Two lower-priced laptops in Consumer Reports’ 2026 Buying Guide receive higher performance category ratings than its $750 Galaxy Book4 Edge entry: the Acer Swift 16 AI SF16-51T-76TG and Dell Inspiron Plus 16 i7640-7059BLU-PUS. That makes them promising alternatives, not proven faster in every task. The ratings are not head-to-head benchmark results, and the Galaxy Book4 Edge name covers different processors and configurations.
What “more powerful” means in this comparison
The Galaxy Book4 Edge is a family, not one fixed laptop. Samsung’s 2024 announcement describes a 15.6-inch model with an eight-core Snapdragon X Plus; Samsung US currently lists a 15.6-inch configuration with Snapdragon X X1-26-100, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB eUFS storage; and PCWorld reviewed a 16-inch model with the higher-tier Snapdragon X Elite X1E-84-100. A rating comparison against the X Plus entry should not be read as proof that a laptop beats the X Elite model in every workload.
Consumer Reports’ 2026 Buying Guide gives each laptop a performance category rating. It lists the X Plus Galaxy Book4 Edge at 30, the Acer Swift 16 AI at 40, and several other candidates at 50. These scores are useful for screening options within that guide, but they do not specify a benchmark, translate into a speed multiplier, or establish which machine is faster at a particular task.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPrices below are the guide’s listed figures, not live quotes. Samsung US lists its 15.6-inch Snapdragon X configuration at $999.99, while Consumer Reports gives its Edge entry a $750 guide price; neither figure should be treated as a universal market price.

The two clearest lower-priced alternatives
| Laptop and cited configuration | Guide price | Performance rating | What the comparison supports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acer Swift 16 AI SF16-51T-76TG, Core Ultra 7 | $850 | 40 | Higher category rating than the guide’s Galaxy Book4 Edge X Plus entry (30); not a direct benchmark result. |
| Dell Inspiron Plus 16 i7640-7059BLU-PUS, Core Ultra 7, 32 GB | $800 | 50 | Higher category rating than the guide’s Galaxy Book4 Edge X Plus entry (30); not a direct benchmark result. |
Both candidates are relatively close to the Edge’s $750 guide price. The Dell has the stronger category rating of the two in this table and a stated 32 GB of memory. The guide does not provide enough detail here to conclude that either will outperform a particular Edge configuration in a named CPU, graphics, or sustained-workload test. Check the exact retailer SKU, memory, storage, display and current price before buying.
Three more candidates—and why they are weaker fits for “budget”
| Laptop and cited configuration | Guide price | Performance rating | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP OMEN 16.1-inch, Intel Core i7 | $1,350 | 50 | Higher-rated candidate, but substantially above the Edge guide price. Confirm the exact GPU and configuration before judging gaming or graphics performance. |
| ASUS Vivobook S 15, Snapdragon X Elite | $1,300 | 50 | Same broad processor platform as some Galaxy Book4 Edge models, but not a budget-priced alternative at this guide figure. |
| Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 2 21MA0006US, Core Ultra 7 | $1,090 | 50 | Business-oriented option in the table; the cited comparison does not establish a higher performance rating than the Edge entry. |
The HP and ASUS qualify as higher-rated possibilities in the guide, but their listed prices make them difficult to call budget alternatives to a $750 Edge entry. The Lenovo may suit someone prioritizing a business laptop, yet its rating does not support claiming a performance-rating advantage over the Edge. Treat all three as candidates to investigate, not as verified faster replacements.

How to choose for your workload
Everyday multitasking and general work
Start with the exact configuration and memory you need. The Dell entry specifies 32 GB; the other table rows do not establish comparable RAM or storage details in the cited material. A higher category rating alone cannot tell you how a machine will behave with your browser tabs, office applications, video calls or other daily workload.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Gaming, graphics and creative applications
Do not infer gaming performance from the HP OMEN name or its rating. The cited table does not establish its exact graphics hardware, and it does not provide workload-specific results for these laptops. Verify the full SKU and GPU, then seek results for the games or creative applications you actually use.

Windows app and peripheral compatibility
Galaxy Book4 Edge models with Snapdragon processors run Windows on Arm. PCWorld reports that most applications run well, but some may not run or may perform poorly. Before choosing an Arm-based model, check that essential software and peripherals work on the exact configuration; this matters especially for specialized business tools, drivers and older applications.
What to verify before you buy
- Match the model number. Confirm the exact laptop SKU and processor on the retailer listing; product families can include materially different configurations.
- Compare the Edge you mean. Identify whether you are comparing against the 15.6-inch X Plus, the currently listed 15.6-inch X1-26-100 configuration, or a 16-inch X Elite model.
- Check memory and storage. Confirm RAM capacity, storage type and capacity, and whether the configuration can be upgraded. The guide’s headline comparisons do not settle every configuration detail.
- Find workload-specific evidence. Look for tests of the applications or games you use rather than treating a broad category rating as a benchmark.
- Check display, battery and weight. The 15.6-inch Edge announcement specifies 1920 × 1080 resolution, 300 nits and 60 Hz, but that does not establish how it compares with every candidate’s display or battery life.
- Recheck the local price. Guide prices and Samsung’s US listing are different kinds of figures and may not match current retailer pricing in your market.
Bottom line on the five-laptop shortlist
The Acer Swift 16 AI and Dell Inspiron Plus 16 are the most defensible budget-oriented picks against the Galaxy Book4 Edge X Plus entry in this comparison: both have higher Consumer Reports performance ratings, with guide prices of $850 and $800 respectively. The HP OMEN and ASUS Vivobook also rate higher in the table but cost more; the ThinkPad is a business alternative, not a demonstrated performance-rating upgrade. None is proven by these figures to be faster than every Galaxy Book4 Edge configuration in every workload.
