Riot Games will end the current run of League Classic after 2026 Season 3. Riot Support lists January 6, 2027 as the final day of availability, while Riot’s developer announcement says the mode may return later as a rotating event mode with adjustments and additions. No return date or final ruleset has been announced.
When does League Classic shut down?
The current League Classic run remains playable through Season 3 of 2026 and ends on January 6, 2027. Riot’s October 14, 2026 announcement describes this as the end of the mode’s “current run,” rather than a permanent retirement. Riot says most players have moved back to other parts of League, but it did not publish player counts, retention figures, queue volumes or other statistics supporting that explanation.

January 6 is the specific date supplied by Riot Support: Classic is available through the end of Season 3 Act II, until that date. Players should treat the Support date as the operational deadline, because the developer post describes the timing by season rather than naming a calendar day.

Riot’s stated goal is to bring Classic back in the future, likely as an event mode with adjustments and additions. That wording establishes an intention, not a confirmed relaunch. Riot has not announced when it will return, how long a future run will last, which regions will receive matchmaking, or what parts of the current ruleset will change.

A future event version could therefore differ from the current Classic experience in its availability schedule, progression, rewards, monetization and gameplay additions. Until Riot publishes those details, the January 2027 mode and a possible later event should be considered separate offerings.
How access changes before the shutdown
Beginning with patch 26.21, Riot is changing access in lower-play-rate regions. Some servers will use scheduled matchmaking windows instead of continuous queue availability. The listed windows are based on each region’s server time.
| Region or group | Matchmade queue access from patch 26.21 | Custom games |
|---|---|---|
| Korea, Latin America North, Latin America South, Taiwan, Vietnam, Turkey, Southeast Asia, Oceania and Russia | Monday–Friday, 4 p.m. to midnight; Saturday–Sunday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. | Available at all times |
| JP1 and ME1 | Custom matches only | Available at all times |
| All other regions | Riot’s announcement does not specify a new restriction | Available at all times |
The practical distinction is between standard matchmade play, scheduled queue windows and custom-match-only access. If your server is in the windowed group, a queue can be unavailable outside the listed hours even though Classic itself has not yet reached its January 6 end date. Custom Classic games remain available in every region until the mode’s availability ends.

What happens to Classic purchases and the final Battle Pass?
Riot says it is issuing refunds for Classic-specific content that will no longer be usable after the current run. The announcement does not provide a universal refund amount or a separate schedule for every item, so players should monitor the account or transaction notices Riot applies to their purchases.
The Act II Classic Battle Pass shipping with patch 26.21 will use one unified free track. From that patch onward, the Classic store will contain only champions, runes and rune pages. Classic-specific cosmetic or other content that depends on the ending run is therefore not being sold in the final store period.
What progression remains in Classic?
Classic has its own digital progression system. Classic Account Level starts at 0 and reaches a maximum of 30, and leveling is free for everyone. Classic missions and matches award Classic XP.

Rewards through level 30
- Mastery pages and rune slots
- Influence Points and Blue Essence
- Icons, portraits and emotes
- A player title
- The RUSTIER Blitzcrank Classic skin at level 30
The daily mission resets at 11 a.m. Pacific Time. Wins can award Influence Points, Classic Pass Coins and Classic XP. Weekly missions can also be completed through Classic and standard League; one weekly mission additionally allows progress through Teamfight Tactics.
Summoner’s Journey
Summoner’s Journey unlocks at Classic Level 10. It is a progression and ranking system inside Classic, not a separate queue. It uses Seasonal Points and a hidden matchmaking rating, so reaching the feature does not create another game mode to select.
What players should do before January 6
- Check your server schedule after patch 26.21. Confirm whether your region has windowed queues or custom-match-only access.
- Finish time-sensitive missions. Use the daily reset at 11 a.m. Pacific Time and complete weekly objectives through eligible League modes.
- Plan for level 30. The RUSTIER Blitzcrank Classic skin is tied to the Classic level track’s maximum level.
- Review Classic purchases. Riot says unusable Classic-specific content will be refunded, but keep account and transaction records in case support requests details.
- Use custom games when matchmaking is closed. Custom Classic games remain available in all regions during the final run.

Riot has not announced whether current levels, rewards or Summoner’s Journey progress will carry over. The only confirmed details are the current level track from 0 to 30 and the planned end of this run.
Is January 6, 2027 the same as the end of Season 3?
Riot Support identifies January 6 as the end of Classic availability through Season 3 Act II. The developer announcement describes the timing as the end of Season 3, so January 6 is the specific operational date players should use.
