Neither LARQ nor Sans is proven to clean better overall. The manufacturers publish different bacteria claims under different test conditions, so their percentages are not directly comparable. Sans is the value-oriented choice on the reviewed listing, which showed a 17-ounce bottle for $79.99; LARQ is the better-documented choice if you want detailed cleaning modes and care guidance. Those prices and terms can change.
Is LARQ or Sans better?
Choose based on what matters to you, not the headline bacteria percentages. Sans lists a 17-ounce capacity, two-week battery life, and a $79.99 displayed price. LARQ publishes more detail about the PureVis 2 cleaning modes and how to care for its bottle. Neither comparison establishes an independently verified efficacy winner.
| Feature | Sans Self-Cleaning Water Bottle | LARQ Bottle PureVis |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 17 oz, according to Sans’s product page. | The reviewed product page lists options; the precise size depends on the model selected. See LARQ’s product page. |
| Published UV-C claim | Sans claims 99.9% bacteria elimination, including E. coli and Staphylococcus, in a three-minute cycle. This is a manufacturer claim. | LARQ reports 99.8% E. coli elimination in a 20-second cycle on its technology page. This is a manufacturer claim. |
| Published modes | Corresponding cycle doses and modes were not stated on the reviewed product page. | PureVis 2 has an automatic 10-second cycle every two hours, a one-minute Normal Mode at 12 mJ/cm², and a three-minute Adventure Mode above 30 mJ/cm². These are PureVis 2 specifications, not a description of every LARQ generation. |
| Insulation | Sans lists up to 12 hours hot and 24 hours cold. | LARQ lists up to 12 hours hot and 24 hours cold for its insulated PureVis model. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent comparative thermal test results. |
| Battery life | Two weeks, according to Sans. | Older official PureVis product-page material says up to a month. Check the exact generation; that figure should not be assumed for PureVis 2. |
| Price and terms shown in reviewed listings | $79.99 displayed, with a 30-day trial and one-year warranty. Verify the current listing and terms. | The reviewed product page states a one-year warranty; a directly comparable current price was not established. |

Pick LARQ if published operating guidance matters more
LARQ provides more detail on PureVis 2’s cycle options, doses, and bottle care. That documentation may make it easier to choose a mode and understand upkeep, but it does not prove the bottle outperforms Sans in a like-for-like test.
Why the UV-C percentages do not settle the comparison
Sans’s 99.9% claim concerns E. coli and Staphylococcus during a three-minute cycle. LARQ’s 99.8% figure concerns E. coli during a 20-second cycle. The organisms and cycle conditions differ, and the reviewed material does not provide a shared test protocol. A reader cannot infer from these numbers that one bottle is more effective or faster in equivalent use.

LARQ says its PureVis technology uses UV-C at 270–275 nm. Its PureVis 2 support guidance, updated May 23, 2025, describes a 10-second automatic maintenance cycle every two hours, a one-minute Normal Mode with a stated 12 mJ/cm² dose, and a three-minute Adventure Mode with a stated dose above 30 mJ/cm². Those details apply to PureVis 2; do not assume the same controls or doses on older models. See LARQ’s mode guide and PureVis technology information.
Does a self-cleaning water bottle still need to be washed?
Yes. UV-C self-cleaning is not a substitute for washing away residue. LARQ recommends occasional hand-washing with warm, soapy water. It advises against using the PureVis bottle for coffee, tea, milk, or sugary drinks because they can stain the interior and reduce UV-C effectiveness by interfering with light reflecting off the walls. If residue gets inside, scrub it promptly. Read LARQ’s cleaning instructions.

LARQ also says its UV-C LED is rated for more than 100,000 cycles and that a sensor shuts the light off if the cap is removed during a cleaning cycle. These are manufacturer statements, not independently verified comparative findings. The details are in its UV-C LED and safety guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do UV-C bottles filter chemicals or sediment?
No. UV-C treatment and physical filtration do different jobs. LARQ describes UV-C as acting on biological contaminants; it does not remove visible sediment. A suitable physical filter is needed for substances such as chlorine, lead, heavy metals, mercury, cadmium, and particulates. LARQ outlines the distinction in its comparison of the Filtered Flip Top and PureVis. If your concern is a chemical contaminant or particles in the water, choose a filter designed to address that contaminant rather than relying on UV-C alone.
