A useful laptop bag is built around your device and your work routine—not a universal checklist. Start with a correctly sized, padded laptop compartment, then add only the charger, cables, and accessories you need away from your desk. For longer work sessions, an external keyboard and mouse plus a laptop riser or monitor can help support a more neutral posture.
Choose a bag that fits and protects your laptop
Before choosing a style or adding accessories, check the fit of the laptop compartment against your specific device. ASUS recommends a dedicated, well-padded compartment, a snug fit that prevents excessive movement, and padding at the bottom of the bag. A compartment that fits the laptop’s screen size on paper may still be too tight or loose in practice, so check the device dimensions and the bag’s stated compartment dimensions.
A laptop bag with a dedicated compartment keeps the computer separated from other contents; inspect the bottom padding as carefully as the sides. A padded laptop backpack is one option, but the best format depends on how much gear you carry and how you travel.

Pack only the accessories your routine needs
Charger and cables
Bring the charger and cables required for the devices you expect to use. A compact multi-port charger can reduce bulk, but check its wattage, ports, and compatibility with every device it will charge before relying on it. Keep small tech together
A tech organizer pouch can keep cables, adapters, earbuds, and other small accessories together instead of loose in the bag. The right pouch is one that holds the small items you actually use without adding unnecessary bulk.
Consider how you work away from a desk

Make longer laptop sessions more ergonomic
Working on a laptop for extended periods can make it harder to maintain a neutral upright posture. Stanford University IT relays this recommendation from Stanford Environmental Health & Safety Ergonomics: “When telecommuting, Stanford Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Ergonomics recommends use of an external keyboard, external mouse, and either an external monitor or a laptop riser to help maintain neutral upright postures.”
For mobile work, that means a riser or stand may be useful when paired with an external keyboard and mouse; a monitor is another option where your setup allows it. These items take space and add carrying weight, so weigh their potential usefulness against how often you work in one place for long sessions.

Check the load before you leave
