimes use an iPhone
Nano X, Flex or Stax are the models in this comparison with Bluetooth and broader phone flexibility. Nano S Plus is not an iOS option, so it is unsuitable if iPhone access is part of your plan.

- All your digital assets in one place. You can manage thousands of crypto including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Tether and more.
- Connectivity: USB-C cable connection only. No Bluetooth.Compatible with the Ledger Wallet crypto app, both desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and mobile (Android only). Not compatible with iOS.
- Protect your digital assets with the industry's best security: keep your private keys offline in your private signer, battle-tested by the Donjon's white hat hackers, CC EAL 6+ certified Secure Element, constantly updated Ledger OS.
- Effortlessly build your crypto portfolio via the all in one Ledger Wallet app: buy, sell, send, receive, swap, stake and more across popular blockchains. 15,000+ coins & tokens in a single dashboard. Keep a close eye on the market. Compare service providers. Track performance. Get timely alerts. Build your portfolio with confidence.
- Choose the colors that match your style: express your personality and your crypto management mood, color code your signers, one for each use (trading, staking, HOLDing...).
You have difficulty reading small transaction screens
Flex or Stax may justify their premium position because the touchscreen is larger. A larger display can make review easier, but you still need to understand the network and transaction being approved.
You want wireless charging or NFC workflows
Stax is the model in this group that adds Qi wireless charging. Flex and Stax include NFC. Treat those as convenience features; they do not change the recovery-phrase rules or the need for hardware-screen verification.
Common setup problems and fixes
The phone sees the wallet but the app cannot connect
- For USB-C, replace the cable with a confirmed data cable and try another phone port or adapter.
- For Nano X Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth off and on, remove the old pairing, restart the phone and pair from inside the official app.
- Keep the signer unlocked and approve the connection prompt on its own screen.
- Close other wallet applications that may be holding the connection.
The device will not update
Use the official app, a stable connection and sufficient battery or USB power. Do not disconnect during firmware installation. If the app reports a specific recovery or repair path, follow that documented path rather than entering the recovery words into a website or support chat.
An asset or account is missing
Check the exact network and account type first. Confirm whether the asset requires an official third-party wallet, then install that wallet only from its official source. A missing account in one interface does not necessarily mean the keys or funds are gone.

The displayed receiving address differs
Stop and do not send funds. Compare the address on the Ledger screen with the app, check the network and investigate the phone or browser for malware. Use a newly generated address only after you understand why the mismatch occurred.
You lost the phone or the Ledger device
The recovery words, not the phone or signer, are the backup to the wallet. Obtain a replacement compatible signer, follow its official recovery procedure offline and never disclose the words to a person or website. If the words may have been exposed, move assets to a newly generated wallet immediately using a trusted, clean setup.
Maintaining the wallet safely
- Keep the signer and recovery backup in separate secure locations.
- Periodically confirm that you can read the recovery backup without copying it into a digital device.
- Install only applications and firmware offered through official channels.
- Review every transaction on the physical display, especially smart-contract approvals and unfamiliar networks.
- Do not rely on Bluetooth, NFC or a large screen as a substitute for checking addresses, amounts and fees.
- Recheck the live supported-assets directory before adding a new coin; compatibility can change.
Bottom line: the sensible Android purchase
Buy the Ledger Nano X when Android is your primary interface and wireless connectivity or possible iPhone use matters. Buy the Ledger Nano S Plus when a USB-C cable is acceptable and you want a simple Android-and-desktop signer without Bluetooth. Choose Flex or Stax only when their larger touchscreens, NFC or—in Stax’s case—Qi charging solve a real usability need. Whichever model you select, the most important equipment is an uncompromised recovery backup and the habit of confirming every transaction on the hardware itself.
