Start with the devices, not the brand name or the screen-size number on a product title. Measure your laptop and iPad before ordering
Screen diagonal is only a shorthand. Use a ruler or the manufacturer’s technical drawing and record the outside dimensions of the complete setup you will place in the bag.
- Measure width, depth, and thickness. Close the laptop and measure its widest and deepest points, including feet or a permanently attached shell. Measure thickness at the thickest point.
- Measure the iPad in its daily configuration. Include a folio, rugged case, keyboard, or Apple Pencil holder. A tablet that fits without accessories may not fit once a keyboard is attached.
- Compare all three dimensions with the backpack’s maximums. For example, the EVERKI specification gives separate limits for both devices, so compare your measured setup against 15.4 × 10.8 × 1 inch for the laptop and 12 × 8.4 × 0.6 inch for the tablet rather than relying only on the 16-inch and 13.3-inch labels.
- Leave practical clearance. Do not force a device into a sleeve that is exactly the same size. Allow room for the fabric to close without bending a connector or pressing against a zipper. If the manufacturer does not state internal measurements, ask for them or choose a model with a published maximum.
- Check the opening direction. A top-loading sleeve may fit on paper but be inconvenient when the backpack is under an airplane seat. Confirm whether the laptop and tablet can be removed independently.
For iPads with Magic Keyboard, the Trigo specification is unusually explicit: it lists tablets up to 13 × 8.75 inches, including iPads with that keyboard. That is still a maximum claim, so compare your own measured combination.

Floating and suspended sleeves
EVERKI describes a floating, felt-lined laptop sleeve. “Floating” generally means the sleeve is raised away from the bottom panel, so a direct contact with the ground is less likely to transfer straight to the computer. Samsonite describes a laptop hammock suspension system, which uses the same broad idea of separating the laptop compartment from the base. These are manufacturer descriptions of construction; they are not equivalent to a published impact rating.
Foam reinforcement and raised sleeves
WaterField describes a foam-reinforced bottom and sleeves sewn above the ground. Those details address base contact and cushioning around the device. They do not tell you how the bag performs in a fall, how much foam is used, or whether protection is continuous around every edge.
Felt, tricot, and padded walls
Soft linings such as EVERKI’s felt and Samsonite’s tricot-lined tablet sleeve can reduce rubbing against the bag interior. A padded pocket keeps a device from sharing an unprotected compartment with chargers and keys. Padding is most useful when the pocket is sized correctly; excess space allows movement, while an over-tight pocket can stress the screen or ports.

What the specifications do not establish
None of the cited pages supplies a common independent drop test, crush test, abrasion test, or long-term durability comparison. Do not translate one company’s “protective” wording into a claim that it is safer than another company’s design. If impact protection is critical, use a rigid device case in addition to the backpack’s sleeve and carry the bag so it is not thrown or checked unnecessarily.

Capacity numbers are useful only when considered alongside the shape of the compartments. A large headline volume can include space that is difficult to access, while a smaller bag with a flat opening may use every litre efficiently.

EVERKI’s volume expands from 32L to 38L, making it the most travel-oriented example in this set. NOMATIC lists two base sizes and describes 20% expansion, which can help when a commute becomes an overnight trip. Samsonite lists 23L. Pacsafe’s stated 12L is a different category: it is compact and tablet-focused, not a like-for-like replacement for a large laptop-and-travel pack.

EVERKI ONE: largest fit range and travel features
Choose the ONE when your priority is accommodating a large laptop and a comparatively large tablet while retaining room for travel items. Its published maximum dimensions are more useful than the screen-size labels because they let you compare a cased device directly. The expandable 32–38L design favors travelers and people who carry clothing or bulky accessories. That volume can be excessive for a minimalist commute, so check the packed size and harness comfort for your body before relying on it every day. “Water-repellent” fabric and a rain cover should be treated as protection against wet conditions, not a guarantee of a waterproof seal.

NOMATIC’s distinction is the choice between a version listed for a 16-inch laptop and a smaller version listed for a 15-inch laptop, with a tablet sleeve in each. Measure your computer carefully before selecting between the two sizes. A 15-inch screen does not guarantee that every 15-inch chassis fits the smaller model, and a laptop plus a thick case may require the larger option. Use the tablet sleeve for the iPad rather than stacking it against the laptop or charger.
WaterField Designs Trigo: explicit tablet-and-keyboard fit
Trigo is the most explicit option for an iPad used with a Magic Keyboard because its specification includes that configuration. Its listed laptop and tablet maximum dimensions allow a direct measurement check. This is a slim, premium-oriented design rather than a high-volume travel hauler. It makes sense when you carry two devices and essentials but do not need clothing or large peripherals. Confirm the exact thickness of your laptop and keyboard-equipped iPad, since the published limits are maximum external dimensions.
Samsonite Novex: suspended laptop protection and organization
Novex combines a padded compartment for laptops up to 15.6 inches with a separate tricot-lined tablet sleeve. Its hammock suspension system is intended to keep the laptop away from the base, a useful feature when you set the backpack down. The listed limited three-year global warranty is a concrete after-sale distinction, but warranty coverage depends on the applicable terms and region. Read those terms before purchase and keep proof of purchase. As with every model here, the 15.6-inch label is not a substitute for checking your laptop’s width, depth, and thickness.
Pacsafe V 12L: compact and security-focused

ECO STYLE Jet Set 16-inch: verify the retailer listing
Dell’s accessible listing text says the bag supports laptops up to 16 inches and has a dedicated iPad/tablet compartment. The available evidence does not provide the capacity, construction, sleeve dimensions, weather treatment, or warranty details. Because the listing could not be opened for full specifications, treat this as a lead to verify, not a fully documented recommendation.
Before buying, obtain the exact internal laptop and tablet measurements, confirm whether the compartment is padded and separate, and check the current retailer price, stock, return policy, and warranty.

Water-repellent, water-resistant, and waterproof are not interchangeable. EVERKI describes water-repellent outer fabric and supplies a rain cover. Pacsafe describes water-repellent fabric. WaterField calls out water-resistant textile and zippers. Those claims suggest resistance to light rain or splashes under stated conditions; they do not establish a waterproof rating, sealed seams, or safe submersion.
Use a rain cover when supplied, keep zippers closed, and place irreplaceable data in a separate protective sleeve. If you regularly cycle in heavy rain, look for a published waterproof rating and seam construction rather than inferring performance from the word “resistant.”

Organization and access features to inspect
A separate tablet pocket prevents the iPad from rubbing directly against a laptop and reduces the chance that a charger or pen will strike a screen. It is most useful when the pocket is padded, closes securely, and can be reached without emptying the main compartment.

Check whether the laptop and tablet sleeves are back-panel or front-panel accessed, whether the openings are wide enough for your cased devices, and whether the bag stands upright when loaded.
